Here We Go Giants

Recommended Posts

Well my favorite baseball team just clinched the West Division. I am so happy. Hopefully they can keep the momentum going. I definately think that the Giants can win the whole thing. Jason Schmidt is the best starter in the National League. Ponson was the ace of the Orioles, and now he is a very solid second starter. Also throw in Reuter, who is very capable of going 7 - 8 innings. And of course, you have Barry Bonds, who is the most dangerous batter in the game.

I just hope that they don't get too complacent and go into the playoffs cold. I also am concerned about Worrell, who has blown a few games. But overall, the Giants are on a roll, and I can't wait for the Post Season.

The Giants have a problem in the postseason though. What are they going to do when Bonds is pitched AROUND in every at bat. The Giants without bonds are not even a wildcard team, and they have shown it over and over in his absence. Unless Bonds is up early in the game with NO baserunners, he is gonna be walked every time.

I hope the Yanks or Giants win the World Series this year.

Ya know, just to piss people off.

Anyways, I'm ecstatic that the Giants clinched the division. The only thing that could've made it better was winning it in LA.

^Jayson Stark wrote in his column a few week back, about how abyssmal the Giants are when Bonds is intentionally walked.

I like the Giants chances, but after seeing the numbers not has much anymore.

Speaking of the Giants:

Fan dies after fall from right-field wall

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)— A fan fell to his death at Pacific Bell Park on Wednesday night, shortly before the San Francisco Giants clinched the NL West title.

According to witnesses, the man attempted to climb down the outside of the right-field wall onto the walkway 24 feet below to retrieve something he dropped during the eighth inning.

He slipped and fell onto the field-level walkway between the fence and McCovey Cove, according to Giants vice president of communications Staci Slaughter.

Police and paramedics responded to the scene, but the fan, whose identity was not revealed, died from his injuries, Slaughter said. San Francisco police didn't immediately return phone calls seeking comment.

"As far as we're concerned, it was an accident," Slaughter said. "It's just a tragedy."

It's the first death at Pacific Bell Park since it opened in 2000. The right-field wall borders McCovey Cove, where long homers land in the water.

The Giants and their fans were unaware of the accident as they celebrated their division title moments later.

NOTE: It's not a "tragedy," it's Darwinism...

Glad someone mentioned the dying fan. I agree it's Darwinism, but hopefully it's a sign of the Giants taking a massive fall in the post season. Hey a guy can dream.

It depends. If the Marlins win the Wild Card, then I become the Giants biggest fan. If the Phillies win, then I hate the Giants.

Why hate the Marlins just because your team has been underachieving all year? :P

Underachieving? The Phillies are on pace for 88 wins, their highest total since '93. I consider this season a step forward, even if we miss the playoffs.

As for the Marlins, they're just a dull team.

There's no doubt it's a step forward for the Phils, playoffs or not. But this is a team that was supposed to challenge the Braves for the division title, not scratch and claw with the Marlins for the friggin' wild card. Seems to me that they've underachieved a bit.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just a little peeved that their not winning the division (along with the Mariners' fall from grace) is going to cost me in the office pool this time around.

kinda pisses me off that a team could make it in at 88 wins...when the reads won 96 and missed the playoffs...

Well, if the Reds had taken care of business against the BREWERS instead of losing 2 of 3 at the end, then maybe you wouldn't have to be suffering! ;)

Well, if I had to guess, I would guess they would have the people batting behind Bonds get hits to drive in runs and win games. You know, kinda like they did last year when everybody pitched around Bonds and they STILL got to the World Series and, in fact, came one bullpen meltdown away from winning said series.

Remember the MVP of the 2002 NLCS wasn't Bonds, it was Santiago. You know, the guy who kept getting RBI hits right after the Cardinals walked Bonds to pitch to him.

The Marlins are NOT a dull team. They have two of the premier on base percentage men on top of the lineup, Pudge, Conine, Lowell, and two of the most electrifying pitchers in the NL. They are fun to watch on TV because something is always going on. That's just ca-razy.
