Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 This week's edition of Raw did a 3.6 cable rating, with a 5 share, according to Nielsen Media Research. That is down a tenth of a point from last week. The show did hours of 3.4 and 3.8. While the company often gets a ratings boost on the show after the PPV, last night was the first evening of new programming on the major networks and that appeared to hurt Raw's number. It's interesting to note that the highest rated quarter hour of the show was the 10:00 to 10:15 segment, which featured the women's match and a recap of the Scott Steiner-Test angle. It did a 4.1 rating, After that, the show dropped to a 3.8, 3.7 and 3.5 before the overrun did a 3.8. No matter how you spin it, those are not good numbers. credit: 1wrestling.com
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted September 23, 2003 I didn't watch RAW but from what I've seen the last year or so I suspect that the women's match probably deserved to be the highest rated segment.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted September 23, 2003 I'm digging some of the shit that the women are doing right now actually. Especially the double team moves by the duo of Molly Holly & Gail Kim. The double powerbomb was cool to see. The double DDT has looked good each time they have done it. Hell, I was really impressed when they did the corner move to Trish. Molly pulled Trish out of the corner by her feet, and her back landed across Gail Kim's knee. That was neat. I like how Trish continues to improve and expand her moveset. A couple weeks back she started doing the "matrix." It was cool when she started doing it, but I thought that it would get bland very quickly like the "Stratusphere" headscissor has. Well, last night on Raw, she used the matrix again, then went into a headscissor takeover out of it. That really impressed me. Not because of the move itself, but because Trish improved on one of her moves. I can understand why the interest might be growing. Besides, Lita has a lot of fans. We can't deny that. Trish does too. That's why Lita has a book and Trish has a DVD. Gail Kim was green as Kermit the frog there for awhile. She still is, but she's growing into her own now. I'm sure a lot of that is because of good ol' Fit Finlay. I think you have to give some of the credit to Molly though. She has definitely taken some of the pressure off of Gail. Working tag matches will help her grow into her own and adjust to the crowds, etc. better. I hope they keep it up.

Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 Women's match was MOTN by a longshot IMO. Maybe some people switched over during half time for that segment?
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 I'm glad they were the highest rated part of RAW. It was my favorite match of the night.
Guest thrall585 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 Evolution vs jobber, jobber, and Maven (who is a jobber basically too) is not a good idea to get ratings.

slimm44 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 I suspect the ratings will still drop because of Triple H's absence. Just a theory
Guest thrall585 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 They didn't make the main event interesting. Are we supposed to buy that Bischoff being the outside ref in the match will give Jericho the advantage against Goldberg? lol

Maybe they should move the rest of the guys into the women's division and away from Triple-H and Goldberg? Goldberg isn't drawing....they'll blame Jericho. Oh no, I can assure you that the guy backstage who would normally be in Vince's ear blaming Jericho for a bad overrun will now be insisting that this rating is all about Goldberg and shows that he's just not over enough to be RAW champ. cawthon777 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 They will continue to drop until the WWE gets a freaking clue and adds some 'entertainment' to whatever it is they air each Monday and Thursday night. For a while now, Raw has reminded me of Nitro in its dying days - but even Nitro had segments I wouldn't miss (the cruiserweights for one). While the drawing power was minimal during the last few months of WCW's existance, at least the company seemed to have some direction to it. Raw doesn't even have that. Okay, so Goldberg is the new champion - but who is there to challenge and to have credibility as a challenger? The only one is Kane. If they put the belt back on Triple H (and I fear they might), it will be a lethal blow just like when Hogan got the WCW strap back in 98. It's odd that the women's match got the highest rating last night because it was immediately after that segment that I turned off my TV and went to bed. And I almost never miss Raw / Smackdown - even when they are shit. That backstage segment with Austin, Jericho, and Christian disgusted me - not for the wrestlers themselves but because I could hear the director giving orders. C'mon, guys. What is this, the WCW crew????

If Triple H somehow manages to survive his honeymoon he'll definitely be getting his belt back. Or the one on SmackDown. Maybe both.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 I hate to say it, but for someone who's been out for over a year Lita looked really good in the ring last night. The ground style is much better for her.

The ground style is much better for her. Oh, for sure. Her moonsault is slop city. She needs to stay as far away from hurricanranas, headscissor takeovers and moonsaults as she can. Not just for her safety either. She can use powerbombs and neckbreakers all day, but don't let her fly.

If you are talking about the fingerpoke of doom, that was 99. I'm talking 98 where he beat Savage. Hogan was world champ for over a year ... lost it for 5 days to Luger ... then Sting FINALLY beats him right when the wrestling world was about to revolt Hogan's boring and long-ass reign. Then 4 months later he's champion again. That Nitro was the day WCW slowly began its downfall.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 Maybe Goldust will get those breast implants after all. I really have nothing to say, guess, speculate on. Just that I'm really shocked. It outdrew the Goldberg match! HA! "No matter how you spin it, those are not good numbers." Like anyone gives a shit about the ratings for one week. Besides, the makers of most shows would kill for ratings in the high 3's.
Detective Comics 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2003 I thought the women's match was the MOTN.... it kept my interest throughout the whole thing. And it was pretty long for a TV match.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted September 23, 2003 Christian -Vs- Rob Van Dam was starting to catch my attention until the bullshit DQ finish came out of nowhere. That being said, the women's match was probably my MotN as well. I didn't dislike Evolution against Vanilla Trio though...
Guest deadbeater Report post Posted September 23, 2003 It certainly didn't help that "Camera 6--worse case scenario" was dubbed over what Trish and Lita were saying during their WALKING! segment (a borrowing from Chris Robin Zimmerman). I mean Trish was talking to a wrestler for the first time since she talked to Vitamin C, and Lita was talking for the firth time (sorry) since her getting 'fired', and they do that to them, admittedly the most over Divas? All the Divas should be pissed.

SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 I'm getting a little sick of how everytime there is a womens match, half the people say "It sucked, they botched all their spots" while the other half go "It was the best part of the night." It's almost as if people are watching two different matches. Frankly, I tend to agree with the Best Part of Night argument half the time, the only really bad womens match I've seen in a long time was Shaniqua vs Dawn Marie.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted September 24, 2003 Right, but the women of Smackdown aren't perceived as wrestlers. They are just eye candy that occasionally step into the ring. Shaniqua is going to be the overbearing woman on Smackdown. The women of Raw are hit or miss. Sometimes they are too obvious with what is coming up. Gail Kim definitely falls into that category. I wouldn't say that the Raw women pull out **** wrestling clinics, I was just making note that at least they are growing and developing. That's more than you can say for most of the male Raw roster members.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 That's true. I was mostly commenting on what people say in general. It's always that way after a Women's match. I agree about Gail Kim too. She got called up too early but she does have a hell of a lot of potential, I just wish they hadn't billed her as a "female Rey Mysterio" because that made me excited for her debut. And you're right about them developing. Most of the male stars are degressing as workers. RVD, Christian, Hurricane, Lance Storm, and even Jericho used to have much better matches. That's because WWE action is in slow motion mode with alot of headlocks and rest holds plus nobody can use more than 4 moves.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted September 24, 2003 The "WWE Style" has been the death of a lot of wrestling workrate. Also, you should be weary of using the word "potential" around these parts. It's like saying "Ni" to old women in random villages....
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 Yeah, I doubted whether or not I should really say that Gail Kim has potential , but I honestly believe she does. Mark Jindrak... well... he HAD potential, but I've lost faith in him. Sean O'Haire... he's a cool guy and all, but my faith in him has slipped as well. Randy Orton.... I agree.... he COULD be good. The RNN segments showed he could be used effectively.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 Hey at this point I am begging for the 5 Moves of Doom but all I see is 3 moves of boredom and maybe 5 minutes of the champions fighting counters to their finishers. BORING
