EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 I'm not a Yankee fan, but I can tell you that the Yankees have no major players up for free agency except Pettitte, and Clemens (but he's retiring). David Wells has a team option for next year. The Yankees can keep him for $6 Million, or let him go for $1 Mil.
JasonX 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 I've heard rumors to the effect that while Torre won't be fired, that the rest of the coaching staff will most definately be purged. Torre will then be forced into a position of either staying on in the final year of his contract as a lame duck coach with no real power and no chance in hell of coming back the following season or being allowed to quit and spare George the PR nightmare of firing Torre outright.... Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 Don Zimmer's leaving? too freaking bad. Next year he'll end up has the Orioles mascot, and act all buddy buddy with Angelos. WTF? He'd obviously have to the Red Sox's mascot...

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 So is it safe to say the Toronto Blue Jays are going to win the division? Those poor guys are playing on astroturf all the damn time at home, aren't they? I'm suprised they're in good condition. Anyhoo, the sound of shocked silence in Yankees Stadium is a great one. Those poor guys are playing on astroturf all the damn time at home, aren't they? I'm suprised they're in good condition. Anyhoo, the sound of shocked silence in Yankees Stadium is a great one. Maybe they could play on that newfangled FuTurf (surface...of the FUTURE!) or NexTurf (surface...to the NEXT level) or FieldTurf (surface...that resembles a field) instead, or perhaps grass. I heard grass grows in Canada.
treble 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 I think they've talked about putting FieldTurf (or something like it) in SkyDome, but old fashioned Astroturf is the easiest thing to use considering how many different events are held there and how the conversion process takes place. Same reason they didn't put it in Olympic Stadium when they put in a new surface a few years back, even though I believe it was offered to them for free (I think the inventor or creator or whatever is from Montreal). Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted October 27, 2003 Nelson is most likely going on probation(because athletes appear to be above the law) for assault, along with being sued...I don't see him making a team that wants to contend
Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2003 Well, the Oriole orange would look good on him. As a casket cover, perhaps, but that's it. I don't know who the new manager will be yet (I'd like to see Eddie Murray get the job), but I don't see any reason to put Don Zimmer on the coaching staff. Not that he's not a capable coach, but I'd prefer to see younger fellows who can relate to this generation of ballplayers better.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2003 You'd think a resident baseball guru would know Lee Mazzilli. Chris Chambliss is always talked around as a capable managing candidate (with minor league experience). I'm surprised he doesn't get more press.

If an athlete performs at Nelson's level, problems are forgiven. And isn't Murray about one dotted i from being Orioles manager.
