Mik 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 Just got back from rocking out with Jack Black...absolutely LOVED the movie. Any one else see it, any thoughts? Jack carried this movie on his back, he was on screen 100% of the time, just about. Awesome awesome movie, and the kids rocked out.

Guest hhheld_down Report post Posted October 4, 2003 well i havent seen in yet but my jaw dropped when I read Roger Ebert's four star review of it. I definetly want to see this now. I was going to skip it but since its supposedly soo good despite looking relatively MEH, I must see it.
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 Actually Ebert gave it ***1/2, but still loved it. As did- NY Times, New York Magazine, USA Today, Time, Newsweek, MSNBC, EW and me (I saw it last week during the sneak preview) Go see it, Jack Black > The Rock For me this weekend is about "Lost in Translation" and "Thirteen" And then next week...KILL BILL
A Happy Medium 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 I saw twenty minutes of it. Loved it. Long story on why I only saw twenty minutes of it. Doesn't matter tho, since I'm going to go catch it for real tomorrow prolly. Oh and see Thirteen. It's pretty fucking good. It's like Kids but with much more taste and heart...and has more of a story than "kids get drunk and high, fuck, and then get aids".
Aero 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 I'm seeing it later tonight... can't wait.

Aero 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 I just got back from seeing it... definitely a great movie worth the price. I wouldn't say Jack Black carried the movie on his OWN, because I loved the roles of Joan Cusack and some of the kids and their different personalities. Thoughts on the ending... Spoiler (Highlight to Read): IMO, they would've won Battle of the Bands had they played the first song Black had written and sung to the class... the one about being kicked out of the band and the legend of the hardcore rent (I believe it went). That was one of my favorite parts, watching him perform that song to the class. On a side note, at the end, when he successfully stage-dived, a few people in the audience started clapping like it was some epic moment... no one else did. I found it to be pretty funny. Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 The film has scored a 94% fresh rating on the Tomato-meter at Rotten Tomatoes.
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 I predict a Golden Globe nomination for Black, and a possible Oscar nomination for the song.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 All I can say is that Jack Black has ARRIVED, tender comrades. That movie was the shit, and I LOVED his "shoot," if you wanna call it, on "The Man." That alone is worth the price of admission. That and all the songs kicked ass. The Math Song is a thing of beauty.
art_vandelay 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 As I sat there in the theatre watching their performance at Battle of the Bands, I said to myself, "This is really great." I never say that while watching anything anymore. This movie is destined to become a classic. Then I went home, and the first thing I saw on my TV was Jack Black on SNL. When that was over I listened to my Tenacious D record. JB is becoming a superstar.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2003 School of Rock was awesome. Definitely a good flick for any occasion be it a date, hanging with friends, whatever. Just a great movie. Definitely better than the overrated Rundown.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2003 The movie was simple and simply awsome. I mean it wasn't complex, it didn't have that much depth, and it didn't even have very many strong characters. But for all that, it was great. It was great in that old school way, when you take one or two animated and charismatic characters and have them perform, tell jokes, and break into song. It's a Jack Black movie, and when Jack Black is being Jack Black (ie not Shallow Hal) he's really really good.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2003 Ebert gave that ***1/2 stars? Wow, and he even touts this as a family movie... http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert1/wkp-...-school03f.html
Guest HHH123007 Report post Posted October 6, 2003 Ebert gave that ***1/2 stars? Wow, and he even touts this as a family movie... It is... I believe someone was on drugs when they slapped this movie with a PG-13.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2003 Ebert gave that ***1/2 stars? Wow, and he even touts this as a family movie... It is... I believe someone was on drugs when they slapped this movie with a PG-13. Seriously. I don't think they say anything worse than "ass" and there's no nudity, violence, sex, or things like that. It was clean which really surprised me.
Mole 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2003 This movie was the funniest movie I have seen all year. Now that I think about it, the best movie I have seen all year. Jack Black defiently owned this movie.
