Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 I've only been watching off and on in the last year, so I need help with these 1. Has anyone gotten the better of Austin in the long run since his return last February (not counting the Rock, since Rock is another golden boy)? 2. Speaking of RAW golden boys, have Austin and Trips been in any major confrontations? Seems like every time I've watched, they exist in parallel universes on RAW and their paths never meet. Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 15, 2003 They had a couple backstage skits together but nothing major as Austin never seems bothered by HHH...he mainly enforces a new rule or something...
Papacita 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 1. Has anyone gotten the better of Austin in the long run since his return last February (not counting the Rock, since Rock is another golden boy)? Kane no-sold an Austin beatdown and chokeslammed him a few months back. All I can remember. 2. Speaking of RAW golden boys, have Austin and Trips been in any major confrontations? Seems like every time I've watched, they exist in parallel universes on RAW and their paths never meet. A lot of times. Aside from their one on one matches, the most famous being a 2/3 falls match at No Way Out 2001, HHH masterminded a plot to run over Austin, putting him out of action in late 99. A year later, Austin returned from injury and killed him by dropping him from a giant crane. HHH rose from the dead weeks later to attack him, and later cost Austin a World Title match against Kurt Angle that caused Jim Ross to "Damn his soul". Austin returned the favor by costing Hunter a World Title match at Royal Rumble 2001, leading to their 2/3 falls match at No Way Out...then Austin turned after Wrestlemania X7 and he and HHH formed the 2 man Power Trip and went on to win the Tag Titles from Taker and Kane. HHH was supposed to turn face and beat Austin for the title, but he tore his quad and by the time he came back, Austin had turned face. I don't think they've had any major confrontations since. Edit:Misread the post...thought he said he'd started watching last year. My bad.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 I think the only thing Austin did was set up a few matches to annoy HHH. I do not think HHH has ever chased Austin around the backstage with the sledgehammer or anything like that.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 An interesting note on that HHH face turn. It was originally supposed to happen right after WMX7, but HHH nixed the idea.Instead of capitalizing on a perfect moment to turn HHH, they nixed it in favor of a poorly thought out 2 man power trip angle. Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 15, 2003 The two man power trip was great if you ask me but yeah I mean we could have had one HOT Austin/HHH angle right after a great WM... instead we got a handful of good Canadian Violence Matches...
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 Edit:Misread the post...thought he said he'd started watching last year. My bad. <L> Quite allright, there I've not been fully watching at all since 2002, really I was a devout fan up until the WCW acquisition and botched Invasion, then pretty much said "fuck it" and didn't watch from Sept '01 to Dec '02, when I decided to start watching again, although only on and off due to scheduling conflicts with work and school (and shitty storylines)
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 Man he should've turned the night after WMX7. When he came out with the sledgehammer during the cage match the place EXPLODED.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 Of course, it was HHH's convincing of Vince to remain heel and upstage Austin.
Highland 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 I know I do my share of Austin bashing, but I will definately mark out if/when he gives the stunner to HHH and hopefully soon. But, whether HHH sells it or not is up in the air.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 The last time I can remember Austin and HHH actually going at it was the 2002 RR. Angle eliminated Austin though. It was originally supposed to happen right after WMX7, but HHH nixed the idea.Instead of capitalizing on a perfect moment to turn HHH, they nixed it in favor of a poorly thought out 2 man power trip angle. Well, I heard HHH was to get the face turn after the Power Trip ended (which happened to be the night of the quad tear) and was to feud with Austin through the summer of 2001. Yeah, Invasion wasn't supposed to happen because of this, but alas it did at the last minute. Thanks, Trips.
cbacon 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 If Trips never turned we never would have got Jericho/Benoit vs. Austin/HHH

I always thought it'd have been great if Austin attacked HHH's quad the night they announced his injury. They could run a little interview segment where HHH explains the extent of his injury, takes a couple of verbal shots at Austin...the two get in a confrontation, but Austin backs down, and while HHH is leaving the ring, Austin jumps him and Pillmanizes him. Would've put a lot of heat on Austin and made HHH's transition to Face a lot more believable...but maybe he was too injured, so it's somewhat understanable why they didn't go through with something like that. You know that would make more sense than the "i'm pregnant" angle, bad soap opera at it's worst, pillmanizing the leg would've gotten HHH over as a babyface big time, i think super HHH would've sucked it up for a backstage skit with Austin destroying his leg , would've made HHH's injury mean something instead of the "i walk and my quads break" excuse. It's true anyone could book better than the WWE writers. Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 If Trips never turned we never would have got Jericho/Benoit vs. Austin/HHH Oh yeah, one match totally made not having a red-hot program that would have probably lasted up to the Invasion worth it.

Great? It was great? It was fuckin moronic. The philosophy of " He tried to kill me so I want him as my best friend" is so ass-backwards it's ridiculous. It was refreshing to have a couple of renegade heels on the show, and I'll be damned if I didn't mark for the Hardyz and Lita getting destroyed. The angle was alright right up until Judgment Day when they started all the bullshit with Sara.
Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 The most obvious problem is that they didn't go through with the Triple H/Austin feud right after Wrestlemania, when they just came off their hottest show ever. If they kept the momentum going with the Austin/HHH feud, they could've had better ratings. Another problem people overlook is the fact that the main opponents for Austin and Triple H were Kane and the Undertaker (when both Kane and Undertaker were stale and couldn't work a good match). Had Jericho and Benoit been the main threats from April until the summer, things could've been different, but we won't know unless we build a time machine, slaughter the writing team of 2001, and try things.
