Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 About the Rush thing here... I would've thought that being a member of the media that he would've known that as soon as you play the race card in ANYTHING, you will immediately be scrutinized as a racist, regardless of whether you are right or wrong. Rush should've been smarter about this. If he didn't like McNabb as a quarterback, he should have just let McNabb's suspect numbers do the talking instead of bringing up the race card. While I do think that Rush had a bit of a point, he was stupid in bringing up race when talking about football. Just stupid on his part. BTW, when ESPN was showing the replay of what Rush said, I was intrigued by the editing job. See, I saw the show live when Rush said it and Michael Irvin was audibly saying how he thought Rush had a point in between Jackson and Rush's arguments. They completely edited out Irvin's reactions and only cut to Jackson and Young's rebuttal's against Rush. When Rush said what he said, it registered as a blip on my radar that this is kind of out there for some football talk, but I didn't think anymore of it until it was all brought to a head yesterday by the McNabb press conference. End game.

End game. Cause if Michael Irvin agrees with you, you must have a point. All in all, I don't think he should have been fired...er...voluntarily resigned for the best intrest of the show, but what he said was COMPLETELY wrong with no way to actually argue that he had merit to it, seeing as there are way too many points to show that it's a FACT that bad QB's are shown as such and good QBs are called such. I can safely say that QB's are judge on their merit and not on race in this league. And DA, how are those numbers SUSPECT. They are better than what Elway had in his first 5 seasons...Lets not act like he wasn't getting the love...
Guest Goodear Report post Posted October 2, 2003 I still contend that Donovan has been knocked completely off kilter by the injury he suffered last year. Looking at his last five games (including playoff games against Atlanta and Tampa Bay)... CMP ATP YDS YPG TD INT 101 190 996 199 1 4 McNabb has basically been responsible for 1 Touchdown in 5 games (he didn't have any rushing scores in the same time period)... and thats simply odd considering his success prior to the injury. Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 I meant suspect numbers from this season. I never said anything about his ENTIRE CAREER being suspect. All I was pointing out was that Irvin said 3 or 4 times that he thought Rush had a point while Young and Jackson rebutted and ESPN edited his reactions out, making it seem that none of the other announcers agreed with Rush. I bet now Irvin wishes he didn't do that, but with the magic of editing, he didn't.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 It doesn't matter with Irvin though. Excusing Terrell Owens' antics, because it wasn't the QB or head coach, showed how much his opinion is worth.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 My point for bringing it up isn't that Irvin's opinion has validity, but that ESPN edited out his reactions in an attempt to say that all their announcers were against Rush from the get go. Nothing more.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 I get what you are saying. I just like any chance I can to take a shot at Irvin. Didn't they also get rid of Young saying that Koy Detmer would be better at running the offense in replayed clips?
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 Yes, they did get rid of Young talking about Detmer as well. I wonder if the NFL Countdown guys will address the situation on sunday or if they'll dance around it. My money has them dancing.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 After hearing the statements made by Berman and ESPN, I think a half assed statement is made at the beginning of the show and that's it. I am more interested to see what FOX and CBS do.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 In reality, ESPN should've known what they were getting into when they hired Limbaugh. If you think he's just randomly being scapegoated and called a racist unfairly, perhaps you should listen to his radio show once in a while. Hint: it's not just a label. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 BTW, when ESPN was showing the replay of what Rush said, I was intrigued by the editing job. They edited that out?! When I first heard the exchange on Sunday I shook my head and thought ESPN will get a few e-mails from Rush-haters, but I didn't think THIS would happen. Like BPS said above, I took more offense at Rush saying the Pats losing Milloy (sp?) was no big deal...
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 2, 2003 In reality, ESPN should've known what they were getting into when they hired Limbaugh. They knew, that's why they hired him. You don't think they hired him because they thought he'd be a good boy do you? They were probably just hoping he didn't go too far.

I wonder if the NFL Countdown guys will address the situation on sunday or if they'll dance around it. My money has them dancing. I doubt they even mention it, there's no need for them too. They are there to talk football, not discuss none football related stories. ESPN will address it enough before Sunday gets here.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 In reality, ESPN should've known what they were getting into when they hired Limbaugh. They knew, that's why they hired him. You don't think they hired him because they thought he'd be a good boy do you? They were probably just hoping he didn't go too far. Of course they knew. It was a ratings ploy from the start; it's not as if they could've given a blind eye to the entire thing and stick their fingers in their ears when groups like the NAACP and FAIR blasted ESPN for their hiring of Limbaugh. But, of course, Rush wasn't going to let the season go by without this sort of thign happening, and with their increased ratings due to Rush, people were actually watching when it happened. Good riddance.

kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 (edited) I think for about a year, but apparently he gains weight whenever he gets canned. Been a lot longer than one year. Oh, and this is out of control -- now Democrat presidential candidates are using this for political gain? "Earlier Wednesday, Democratic presidential candidates Wesley Clark, Howard Dean and Rev. Al Sharpton called for the cable sports network to fire Limbaugh." http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/s...rts/6911611.htm And Sharpton wanted to boycott ABC if Rush wasn't fired? http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,1261...5,00.html?tnews Hey Al, go find another black chick who claims a bunch of cops pooed on her... Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2003 You guys are right about the media giving a blowjob for anyone who is black. That's the only reason that they're praised. In fact, the worst case of all is this guy who has the biggest mouth, talks a lot of shit, and can NOT back it up on the field. He's extremely offensive, and simply put he's an ass. He was called the prototypical football player BEFORE HE PLAYED A FUCKING DOWN! He can't perform when it counts, has other guys whom are better than him at the position yet get no praise simply due to the fact that they're of different skin colour, or simply because they're not as LOUD~! as he is. Yeah, I would say that JEREMY SHOCKEY only gets all this hype due to his skin colour, and that if TONY MOTHERFUCKING GONZALEZ was white that he would be the fucking man at tight end. I mean really. I'm just playing devil's advocate here, I love Shockey AND his antics. But in no way does he deserve the press for what he does. No chance. I personally believe that it's because he's an ass, and that he has a big fucking mouth. Hopefully that shatters the myth for all you insecure white people now. Of course, those quarterbacks only get that airtime because they're black. It has nothing to do with the fact that they're exciting, and that at the times of their media hoopla they had the most potential surrounding their future. I mean really, a quarterback is bigger than the opposing linebacker and can hang with a few running backs and BEAT most tight ends in a foot race, and you think Daunte gets the praise because he's black? Nigga please.
Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted October 3, 2003 Greatest QB's of the past 20 years Montanna - White Favre - White Aikman - White Young - White Marino - White Elway - White Rush brought up something really interesting with his comments. The media would most definitely want a black QB to rise up to the level of the above 6 men. I'm sorry, but Cunningham and Moon just don't belong in the same company as the above men. The media wants to advance a pro-minority stance and thus wants a truly legendary black QB to prove once and for all that QB isn't just a white man's position. As for the NFL, they see McNabb as $$$. If he can rise up to the EVENTUAL level of the above 6 men, then they can market McNabb to a wider base. And really, don't we ALL wanna see a black QB become a football legend? Its all something to THINK about. Something the hate-filled lynch mobs in the media never even stopped to do. Heh, although Rush has bigger problems to worry about after what has gone on today........
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2003 "I'm sorry, but Cunningham and Moon just don't belong in the same company as the above men" Who is God's name ever said Randall Cunningham should be in a group of legends? I will reiterate. I won't dispute the fact that the media probably wouldn't mind having a black QB become great. But the media is not giving out undue acclaim to any black QBs just to make it happen. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2003 Side note: Back a few years ago I was watching this NCAA Final Four game, and at halftime Leslie Visser was interviewing one of the coaches of the teams that made it that far (I'm pretty sure it was Oklahoma, but don't quote me on it). Midway through the interview Visser said that since this guy was a Native American *I started to cringe because I knew what was coming next* she wanted to know how he felt representing his race. I screamed and turned off the TV. Since OK didn't win the NCAA tourney that year, I'm sure this coach felt he let "his people" down. It could have been worse -- at least Visser wasn't on an NFL sideline. -- kkk, who's still waiting for more of "my people" to break down that glass ceiling others may know as talent and play starting cornerback for more NFL teams...
