Styles 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Oh god, this sucks. This sucks, this sucks, this sucks! I can't believe it! This was huge, they had been hyping the show, the angle was just starting, Hogan was gonna call in this week and then appear next week! Damnit, now TNA just looks like saps to the average fan who wonders why they promised Hulk Hogan and a big 3 hour PPV. I think Hogan is a selfish fuck. It's not like he does anything that physical, he could have worked the match and had the surgery after. Oh great, this means Russo will still be around, ah fuck! Guest OSIcon Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Damnit, now TNA just looks like saps to the average fan who wonders why they promised Hulk Hogan and a big 3 hour PPV. I don't really think that any average fans know about TNA. This is probably better for TNA if they end up having the Pay Per View with Hogan later on. They had about a month to advertise it and from what I've seen of TNA's advertising so far, its not much (or any at all). If they can get a new date in concrete and begin working on advertising strategies, they will be better off.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 The wrestling one-shot doesn't work! It doesn't fucking work! You can't just have one supershow and expect a base of fans for life, Russo tried it multiple times in WCW. They should use the next couple months to let Mantell build some unique feuds and try to gain momentum on their own, and if they don't, then try Hogan. If it gains momentum on its own, they won't need to spend an assload of money on him.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 22, 2003 This only goes to prove TNA is SO SO SO many steps behind WWE in all environments.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 True...but I wish the WWE would have had a reason to cancel most of their ppvs this year.
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted October 22, 2003 They totally should change it just because EVERYONE knows Jarrett is winning. Jarrett's not winning. I'm pretty sure of that. (If you mean tomorrow. If you meant this PPV, yeah, he probably would have beat Hogan.)
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Don't do it Dusk. You'll only be pissed when it doesn't go your way
Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 22, 2003 The fact TNA was charging 35 bucks is a fucking joke...you can BARELY sell with 9 bucks a pop...to say "We got HOGAN! So pay three TIMES that amount!" makes your contracted wrestler look weak and makes it look like that you are expecting to compete with WWE. They should have just gone the ECW route and charged 19.99 or 21.
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 I suggested this on the totalnonstop board: "Fly in Hulk Hogan for tomorrow night. Have him run in and help AJ retain the belt. After the match JJ is pissed and absolutely destroys Hogan in the ring. You can run this injury angle a few months until the ppv can happen with JJ as a heel bragging about how he destroyed Hogan. When Hogan comes in for the ppv he can finally get his revenge and go over Jeff. "
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Eh, I don't mind if AJ doesn't win. I have faith that they can still do stuff with him without the belt. No matter how disappointing his run may or may not have been, it's given him major cred he can run with in his post-reign feud. Call it a hunch, but AJ's retaining, this week, at least. He WILL drop it to JJ at some point, I just highly doubt it's tomorrow.
Guest The Decadent Slacker Report post Posted October 22, 2003 So when would they actually have this PPV now? I mean, January to April are HUGE WWE months, thanks to Rumble & Mania. They have it then, it bombs like the new Eddie Murphy movie. How long is Hogan out?
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 WHY in the fucking hell did they cancel an entire show because one guy is out? Keep the show and BUILD to it, and use it as an oppertunity to make your guys shine.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Because NO one will pay 35 bucks for Aj Styles or the wwe rejects. They can hardly get 15000 to pay 9 bucks...
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 To be fair this event was going to be alot more than just Hogan for the extra money they were charging. They were doing it in a larger venue, most likely were going to have alot of added special effects like pyro for the show, were going to bring in wrestlers from japan and mexico, have celebrities at the show, and it was going to go 3 hours. I'm sure it would have been worth the $30.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 22, 2003 not to people who had no idea what it would be... Pyro wont get people to buy it... TNA needs to stop buying up little cruisers and shit and start marketing the god damn company...the ppv previews STILL show Shamrock...
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Well on the bright side this at least fouls up the WWF's plan to bring Hogan back for Mania XX.
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Of course it is still going to show Shamrock. He is name some recognize so they will show him in it. Just like they still show Scott Hall, Xpac, Sting, Chris Rock, and others in it. The latest ad for the ppv I've seen focused totally on AJ Styles and noone else. I saw it on MTV. TNA could be doing a better job in some areas, but marketing doesn't really seem to be one of them. What they need to improve is their merchandise section. If they would sell dvds of shows with maybe 4 each on them for $25-$30 and put them online and not force people to use paypal only to pay, they would be turning a profit right now. It is ridiculous they don't have a decent online store setup. Even fucking 1wrestling has a store setup and Bob Ryder works for TNA and on their website. Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 22, 2003 You don't see WWE showing randy savage to hype No mercy do you? Showing unemployed people to market your product makes you look weak and bush
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 It is a benefit to a smaller promotion like TNA though and like I've said I've seen the AJ commercial a couple of times on channels like MTV. The other one I only see during the all day preview before the show.
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 I also read in this week's Observer that Jerry Jarrett keeps costs so low that they are barely losing money on TNA. If they started blowing all of their money on more marketing their losses would balloon and then they would probably be shut down and sold off to WWE, who you know will be right there and more than willing to buy the trademarks, names, and video footage.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 They need to keep Styles heel, and build around him as the cocky, arrogant little guy that's actually really good and wins matches. If they build the character well, a blow off down the line with a babyface the fans like (NOT JARRETT) will draw well. They should give the injury angle to Styles, not Jarrett.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 TNA could also try dumping a lot of their dead weight wrestlers that just offer nothing to the promotion. That's how you really cut costs. Bring in some of the more talented Indy guys, you could probably get 2 or 3 for whatever they're paying Vampiro.
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Vampiro isn't meant to be long term anyway. He's just another guy brought in by Mitchell and should be gone after their blowoff match. Styles shouldn't be a heel right now. He needs to turn back face. The fans want him as a face and cheer him most of the time anyway. Plus he works better as the face.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Works better as a face? Woah, I guess we have a huge difference of opinion there, as to me the vast majority of his best Indy matches have been with him as the heel. He's not exactly the greatest seller (Save the Incredible match with London), and thus makes a much better heel in long matches. His flashy offense does get pops, but it really disrupts the flow of matches and he has been moving away from it recently. The best way to make money is to have a heel with the belt and a babyface chasing it, so maybe Jarrett will win this Wednesday, if they want Styles as a face. However, it seems to me like they want to build Abyss as a super face.
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 I've read the plan is actually to keep Abyss as a heel for now although this could change. The plan was also supposed to be a double turn in the match tomorrow night with JJ going heel and AJ going face, but who knows what is happening now? They are probably still panicking trying to rewrite the show after finding out 11/30 isn't happening.
eirejmcmahon 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Well on the bright side this at least fouls up the WWF's plan to bring Hogan back for Mania XX. Took the words right out of my mouth man, that's the real bright side for me : no Hogan for Mania.... ...but, of course, he still hasn't signed any contracts for NWATNA so this could mean no Hogan for them till after Mania. Guest JacK Report post Posted October 22, 2003 What? No! No! C'mon, No! But, dude, No! I mean, DUDE! NO! I was looking forward to this, an after-HSC present, not like I do any work for the HSC, but hey, I don't need to; this along with Tekken 4, Race Driver, and a whole lotta other shit I want. But, No! C'mon, no! That sucks so much ass! I mean, it was gunna be mega kickass uber cool, apart from Hogan, which is ironic, because he was the crucial element in the instigation of the PPV. But c'mon! No!
