RavishingRickRudo Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 I caught the tail-end of RAW on Monday and as Goldberg was coming to the ring JR was going-on, as he usually does, about his football career. Aside from "giving the wrestler credibility" - which it really doesn't cause football and wrestling are two fucking different sports, what is the point of this?? Yes, JR is a big football fan, but isn't Monday Night Football "Raw's 'main' competition"? JR - the lead announcer in the WWE - is basically advertising the NFL, free-of-charge, and saying that it's more important that Goldberg's (or anyone elses) achievements in Wrestling. Viewer: "Let's see what's goin on in the WWE" *turns on RAW* JR: "FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL!" Viewer: "Hey, football's on!" *turns off Raw*
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 They want to stress that the wrestlers are in fact well-tuned athletes and not big pussies dancing around in spandex undies. Which they are, when you think about it.
Guest Maccam16 Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Viewer: "Let's see what's goin on in the WWE" *turns on RAW* JR: "FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL!" Viewer: "Hey, football's on!" *turns off Raw* You can't make that shit up!
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Yes it is an effort to show the wrestlers as tough guys with legit athletic backgrounds.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 I like how Mark Henry being the World's strongest Man makes his boring moveset deadly. It's like...he's so strong that a poorly applied headlock is lethal!
Guest wrestlingbs Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Can you imagine if the WWE made as much fuss over other sports as they do with football. JR: Let me tell you, King, this guy is no weakling. He was a champion table tennis player for 5 years!
Jack_Bauer Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 This reminds me of the Family Guy episode with the guy always shouting 'FOOTBALL !' OK, it was a football game but still .... .... OK.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 You should've heard JR in the NWA. He would go on and on and on about any guy who used to play football during matches.
Guest OnlyMe Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 You should've heard JR in the NWA. He would go on and on and on about any guy who used to play football during matches. I remember when Ric Flair started playing football during matches. Scored a touchdown, then won with the figure-4.
Guest Fook Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 You should've heard JR in the NWA. He would go on and on and on about any guy who used to play football during matches. And the difference between then and now is...?
Guest Redhawk Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Giving a guy's football history does show that he's a legit athlete and not "just some wrestler," but it's true that JR gives football more credit than other sports. The only other wrestlers I've seen get "legit athlete" backgrounds are amateur wrestlers (Angle, Haas, Lesnar, Benjamin) and powerlifters (Mark Henry, Dino Bravo). Neither JR, King, Cole or Tazz mentions that Shaniqua, Kevin Nash and Big Show used to play basketball. They hardly ever mention Jericho's hockey background. And I'm sure there are some former baseball players in WWE who don't get any credit.
Guest Boo_Bradley Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Dr. Death and Ron Simmons, 2 of JR's favorite Football blow jobbers
lomasmoney Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 fuck yeah big kev rocked aquinas high school in southgate michigan back in the day
2GOLD Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Maybe JR is just trying to get a job for FOX NFL Sunday?
Guest Choken One Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Maybe JR is just trying to get a job for FOX NFL Sunday? I hear Fox wants to do a Necrophila angle with Howie Long and His Personality...So Maybe Jillian can set Ross on fire...
Kahran Ramsus Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Randy Savage played baseball, and I remember them mentioning that a couple times.
Guest Choken One Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Yep Played a full season for the Cardinals Minors...I believe or was that Lanny? Weren't their father a Pro player?
AndrewTS Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Just get it over with, teach JR to use the gee-tar, and he can use his working half of his mouth to sing as best as he can like Hank Williams. "ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBA--er, PHYSICAL INTENSITY!?!?!"
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 9, 2003 Author Report Posted October 9, 2003 Oh, wrestling is not legitimate enough nor are the bumps and moves in the ring, so they have to "move up" to football in order to give wrestlers credibility? ... I still don't get it. It devalues wrestling and supports the competition.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 You know what I don't get? Why Edge's TitanTron STILL shows him running around in the subways, dark corners etc. looking really angry and dark. It's time for Edge to come clean about why he's so pissed at the world.
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 9, 2003 Author Report Posted October 9, 2003 NO! LET HIM HAVE HIS MYSTERY!
Lord of The Curry Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 NO!~ WE MUST CURE EDGE OF HIS ANGER~!
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 9, 2003 Author Report Posted October 9, 2003 It's what fuels him. The rage. The anger. The contempt of a world full of ignorance and injustice. You think you know him? You'll never know him. You are lost... and scared.

Well, if you were forced to work as a member of a group UNDERNEATH Gangrel, wouldn't you be mildly peeved? That, and having to work with Albert on PPV? That'll make anybody irritable. I think Edge just needs a great big ol' hug. -=Mike
Lord of The Curry Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 *Rhyno shows up all of a sudden* "Anybody need some spooning?"

Lord of The Curry Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Edge needs to cut his hair but grow long sideburns and wear thick black glasses. Then he needs to start crying and screaming for no reason.
Adam Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 You think you know him. You'll never know him... unless you read The Edgeucation of Adam Copeland.
Guest Goodear Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Yep Played a full season for the Cardinals Minors...I believe or was that Lanny? Weren't their father a Pro player? I know Angelo Poffo used to be a wrestler but I've never heard that he played ball. And Randy was the ball player which always made the WWF celebrity softball games fun since cranky old Randy would come up and knock one out the park. That was always a good time.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 You should've heard JR in the NWA. He would go on and on and on about any guy who used to play football during matches. And the difference between then and now is...? Well, the difference is that when Ross used to do that in the NWA he was talking about football during matches that were actually good.......
