Guest Evolution Report post Posted August 17, 2004 SFBL OPENING DAY 2018 NEW YORK BUMS AT BOSTON TEA BAGGERS Adam West was 2-for-4 as his sophomore season got off to a fair start, but Boston ended up taking the victory 4-2. West, the 2017 Fresh Fish Award winner, hit his first double of the season in the sixth inning, as the Bums were held to three hits--only one other player on the Bums picked up a hit, the Boston pitching dominating. LAS VEGAS JOKERS AT SEATTLE FRASIERS David Hunter's triple in the seventh inning was his only hit of the day in four at-bats, and it brought home a run as well as Hunter, who would later score in the inning. Unfortunately, Seattle stayed one step ahead of the Jokers and hung on for a 7-6 victory. RJ Frost hit his first homerun of the season, a solo shot in the seventh inning. His 2-for-4 performance brought in two runs total, along with his one run scored. MONTREAL FRITURES DE LIBERTE AT PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM Edward James came up empty on this opening day, going 0-for-4. Philadelphia needed two runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat Montreal, but they did it nonetheless, hanging on for a 3-2 victory on the first day of the season. LOS ANGELES GLORY HOLES AT PHOENIX ASHES Austin Sly saw mostly walks on this day, only getting two official at-bats and getting a hit in one of those, but the real story was that he received three walks during the course of the game, eventually scoring on one of those walks. Phoenix came back in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 3-all, but Los Angeles pulled away in the very next half inning, picking up a run and winning 4-3 in extra innings. Rolf Dreikugeln was on the mound when the winning run scored for the Glory Holes, and was credited with the loss in the game. DENVER DOUCHEBAGS AT CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY After making many improvements in the offseason, including the acquiring of Logan Caldwell and Eric LeBeau, Chicago took the field as a team destined for a return to the SFBL Championship against the Denver Douchebags. Paco Fernandez didn't seem too affected by the loss of his position to Logan Caldwell at third base, as his first game as a designated hitter was mildly successful. His only hit in the game was a double in the seventh inning, but Paco would score later in the inning for his second scored run of the game. Logan Caldwell, on the other hand, ended up hitless in four at-bats, batting right behind Paco. Francisco Parisi's two doubles as a part of a 4-for-4 day resulted in three RBI, and Waverly Whaley added another RBI as the Transit Authority beat Denver 4-2. OKLAHOMA TWISTERS AT BALTIMORE CRIME SPREE Baltimore, who has fallen into a huge rut as a team in the past few seasons, doesn't look like they're going to be able to change much in the near future. With Marvin Jenkins on the mound, Oklahoma gave the Lunatic all the run support they needed as Marvin picked up a shutout and a complete game in his first start of the season. Baltimore's pitching did not fare nearly as well. Not even close, as the Twisters rolled to a 13-0 victory over the Crime Spree. Timothy Marsch finished the day going 1-for-4 with a single in the third inning that brought home a run. Later in the game, Marsch would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in his second RBI of the game, as that is the total that he finished with. Jenkins allowed no runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out three, as he threw sixty-five of his 117 pitches for strikes. NEW ORLEANS CRUNK MACHINE AT JACKSONVILLE JACKOFFS Winston Ghandi went 3-for-4, but was only able to score once as Jacksonville was dominated by the Crunk Machine by a final score of 11-2. CHARLOTTE HARLOTS AT ATLANTA HANOI JANES Carlos DeSantis' march towards 3000 hits and 500 homeruns began once again this year. He picked up two hits (2825 hits total), scoring twice and driving in one run on his fifth inning solo homerun (470 total), but Charlotte was able to hang on and beat Atlanta 10-9. MEMPHIS EELS AT HOUSTON HORNY TOADS Memphis, now with 100% more power with the addition of Robert Henderson in the offseason, beat Houston 11-5, but it was mostly without the help of Henderson, who went 1-for-5 with a run scored and one run driven in. Horny Toad Patrick Hannon went 2-for-4 in his opening effort. VANCOUVER VASECTOMY AT COLUMBUS PRIDE In a slugfest, Jonathan Dehn was able to come to the plate six times, but only was able to get one hit to show for it. He also stole his first base of the season, as Columbus outslugged the Vasectomy 13-11. KANSAS CITY REAL MCCOYS AT INDIANAPOLIS IGNITION Rookie Jesse Ewiak went 1-for-3 in his Real McCoy debut, drawing a walk and scoring a run as Kansas City went on to victory over the Ignition by the score of 4-2. Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2004 Well, it looks like Shiro's career is basically over now. Too bad. I just hope he can crawl up to the majors long enough to get 2600. Any chance of Shiro going to the Hall of Fame?
Guest Evolution Report post Posted August 18, 2004 At this point in Shiro's career, he can retire now and make it to the Hall of Fame, since he has at least 2,500 hits and a .300 or higher batting average. If he should stick around and his batting average begins to waver, however, there could be some problems. His career batting average right now is sitting at .308, so it's in danger of dropping too far and ruining his chances for a plaque. As of right now, no SFBL player is in the Hall of Fame, TSM or not. The two closest players have been Brandon Musselwhite, who finished his career with 2,360 hits and a .301 career batting average, and Sergio Santana, who finished his career with 483 career homeruns. For the record, players with 3,000 hits and 500 homeruns or 2,500 hits with a .300 batting average or higher are a lock to get into the Hall of Fame. 300 wins and 600 saves for pitchers, or 250 wins with an ERA of 3.50 or lower. Guest Evolution Report post Posted August 18, 2004 So Evo... is there any chance of Corbin getting signed to a team this season? Hell... I'd settle for him being in the minors at this point. Well, he's not a very good player. He's certainly accelerating his retirement date, but if Ben Dover can get a job pitching for a team, Corbin sure has a shot. It's probably a matter of when he gets to the minors, not if.

Well, according to the starting lineups, the game actually appears to be helping the TSM players get some time in the sun in the All-Star Game. East-West All-Stars CF Nat Mortensen DH John Tripp RF Jose Etenza 3B Edward James SS Robert Gennari LF Abel Ortiz C Eduardo Lizana 2B Chris Britt 1B RJ Frost Starting Pitcher: Bill Cobos Okay, so Marvin Jenkins has a lower ERA, but that's okay, don't even bother to play him in this game. Austin Sly will likely see some time in some shape or form. North-South All-Stars 2B Neall Isaacson SS Lloyd Bazley 1B Robert Henderson DH Fernando Ornelas LF John Scherfenberg 3B Patrick Hannon CF Matthew Laduke RF Bill Anschitz C David Zearge Starting Pitcher: Claudio Galaviz I don't see Ewiak getting any playing time, but Dehn could make a very good pinch runner should the situation call for one in the late innings of the game. Coming up later...the recap of the game itself!
Sly 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2004 I sunk back to average-it-tude... but still made the All Star Game. Yay me! LA slipped out of first in the division though... what's up with that trade, btw?
KingPK 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2004 Go away for a few days, and you get thrown back east 3,000 miles. LA got some good value for the 4th pitcher in the rotation, though. I guess my salary was one of the reasons for this.
Guest Evolution Report post Posted August 23, 2004 The Kostka trade was completely out of my control, if that isn't obvious. 2018 SFBL ALL-STAR GAME Once again, Marvin Jenkins was selected to an All-Star Game and did not see any playing time. Fortunately, the East-West All-Stars did not have to regret this decision. It was the North-South pitching that could not hold up against the East-West offense. The North-South had a 6-0 lead at one point, but the game was eventually tied at 8-8 until the bottom of the ninth, when Robert Herring finally capped off the huge comeback with a two-run homerun with one out in the inning, winning the game for the East-West by a score of 10-8. Robert Henderson went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and a walk drawn in the game. One of his two hits was a triple in the third inning that scored one run to make the score 2-0. Jesse Ewiak would later come into the game after Henderson left for pinch hitter Michael Maley, but Ewiak would strike out in his only at-bat of the game. Jonathan Dehn pinch-hit for John Scherfenberg and had great success, hitting a double to lead off the seventh inning. Dehn would score later in the inning, representing the final run that the North-South All-Stars would score in the game, leading 8-3 at that point. Patrick Hannon went 0-for-3, but did reach base after being hit by a pitch. He would later score. As for the East-West, Edward James finished the night going 1-for-3 with one run scored after he hit a double in the fourth inning with one out. Austin Sly was a defensive replacement for Eddie Lizana late in the game, but was issued a walk in his only at-bat of the game. RJ Frost went 1-for-4, also hitting a double, this one in the fourth inning with no one on and one out. He, too, would score later in the inning. Of all the TSM players selected to the Game, only Marvin Jenkins did not play, continuing his bad luck with the All-Star Game and his utter lack of playing time. NORTH-SOUTH ALL-STARS 8, EAST-WEST ALL-STARS 10 WP - Luciano Rovira LP - Rafael Calderon Time of Game: 4 hours, 4 minutes All-Star Game MVP: Robert Gennari (3-for-4, 3 R, 4 RBI, BB, SB, three-run homerun in seventh inning)
Guest Evolution Report post Posted August 23, 2004 JULY 31ST Okay, so the day before the trade deadline expires is already here. Some trades that have already happened in the month of July leading up to this: Trade between Los Angeles and Oklahoma : Oklahoma gets : P Miguel Herrero Los Angeles gets : C Timothy Marsch Trade between Chicago and Charlotte : Charlotte gets : P Eric LeBeau 3B Rey Natal Chicago gets : P Steve Pottorff Trade between New Orleans and Kansas City : Kansas City gets : RF Rik Carlsten LF Ramiro Palo New Orleans gets : 1B Jesse Ewiak Trade between Charlotte and Baltimore : Baltimore gets : P Eric LeBeau 3B Rey Natal Charlotte gets : P Raimundo Garcia No other TSM players are currently on the trading block that haven't already been traded. Click here to view the standings before the July 31st games. Considering that LeBeau was traded from a legit wildcard contender to two consecutive crappy teams, I get the feeling that he will want a third trade before the end of the deadline. Otherwise, I see no reason for the others who were traded to get bent out of shape. Perhaps Kostka would like to move on to other pastures as well. Anyway, point is, if anyone wants a trade before the deadline and the home stretch, speak now or be stuck with that team until 2019. Oh, and here are the players who are in negotiations for a contract extension: Ben Dover (wants $920,000 per year for 2 years) Logan Caldwell (wants $5,200,000 per year for 3 years) RJ Frost (wants $5,250,000 per year for 3 years) Giant Gonzales (wants $900,000 per year for 1 year) Ann Onita (open to any offer from the Harlots) Mike Van Siclen (is in his prime and would like to test the market, but can still entertain an offer from the Crunk Machine)
