Access Hollywood's 10 Scariest Movies Ever

Recommended Posts

Guest Frank The Tank

10. The Others

9. The Blair Witch Project

8. Carrie

7. Scream

6. An American Warewolf in London

5. The Sixth Sense

4. Psycho

3. The Omen

2. Halloween

1. The Exorcist

That list does suck, no Alien, The Shining, The Thing, Jaws or Evil Dead. The only ones that belong are Carrie, Psycho, Halloween and The Exorcist. As much as I love An American Werewolf In London it's just not scary.

Okay, I should have put second worst list since VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the last 25 years was way worst. Blair Witch was one of the least scary movies I've ever seen.

Blair Witch?!?!

I have a friend who jumps at anything in movies. She jumped several times during freaking X-Men. She can't handle even the slightest amount of suspense and she made it through Blair Witch no problem.

Exorcist will always be the king for the fact that I know people that to this day are still traumatized by it.

For all the grumbling concerning Blair Witch, I enjoyed watching it. I wouldn't put it in this Top 10 list, but some of the hate I have noticed regarding this film is ridiculous (note I'm not calling out anyone on this thread...)

I don't necessarily hate the movie. It was enjoyable but I don't consider it to be a scarey movie.

That's not a bad list, movies like Repulsion and Don't Look Now are supposed to be really scary. I can't believe I forgot ANOES and TCM when I was listing off the horror movies that should be their. I've heard Eraserhead is really fucked up and that could be scary. This list is a 100 times better than Access Hollywood's list.

Psycho has a claim to being #1. You may not personally agree, but no other movie besides maybe Exorcist has had the same effect on pop culture as far as producing mass fear.

I was pissed that the originial Dracula didn't make the list. Watching the movie still gives me the creeps, and it doesn't need alot of blood to scare you.

It really sucks that foreign horror films will never be acknowledged as "the best" from these mainstream outlets, hell I bet An American werewolf in London was just thrown on there so they could say, "look we know about horror, so there"

When you consider the source, that's really not that bad of a list for mainstream horror. It's bloody Access Hollywood, so of course non mainstream stuff won't make the list. Scream is my only gripe about the list, because it's a horror parody.

The MSN list is surprisingly good.

Jaws did that. Nobody wanted to swim... kids were scared to sit on the toilet. TCM had a similar affect, but the audience was a lot smaller.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, I meant mass hysteria in the theater itself.

that's quite a good list right there. brownie points for 'eraserhead', which, though it really isn't scary, is creepy as shit. and 'repulsion' IS the scariest movie ever made.

Man, there's a lot of movies that I really don't like, but The Blair Witch Project is among the elite forces in that category. There wasn't one thing in that movie I can point to and say "Yeah, I'm glad I watched that," or "That was worthwhile."

I've been lost in the woods before..that was nothing new, and never even getting a look at the thing that's killing them did NOT send me home happy.

The only movie on Access Hollywood's list that shouldn't be considered a horror movie, is Scream.

The rest of them fall within some sub genre of horror.

10. The Others: Haunted House

9. The Blair Witch Project: I don't know what genre, but it was designed to frighten and does scare people, so it's a horror movie. If it's not a horror movie, then what exactly would it be?

8. Carrie: Revenge

6. An American Werewolf in London: Werewolf, Duh

5. The Sixth Sense: Supernatural

Once you're older than 14, actually getting scared by a movie is rare. For most horror movies, to remember or to see why a movie is scary you have to think about if it would've scared you as a kid.

I love horror, but It's extremely rare for me to see one that frightens me now. Does that mean they're not horror films. I love zombie films, but they don't scare me usually, so are they horror.
