Fred Phelps to put anti-gay monument @ public park

A question to our more legal-minded members here: could the Shephard family sue Phelps for defamation of character, libel, or any similar crime for claiming on a public monument that Matthew is now burning in hell for his sins?

I doubt it. Phelps could easily skate on the grounds of freedom of religion there.

 

They'd probably have a good case for emotional trauma and the like, though.

Ya know, i actually MET these people once, and I got proof for any doubters, and god damn, these people are fucking out of their mind. And very touchy. Which leads me to ask, if you're affraid of being touched while protesting Mr. Rogers, are you sure you really want to be protesting this? Sadly, they have every right to say what they wish, double standard of the first amendment.

 

As for what happened with Mr. Rogers

They were outprotested by Mr. Rogers supporters

 

That was it. It was basically ignored by all local media that I was aware of because NO ONE wanted to give them any exposure. Which is really a double standard. They were protesting right out front of where I was working, the pittsburgh post gazette, which is like the paper of the city, and they didnt even mention it.

Its both sad and just totally wrong that someone would be murdered for whistling at a person of a different color. Which brings me to the next point, what gave white people of the 100 years or so after the civil war the right to treat black people like shit. I mean like why would a person ever look at some one as inferior because of the amount of pigment in their skin. People make me sick. When will we learn that we are all the same

I rarely waste the time to wish death on people, but I sincerely hope that Phelps dies frightened, miserable, alone, and in a lot of pain, in a pool of his own blood, vomit, and excrement. And I hope he's surrounded by gay men pointing and laughing at him all the while.

Now cynical, are you saying that the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is NOT a respected metropolitan daily?

 

I'm surprise the PG would avoid this -- whenever the KKK paid a visit downtown a few years ago, the newspaper supplied a plethora of coverage, especially of the protestors.

I was just a general gopher, I wasn't on the payroll offically, so i got ZERO benefits, and I was only working like 50 hour a month, and that fact sucked. Mostly what I did was paste up articles for national and state journalism awards like Clarion and Keystone, and a slew of others.

 

I used to get the trib for free and I got what I paid for. I just didnt find their paper as high of quality. And their sales people tried some shady shit on me after I told them to stop calling, I work for your competition.

Oh, the Trib's telemarketers are out of control. And while I think the PG's editorial board has never seen a tax hike it didn't like (except for the one proposed to tax every newspaper stand machine device in the city -- wonder whey they didn't endorse that), the layout and design, I think, is usually great.

 

Of course I get my news from Internet news wires now, so the above is pretty much a moot point...
