gotta add to the 'night of the hunter' love here. robert mitchum was pure evil in that movie.

amon goethe from 'schindler's list was PURE evil.

but my all-time favorite is harry lime from 'the third man': the only man to ever cause scores of children to die horribly and make it seem cool.

Jason Lee's characte in Dogma (I'm a fuckin' demon)

Azrael ruled.

Bartender: "Alright, Plato. Sounds like you've had drinks already. Let's go."

Azrael: "Come on, bar keep. One drink for the road, then I'm gone.

Bartender: "Alright, one drink, then you're gone."

Azrael: "Give me a holy bartender."

Bartender: "Never heard of it."

Azrael: "You don't know how to make a holy bartender? I can't believe it. I know how to make a holy bartender."

::Azrael pulls out an uzi and shoots the bartender::

Azrael: "Get it?"

Let's see...

Takeshi Kitano - Battle Royale

Mitsuko Souma - Battle Royale

Yes, I suppose Kiriyama belongs on that list, as well.

The Kurrgan - Highlander (Forgive me, Father... I... Am a worm...)

Elijah Price - Unbreakable

Edward - Evil Ed. If for nothing else, for the "Don't you fucking look at me!!!" line. Would have topped the list by miles if he'd actually found and butchered jis daughter.

Honorable mention to the pajamas-clothed gremlin in Edward's refridgerator.

The Brotherhood of the Wolf - The Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Top Dollar (michael wincott's character) from The Crow has always been one of my favs...the way he talks shit to Brandon Lee as he kicks his ass is classic, telling him he put up a good fight and all that as he's beating him...

Um, Azrael had a Mac 10 or 11 in Dogma, not an uzi. ;)

I have to put in a vote for Rusty Nail from Joy Ride. Creepy.

I don't know much about guns, so I was just generalizing. Thanks for the correction.

I'll throw an odd choice out there...

Scar, The Lion King

favourite scene:

his introduction sequence, where he first plays with a mouse ('Life's not fair, is it? You see, I shall never be king. And you... shall never see the light of another day. Adieu.') And then Simba comes along, bragging about being the future king:

Simba: Hey, Uncle Scar. Guess what?

Scar: I despise guessing games.

Simba: I'm going to be King of Pride Rock.

Scar: Oh Goodee.

Simba: My dad just showed me the whole kingdom. And I'm gonna rule it all. Heheh.

Scar: Yes, well forgive me for not leaping for joy. Bad back, you know.

Simba: Hey Uncle Scar, when I'm King, what'll that make you?

Scar: A monkey's uncle.

Simba: You're so weird.

Scar: You have no idea.

Awesome stuff. Also notable are the scene where he tells Simba to run away ('Run away Simba... Yes, run away and never return.' *Simba leaves and Hyenas come out of the mist* 'Kill him.') and, obviously, when he kills Mufasa ('Long Live The King!' *throws his brother to his death*).

Yes, Scar is a great badass.

I still go with Hugo from O; the way Josh Hartnett plays the role is awesome.

As the best villain in film?

I think Denzel Washington's Alonzo (?) character was a great villian, about 3 or 4 times in the movie when he has talking to Jake he made it seem like he was looking out for the good of the people and not just himself. He was cool, and a total scumbag.

You know, I was quite surprised to see that Rev. Harry Powell was the first name mentioned in this thread. I was also quite surprised to see that he's been mentioned numerous times since. Good job.

He's my #1 pick, I think; nothing tops singing hymns while hunting little children.

Also, I forget which brother is which, but the one from Die Hard 3. Greatest scheme ever.

And he's a question: Should we consider Alex, from A Clockwork Orange, a villian? He is the central character, so it's kinda hard to label him as such (since there's no good guy to play off of) but dammit, the man is sick, twisted, demented and just plain evil.

Mitchum was ultra cool in Night of the Hunter but there's something about the way that movie concludes that I just didn't like.

The one character who has ever made me really hate his guts and want him to die is Tim Roth in Rob Roy. The guy molests boys, knocks up his maid and kicks her to the curb, burns Rob Roy's house, rapes his wife (and maybe knocks her up, it's a bit vague), kills Rob's best friend, chases Rob all over Scotland, and for the most part dominates him in the final fight. That my friends is a heel.

Tavington in The Patriot is also a total scumbag, but he's so ludicrously hard to kill that it becomes a bit much after a certain point.
