Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 At this point, it's obvious that the Marlins simply have more heart. The Yanks were dealt a big blow last night and tonight, as well, but if they're this great team so many claim that they are (which isn't to say they're not), they'd be able to rebound from them, and so far, they haven't. I really don't care who wins at this point, I just want the series to be over.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 So an obviously tiring Brad Penny loads the bases for the hottest hitter and what happens? Williams swings at the first pitch. Just the thing to do with a guy who's got a blister on his hand and is losing control by each pitch. Genius.

Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 The hell? They played the "Little Rascals" theme over footage of Dontrelle in the minors... Well, I guess he does kinda look like Buckwheat "I be-uh throwin' the strikes now, suh"
Sandman9000 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I'm more frustrated then mad. They've been beating themselves about as much as the Marlins have been beating them. Torre's mental breakdown of inserting the pressure-folding Weaver into not just a World Series game, but a TIE WORLD SERIES GAME IN EXTRA INNINGS! Predictably, Weaver folds and gives up the game winning run. And tonight, Wells going all of 3 outs and forcing the bullpen to scramble, which they have not done well tonight. Add in Giambi and Soriano being unable to hit the ball, as well as mistakes in the field, and it's no wonder that the Yanks need to win the next two in the Bronx. Cartman 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Imagine the backlash in Boston if this was Boston and Grady had benched Nomar and Manny in a World Series game. THAT is about the same garbage as Torre pulled tonight and he is called a great manager.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 True dat. To me, it's not just the Marlins having more heart at this point, but they're just playing smarter. Taking nothing away from the Yanks, it just seems like they've taken their spot for granted in some areas.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 And THAT'S why you don't bench someone like Giambi. He's got the whole offseason to recover. Prima donnas.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 What in the living HELL is up with those DAMN YANKS!? I hate them, but damnit to hell, they have no fucking quit in them at all. That's the making, of true champions. Fuck em though, and GO MARLINS!
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Boy, that's gotta be tough for Yanks fans to swallow. They play like schmucks for eight innings and decide to turn it around with only two outs left. They'll have proven me wrong if they manage to tie this one up. Either way, they've certainly made this one interesting, but it may be too little too late.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Goddamn those fucking Yankees are like Jason and Freddy... they just won't die
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted October 24, 2003 And THAT'S why you don't bench someone like Giambi. He's got the whole offseason to recover. Prima donnas. Exactly. Just move him and Sorriano down the batting line-up, don't take them out. Even the defense suffered.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Thank God, that was exciting. I may hate the Yanks, but damnit, I LOVE watching them play MLB. I really, really do.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Wow, I thought for a second I was watching history in the making, but that damn Pro Player Stadium and its unfriendly offensive surroundings took it away. And I thought Matsui had two on that laser beam to Lee that just ended the game. Now why couldn't they play this way the other eight innings they played tonight? I know Penny was very good, but they certainly had their chances and blew 'em.
Mik 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Whew. Was watching in living room. Yankees always make it a game. If there was any question that Derek Lee is a gold glove first baseman, I hope it's been answered. He just saved the game and quite possibly the series. Count me in with anyone who almost had a heart attack on Bernie Williams warning track popout. Beckett may pitch Saturday. This is awesome. 3-2 Marlins, baby! WHOOOOOOOO! Mik 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Well, according to all the Yankees fans on this board, they should have lost two games ago. Beckett > Pettite
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Unless they get to Beckett early. Remember game one of the NLCS. The Cubs took Beckett to school. But then again, that's key when trying to beat any great pitcher.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Well, according to all the Yankees fans on this board, they should have lost two games ago. Beckett > Pettite Beckett > Pettite? Fuck dude, who is the winningest pitcher in WS history? Don't feed me this Marlin propaghanda.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I know we're only five games through, but who're your thoughts on MVP as of this point And where can I find stats for the WS... the two sites I go to have stats for the entire postseason, but none for just the WS
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I don't think anyone's really stood out in this series. Maybe Jeter since he's gotten the rallies going in several games, but if the Marlins are on the winning side, maybe someone like Pierre, who basically won them game one and has played a large part in their success in the WS so far. Beckett's start was overshadowed by the fact that they ended up losing the game, IMO.
Mik 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Pettite might have the edge now Banky, but you're looking a future multiple Cy Young...and he's just starting to make a name for himself. I don't think there has been a more valuable pitcher, overall, in the 2003 playoffs than Josh Beckett.
Sandman9000 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Out of the entire Yanks pitching staff, the most consistent person there is Andy Pettitte. Thankfully, he's the one on the mound Saturday. I'm going under the assumption that Pettitte will be able to hit the strike zone, and Beckett is going on a day's less rest, though he is young. I can see the Yanks pulling out game six. Game seven is all bets off. Unfortunately.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 What about Jeff Conine for the Marlins. David Wells is a big fat out of shape slob. That let his team down. God, I bet his team is pissed at him right know.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I can't believe people are ready to pour dirt on the Yankee grave. A team notorious for amazing comebacks playing to games in a building where strange things happen in October, and you thin it's over?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Obviously its not, and wouldn't be for any team really. Great storyline for the World Series now, with the Yankees needing two in their home park. To respond to a few posts.... It's just more logical to put Weaver in while it's tied and use Rivera if you get a lead. Think about that for a second. In which situation will a run cost you the most? Obviously when the game is tied. If you're ahead, you at least have room for error. I say use your best pitcher when the game is tied. Too many managers (looking straight at Tony LaRussa) are too piss scared to use their closer unless its a save situation, and it costs them the game. Beckett > Pettite? Fuck dude, who is the winningest pitcher in WS history? Don't feed me this Marlin propaghanda. Pettitte's 3-3 in the World Series, and coming into this Series he sported a 5.08 World Series ERA. Sure, he holds the record for postseason wins, but that's entirely a product of the wild card. The record for WORLD SERIES wins is held by Whitey Ford, with 10. Oh yes, if you want to compare Pettitte and Beckett, I'd point out that Pettitte didn't get his first postseason victory until he was 24. Beckett's only 23.
