Slayer Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 SI on Campus had an article entitled "The Coolest Jobs in Sports," featuring people under 30 who have big jobs in sports. Two other notable names on the list included Theo Epstein and Tony Reali (StatBoy from PTI). I was surprised though when I came upon the IWC's favorite female in the article: In or out of character, Stephanie McMahon is one of the most powerful women in the sports-entertainment business. Whether developing storylines for World Wrestling Entertainment, serving as General Manager of Smackdown! or potentially running a company with more than $437 million in assets, this Boston University graduate will be in the public eye for a long time. DAILY HIGHLIGHT: "Getting crowd reaction. That's a definite high. The crowd used to chant 'Slut!' everytime I came out. I enjoyed that for awhile." TOUGHEST TASK: "Everyone knows my father, Vince McMahon, as a very gregarious larger-than-life kind of guy full of adrenaline. Keeping him under control is by far the biggest challenge of the day." YOU'RE MARRYING TRIPLE H LATER THIS YEAR, WHY NOT WED IN A WRESTLING RING? "Well, we've been almost married in the ring four times and it didn't work out. So I'd say a change of venue is in order." IS TRIPLE H THREE TIMES THE MAN? "Yes, and then some." CELEBRITY YOU'D LOVE TO GET IN THE RING? "That Greek woman running for governor in California [Arianna Huffington] who had the attitude in the debate with Arnold Schwarzenegger. She was such a b----. She had this holier-than-thou attitude that really annoyed me." CAREER ADVICE: "Learn as much about people as you possibly can before trying to start a career in the business. The business is all about psychology." The funniest thing to me was Steph chiding anyone about having an attitude, and before anyone talks about distinguishing her "character" from her real person, I believe that, like her father, they are one in the same. Also, curious of course that they don't note that while it's worth $437M today, that it was worth over twice as much in 2000, before the XFL and WCW acquisition and driving away fans in droves thereafter.
Guest Choken One Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 $437 mil? HHH is really the smartest man in the world after all.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 CELEBRITY YOU'D LOVE TO GET IN THE RING? Slayer Posted October 4, 2003 Author Report Posted October 4, 2003 $437 mil? HHH is really the smartest man in the world after all. If he was directly responsible for them losing money in the wake of agreeing to hump a dummy (no, not Steph) on national TV, then I'm not sure if that's exactly true. Though I do admit that's a lot of money..
Guest Fook Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 YOU'RE MARRYING TRIPLE H LATER THIS YEAR, WHY NOT WED IN A WRESTLING RING? "Well, we've been almost married in the ring four times and it didn't work out. So I'd say a change of venue is in order." Four times? I remember two weddings (Undertaker and Test) and a renewage of vows (HHH) involving Steph. What am I missing?

Well she did get beat up by Three Minute Warning during Billy and Chuck's commitment ceramony, but that wasn't her wedding.
AndrewTS Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 CAREER ADVICE: "Learn as much about people as you possibly can before trying to start a career in the business. The business is all about psychology." Translation: be born the child of a rich wrestling promotor.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 running a company with more than $437 million in assets Yeah, but you can't put HHH as a $200m asset on the balance sheet, Steph... Seriously, I agree its psychology based in terms of making an emotional connection with fans, but they haven't done that well for a good while now.
Highland Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 Heh, despite how she annoys me I must confess that she does have a cool job. How many people would refuse the opportunities she's been given if they were presented to us?
TheFranchise Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 or potentially running a company with more than $437 million in assets I swear that said ruining a company.
Guest deadbeater Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Stephanie has done a good job getting the fans to respond to her ideas, many good, some backfiring. But she is still under Vince, and he makes the final decisions.
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Steph is a fucking plague to wrestling.
Guest Redhawk Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 On a semi-related note (since she did mention Schwarzenegger)...I wonder if Arnold still has his "Undisputed Box-Office Champion of the World" title belt?
Guest Nanks Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 They may be somewhat regretting awarding him that one now that Rocky's a movie star
Guest deadbeater Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 I think Arnold lost it to either Harrison Ford or, believe it or not, Robin Williams.
Guest Redhawk Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 How about The Rock vs. Arnold at Survivor Series for the Box-Office belt? I'm sure Vince has thought of it...but then again, the way WWE forgets history, he might not remember awarding Arnold the belt.

During the Gay Rape trials Vince got worried that some might accuse him of beig gay, so he told that ref to accuse him of rape. Damn Vince REALLY IS a genius.

Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Wasn't the WWF worth around 1 billion a few years ago?
KTID Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 it was indeed! From over a billion to under half a billion in around two and a bit years! Absolutely amazing! Just goes to show what these geniuses can accomplish if they put their minds to it!
Slayer Posted October 5, 2003 Author Report Posted October 5, 2003 Wasn't the WWF worth around 1 billion a few years ago? Like I said earlier, the 'E' was worth nearly twice as much by the end of 2000 Then came the XFL Then came the WCW acquisition and Invasion debacle that chased away fans Then came the monopoly and the lackadaisical attitude towards the writing Hence why I found it funny when the article mentioned the value of the 'E' with the irony of the truth hidden to those who know
Guest IB2BLACK Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Vince was worth a billion dollars, but that was mostly on paper, and the fact that stock went public. Forbes, recently said he's worth $580 million.
haVoc Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 DAILY HIGHLIGHT: "Getting crowd reaction. That's a definite high. The crowd used to chant 'Slut!' everytime I came out. I enjoyed that for awhile." Yeah Steph, you love the spot light. Learn to share some of it now. TOUGHEST TASK: "Everyone knows my father, Vince McMahon, as a very gregarious larger-than-life kind of guy full of adrenaline. Keeping him under control is by far the biggest challenge of the day." If that's keeping Vince under control then I'm scared to see him on camera out of control. YOU'RE MARRYING TRIPLE H LATER THIS YEAR, WHY NOT WED IN A WRESTLING RING? "Well, we've been almost married in the ring four times and it didn't work out. So I'd say a change of venue is in order." Thank God for that. No one wants to see that shit on TV. IS TRIPLE H THREE TIMES THE MAN? "Yes, and then some." Filth~! CELEBRITY YOU'D LOVE TO GET IN THE RING? "That Greek woman running for governor in California [Arianna Huffington] who had the attitude in the debate with Arnold Schwarzenegger. She was such a b----. She had this holier-than-thou attitude that really annoyed me." My heart just grew a little for Steph. I hate that women. Her and that attorney in Cali (I think that is where she's from) who is always sticking her nose in peoples business. She's always the one on TV trying to bring charges against Michael Jackson and Eminem. CAREER ADVICE: "Learn as much about people as you possibly can before trying to start a career in the business. The business is all about psychology." ~Translation~ Learn how to take advantage of people so you can always get ahead in the business. That's the true psychology of the business world.
