Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 (edited) (This is not a review, instead, just a few random thoughts about the game.) I am a very, VERY hardcore oldschool video game fan. I've been playing video games for all of my life, so I've been around and I've played every sort of game out there. My favorite video game era would be the classic Mario/TMNT/Contra NES era, it just ruled so much. The games were simple, yet took a certain kind of skill to master. I'm telling you all of this, so you will understand where I am coming from with what I'm about to say, so just stay with me, heh. This new TMNT game, is without a doubt, a return to oldschool. Just as Contra: Shattered Soldiers took us all back to the days of classic Contra action, so does this new TMNT game to the days of classic TMNT fun. If you liked the old games, and STILL like playing the old games, then you will LOVE this new one. In the old games, you went through stages kicking ass over and over again pressing the same buttons over and over, and when you got to a boss you simply had to find a way to get up to it to hit it a few times, dodge their attacks, and then hit it some more. It was straight forward and to the point, and for me, HIGHLY addicting. This game is just like that, with a few updates. The combos (keeps track of how many you hit in a row ala Rygar, etc...), new moves, throwing stars, and other such updates. It's oldschool action, for a new generation...as well as those of us from past generations. Not to mention that the graphics, ohhhhhhhhhhh the graphics. I just really dig this style of graphics, it's just so beautiful to me and it feels as if you are playing a cartoon. I know I'll sound crazy, but screw it. Coming from a life long TMNT fan, who has always loved the game, I can find no faults at all in this new, updated installment of the series. I'm not joking when I say that, everything is just perfect to me. As a matter of fact, it's a lot better than I thought it would be to start with. You can not compare this game to something like Metal Gear Solid, or other such games. This is a certain type of game, and the purpose of it is to bring back that oldschool feel. To me, we need MORE games like this, that take us back and allow us to once again have the same straight forward fun that we took part in so many years ago. I give this game, without flinching, a 10/10. If you are a hardcore oldschool TMNT fan, then you do not want to go without this game. Period. Sincerely, ...Downhome... Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 My favorite one was Turtles In Time (Part IV) with The Arcade Game (Part II) close behind. The Manhatten Project (Part 3) was alright and Tournament Fighters was the fucking shit!
The Dames 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 The original game for NES was one of the hardest games I've ever played. I don't know anyone who made it past the bomb stage underwater. Turtles II (The Arcade Game) was one of my favorite games of that era, and thanks to MAME...I can still mark out for it. Dames
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 The original game for NES was one of the hardest games I've ever played. I don't know anyone who made it past the bomb stage underwater. Understood, but I'll never understand why so many people think that game is so hard. I've beat it many times, I love that game so much, and it's without a doubt one of my favorite classic games of all time. I just don't group them with the other TMNT games, seeing how it's so different and all that. I can't prove it or anything but for what it's worth, as I said above, I've beat the game many times. I was just playing it the other day as a matter of fact. That underwater/bomb deal, it's one of my favorite parts of the game!

The Dames 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 *bows* Thank you, thank you Spree. A better one to me would have been <Arnold Schwartzengger> Well, you must be very proud of yourself... </Arnold Schwartzenegger> Arnold calling Gateway is fucking HILARIOUS. Gateway spokesperson: Sir, what kind of a PC do you have? Arnold: My CPU is a neural net processor, a learning computer. Dames
Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 The underwater stage was easy. I could never find Splinter in that fucking city. And then the Giant Mouser kicked the ever loving shit out of me and I never played it again.
Guest TheBigCalbowski Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I got my copy coming in next week. I bought it on ebay along with HCTP from the same user so I asked him to hold it until HCTP is ready for shipping so it would be combined shipping. I finished the original TMNT game for the NES... with a Game Genie.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted October 24, 2003 As far as the new Turtles game goes, the graphics are "cell shading" so that's why it looks like a cartoon/comic book. A nice touch if you ask me. As far as the original TMNT game goes, I never got past the Technology stage. You know, the stage with all the fire, spikes & moving platforms. I think it was around the airport. If I'm not mistaken, it's right after you rescue Splinter from Slash. Damn that game was hard. That water level just took learning the pattern to go in. The hard part of the game was all the jumps depending on how hard you pressed the jump button.

Guest Coffey Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Battletoads Jet Cruiser Stage >* than TMNT Underwater bomb defuse stage. > = Harder. Next to Ghosts & Goblins, Battletoads may have been the hardest game I ever played.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Battletoads Jet Cruiser Stage >* than TMNT Underwater bomb defuse stage. > = Harder. Next to Ghosts & Goblins, Battletoads may have been the hardest game I ever played. I never found the underwater bomb stage to be THAT hard. I would almost lose one turtle, finish it with another and be done. Then get that Turtle killed on the next stage and go rescue him from that building on the level on the way to save Splinter. The Battle toads board...EVIL. Although I still can hear that sound of a turtle getting hit on the original game and that alarm when you were about to die. That is what nightmares are made of. Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Sounds like I might have to pick up the TMNT game next week, along with HCTP and THUG. There's supposed to be a buy 2, get 1 free deal for PS2 games at TRU next week, which in my opinion, couldn't have come at a better time. Regarding the original TMNT game, I agree with anyone who says that the water stage was hard. The closest I ever came to beating it was having two bombs left with 20 seconds remaining, and one turtle with one hit remaining. Anyone who could beat the water stage without using cheats deserves a freakin' medal. Next to Ghosts & Goblins, Battletoads may have been the hardest game I ever played. I'll agree with that. Battletoads was damn near impossible. I don't think I ever got past the second level. Another hard game was Kid Chameleon for Genesis. That game never seemed to end. Papacita 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 That underwater stage on the original Turtles game was hard as hell. It took me YEARS before I finally beat it...then I couldn't get past the van stage or whatever one came after that. I hated that game so much. The Arcade Game was my favorite of the series. {''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I think Battletoads and Chakan are the only games that I just couldn't beat. I got near the end of battletoads, where you got chased around by a big orb on your little unicycle thing, but the fucker was like twice as fast as you on straight aways. Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 RC PRo Am(which I still refuse to believe anyone has ever beaten) but i was hard. Um... *raises hand* Took me 4 years to do it though... LIES!!!!!! HOW could you beat it. When you get to the highest stages the race starts and this weird noise happens and one car goes into warp speed and its over. HOW could you get first place in it after that. Then there are the boards where the entire fucking thing is a oil slick....I hated that game...yet I couldn't put it down. And I thought everyone could take the underwater scene in turtles. Most times I could get through with one turtle. Use Mike through the stages before it, Donny on the bosses(since he was the strongest) and you would have basically all of your guys at full strengh before the stage started. {''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Well, whenever you build up your upgrades, then spell out nintendo, you lost your current level but keep the abilities, so it basically came down to: over upgrading, corner cutting(a huge must), Nes Advantage controller, way to much free time, and pure Minnesotian Stubborness. Guest Coffey Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I actually beat Kid Chameleon. That's one of my favorite games. Pretty original idea too. There were a piss ton of levels. There was a warp zone to the last boss at the end of level 2 though.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 The Tick on Genesis was the longest fucking game i have ever played. It wasn't hard. I just gave the fuck up and stopped playing after I beat the chairfaced guy on a big cake... Damn that game was weird.
Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I'm with Papacita. The Stage after the Dam was hard. I could never figure out where to go. The Tick was just a boring game. I remember playing that with this big Arcade controller, and I just put it on Turbo, and held down the attack button and walked around. And this new Turtles game does kick ass. Reminds me of a 3-D Turtles Arcade Game. For the people who's played it, what's the highest number of combos you've gotten. Mines 20 hits.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 For the people who's played it, what's the highest number of combos you've gotten. Mines 20 hits. A big ass 17 baby! I haven't tried all that hard to get a huge number though, but I will, bwahahahahahahahaha. As for this game being in 3D, that's true. It feels like the oldschool games because, when you really think about them, they all FELT as if they were sorta in 3D, seeing how you could move back into the background and everything like that. It really feels like they just took one of those old games, updated it and fleshed it out, and gave me exactly what I wanted.

Guest NCJ Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I can't figure out why all of you had trouble with the underwater stage on TMNT. I took one turtle to beat that when I was between seven and nine. My problem was that damn van staage. It pissed me off to no end that I couldn't find out where to go. I could beat everything I faced, go into evry building and clear it out, and get rid of all the other vehicles and roadblocks. But I couldn't beat that level. Finally I just stopped playing it and said fuck it. The only games I had on the original NES that I couldn't beat were TMNT and Gauntlet (which I think has no end), and my collection included Mario 1, Mario 2, Mike Tyson Punchout, Megaman 2, Double Dragon 2, and TMNT 2: The Arcade Game. If anyone can tell me how to get past the van stage I would greatly appreciate it. Also does Gauntlet have an ending. P. S. TMNT 2 kicks a whole lot of ass. Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Two of the only video games that I've never been able to beat, simply because it's too hard for me are Ghosts & Goblins and Battletoads, just as it is for many other people. Any other games that I never beat, was simply because I quit trying. I'll defeat Ghosts & Goblins and Battletoads one day, ONE DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY~!

I wasn't trying for mine either, just starting slashing at a group of about 6 people, and bam, got 20. Thinking about it tho, your assessment is pretty true about the game. It does seem like one of the old 2-D games, just with a new camera angle on it. But of course anything with the Turtles in it is gold anyways
{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Oy. Ghosts & Goblins, one of the most evil games ever. First time I beat it I got to satan but had the dagger instead of the cross so I had to start from the beginning again. After I got a new cartridge, the former some how got broken , I beat the fucking game and never picked up any in the series again.
