Nevermortal Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 -Shelley - Jimmy - Hero - Sonjay - Double D - Rave - Storm - Shane - AJ - B Boy - Truth - Whitmer
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 CHRIS SABIN --VS.-- "The Next" ALEX SHELLEY -Alex Shelley has always been my pick to win the whole thing. "Barbaric Berzerker" JIMMY JACOBS --VS.-- SALVATORE RINAURO -PFL's dream match, hehe. Sal's a last minute job boy for the most over guy in the company, but as long as Sal gets to cut a promo I'll be happy. CHRIS HERO --VS.-- "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON -These guys have had a couple of awesome matches in the past. Hero wins, but Cannon gets put over bigtime. "Spyder" NATE WEBB --VS.-- SONJAY DUTT -Tough call, depends on how long Sonjay plans to stay in IWA. I'll go with Nate on a coin flip. DANNY DANIELS --VS.-- "Kamikaze" KEN ANDERSON -Daniels is the champ, so he's gotta win this one. JIMMY RAVE --VS.-- "Classic" COLT CABANA -Colt's not around that much anymore, and Rave had a killer match against Chris Hero last year, so I think they'll want him to advance. JONNY STORM --VS.-- M-DOGG 20 -Yeah, like they're gonna let M-Dogg out of the first round after last year. MICHAEL SHANE --VS.-- JERRY LYNN -Another tough call. Lynn half-asses bigtime in IWA, and this is Shane's first time in the promotion, and he's the X Division champ, so I'll say he wins here. AJ STYLES --VS.-- TODD SEXTON -Should be great, but an easy win for the former NWA champ. JC BAILEY --VS.-- B-BOY -This one's yet another toughie, but since Bailey's Ian's boy and I'm not sure if B-Boy has SoCal commitments later that weekend, I'll go with JC. TRUTH MARTINI --VS.-- NIGEL McGUINNESS -Nigel, because he's gotten over huge in IWA and Martini's injury might make him a liability if he advances. JOSH PROHIBITION --VS.-- BJ WHITMER -The BJ Whitmer Jesus Push in IWA will never, ever end. He's being groomed to replace CM Punk as their franchise player. Plus he won last year, so him going out in Round 1 to one of the Backyard Express ain't gonna happen.
Nevermortal Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 Ok, so that leaves the field with 12 guys. Do they do it Best of the Best style in the later rounds, or do some get a bye?
Garth Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 The final is a 3 way elimination match so it all works out.
Nevermortal Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 In that case, here's my picks for the entire tourney.. ROUND 2 Alex Shelley v. Jimmy Jacobs - Alex Shelley Chris Hero v. Sonjay Dutt - Chris Hero Jimmy Rave v. Danny Daniels - Rave (maybe setting up a Daniels/Rave IWA title match down the line) Johnny Storm v. Michael Shane - Michael Shane AJ Styles v. B-Boy - AJ Styles Truth Martini v. BJ Whitmer - BJ Whitmer ROUND 3 Alex Shelley v. Chris Hero - Alex Shelley Jimmy Rave v. Michael Shane - Jimmy Rave AJ Styles v. BJ Whitmer - BJ Whitmer FINALS Alex Shelley v. Jimmy Rave v. BJ Whitmer - Alex Shelley
Guest OSIcon Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 None of the first round matches really do anything for me. They all look to be booked more along the lines of "Pair up a wrestler who is real likely to advance with a wrestler who isn't" rather then giving any real quality pairings (either angle wise or wrestling wise) in the first round. I am not a fan of the three way final. In addition to the fact that 3 ways just aren't generally as good as singles matches, it seems weird to have a whole tournament of singles matches decided in a three way. If they wanted to use 24 wrestlers to get over how big of a tournament it is, they would have been better off going the Crockett Cup route. Give 8 wrestlers a first round bye leaving 16 guys wrestling in the first round. Eight of those lose and are eliminated. The eight who got byes then wrestle the eight winners and from there on out you have a clean 16-man tournament.
PsychoDriver Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 I'm not sure if B-Boy has SoCal commitments later that weekend, I'll go with JC. Nope, no major shows in SoCal that weekend. Anyway, my round one predictions: CHRIS SABIN --VS.-- "The Next" ALEX SHELLEY "Barbaric Berzerker" JIMMY JACOBS --VS.-- SALVATORE RINAURO CHRIS HERO --VS.-- "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON "Spyder" NATE WEBB --VS.-- SONJAY DUTT (probably wrong but I want Sonjay to win) DANNY DANIELS --VS.-- "Kamikaze" KEN ANDERSON JIMMY RAVE --VS.-- "Classic" COLT CABANA (Very hard one...) JONNY STORM --VS.-- M-DOGG 20 MICHAEL SHANE --VS.-- JERRY LYNN AJ STYLES --VS.-- TODD SEXTON JC BAILEY --VS.-- B-BOY (which would set up B-Boy Vs. Styles!!!) TRUTH MARTINI --VS.-- NIGEL McGUINNESS JOSH PROHIBITION --VS.-- BJ WHITMER
Phoenix Fury Legdrop Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 Dude, screw everything else. SAL...... JIMMY..... RINAURO.... JACOBS.... ROY.... HUSS~! That's going to fucking rock.
Michrome Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 I hate the 3-way finish, and none of the first round matches really do anything for me. However, Jacobs-Shelly, BBoy-Styles, and Hero-Dutt in the second round could all be real good. Final will be: Chris Hero vs. Cabana vs. Styles, and it should be pretty good, but not as good as Styles-Hero would be.
Sandman9000 Posted November 4, 2003 Author Report Posted November 4, 2003 UPDATE AND BUMP~! BJ Whitmer, the defending TPI champ, has pulled out after sustaining an injury vs. Homicide this weekend. Taking his place is Tracy Smothers. I'm guessing Smothers will now face JoshPro in the first round, but who knows. Kinda sucks that the defending champ is out, since there's many storylines you can run off that. I mean, Smothers is God, but that storyline is lost. Just Chris Hero in now in terms of defending champs.
Guest j.o.b. squad Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 sucks that whitmer had to be pulled. my predictions 1st round CHRIS SABIN --VS.-- "The Next" ALEX SHELLEY*** "Barbaric Berzerker" JIMMY JACOBS*** --VS.-- SALVATORE RINAURO CHRIS HERO*** --VS.-- "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON "Spyder" NATE WEBB --VS.-- SONJAY DUTT*** DANNY DANIELS*** --VS.-- "Kamikaze" KEN ANDERSON JIMMY RAVE --VS.-- "Classic" COLT CABANA*** JONNY STORM*** --VS.-- M-DOGG 20 MICHAEL SHANE --VS.-- JERRY LYNN*** AJ STYLES*** --VS.-- TODD SEXTON JC BAILEY --VS.-- B-BOY*** TRUTH MARTINI --VS.-- NIGEL McGUINNESS*** JOSH PROHIBITION --VS-- smothers*** 2nd round JIMMY JACOBS*** Vs ALEX SHELLEY HERO*** Vs. Sandman9000 Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 ANOTHER UPDATE Truth Martini has yet to heal from the neck injury he suffered a few weeks ago and has pulled out. He's being replaced by Brad Bradley. Josh Prohibition broke his ankle wednesday night. He's being replaced by Ian Rotten. UPDATE CARD, FINAL? WHO FRIGGIN' KNOWS? CHRIS SABIN --VS.-- "The Next" ALEX SHELLEY "Barbaric Berzerker" JIMMY JACOBS --VS.-- SALVATORE RINAURO CHRIS HERO --VS.-- "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON "Spyder" NATE WEBB --VS.-- SONJAY DUTT DANNY DANIELS --VS.-- "Kamikaze" KEN ANDERSON JIMMY RAVE --VS.-- "Classic" COLT CABANA JONNY STORM --VS.-- M-DOGG 20 MICHAEL SHANE --VS.-- JERRY LYNN AJ STYLES --VS.-- TODD SEXTON JC BAILEY --VS.-- B-BOY BRAD BRADLEY --VS.-- NIGEL McGUINNESS IAN ROTTEN --VS.-- TRACY SMOTHERS
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Damn, again, this sucks. However, on the bright side, Ian's probably an improvement over JPro in the wrestling department. And on the markish side, I dig Brad Bradley. Watching him kick the everloving shit out of Cody O'Neill at We Are Family was one of my favorite parts of the show.
JustJoe2k5 Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 1st Round: Alex Shelley over Chris Sabin Jimmy Jacobs over Salvatore Rinauro Chris Hero over Arik Cannon Sonjay Dutt over Nate Webb Danny Daniels over Ken Anderson Jimmy Rave over Colt Cabana Jonny Storm over M-Dogg 20 Jerry Lynn over Michael Shane A.J. Styles over Todd Sexton B-Boy over J.C. Bailey Nigel McGuinness over Brad Bradley Tracy Smothers over Ian Rotten 2nd Round: Alex Shelley over Jimmy Jacobs Chris Hero over Sonjay Dutt Jimmy Rave over Danny Daniels Jonny Storm over Jerry Lynn A.J. Styles over B-Boy Nigel McGuinness over Tracy Smothers Semi-Finals: Chris Hero over Alex Shelley Jonny Storm over Jimmy Rave A.J. Styles over Nigel McGuinness Finals: A.J. Styles over Chris Hero and Jonny Storm
Sandman9000 Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 I think what we're failing to take into account is that the brackets will be switched up after the first round. I can't see IWA running Shelley/Jacobs in the second round. My picks: Shelley d. Sabin Jacobs d. Sal Hero d. Cannon Sonjay d. Webb Daniels d. Anderson Rave d. Cabana Storm d. M-Dogg20 Shane d. Lynn Styles d. Sexton B-Boy d. Bailey McGuinness d. Bradley Smothers d. Rotten This leaves us with Alex Shelley, Hussboy, Hero, Dance Sonjay Dance, IWA Heavyweight Champ, Rave, Storm, RHK, AJ, B-Boy, Nigel, and the Wild Eyed Southern Boy. I'm just fantasy booking at this point, but who knows Second Round Alex Shelley d. Nigel McGuiness Jimmy Rave d. Tracy Smothers Chris Hero d. Jonny Storm B-Boy d. Michael Shane Danny Daniels d. Sonjay Dutt Jimmy Jacobs d. AJ Styles Third Round Alex Shelley d. Jimmy Rave Chris Hero d. B-Boy Jimmy Jacobs d. Danny Daniels Final Alex Shelley d. Chris Hero & Jimmy Jacobs
Sandman9000 Posted November 7, 2003 Author Report Posted November 7, 2003 Booked but cancelled: Trent Acid Truth Martini Josh Prohibition Homicide Ace Steel Matt Stryker BJ Whitmer Dino Bambino Could have a pretty good tourny with those guys in themselves.
Guest TonyJaymzV1 Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I'll just do fantasy booking for the 1st round CHRIS SABIN --VS.-- "The Next" ALEX SHELLEY-SABIN "Barbaric Berzerker" JIMMY JACOBS --VS.-- SALVATORE RINAURO-Hussboy CHRIS HERO --VS.-- "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON-Hero "Spyder" NATE WEBB --VS.-- SONJAY DUTT-Dutt DANNY DANIELS --VS.-- "Kamikaze" KEN ANDERSON- Anderson JIMMY RAVE --VS.-- "Classic" COLT CABANA-Rave JONNY STORM --VS.-- M-DOGG 20-Storm MICHAEL SHANE --VS.-- JERRY LYNN-Lynn AJ STYLES --VS.-- TODD SEXTON -Styles "2 Hardcore 4 a Gimmick" JC BAILEY --VS.-- "The New Age Punisher" B-BOY-B-Boy BRAD BRADLEY --VS.-- NIGEL McGUINNESS-Nigel "The King of Hardcore" IAN ROTTEN --VS.-- "Wild Eyed Southern Boy" TRACY SMOTHERS-Smothers
JustJoe2k5 Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 My guess is after A.J. Styles' great performance at the 2002 Ted Petty Invitational, he'll go at least to the finals if not win the whole tournament.
Cuban Linx Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I can't be bothered trying to predict the whole tournamnet, so i'll just go with the prediction of Alex Shelley defeating Jimmy Jacobs and AJ Styles in the finals, unless they stick with the first round brackets the whole way through, where it'd be either Daniels or Hero instead of Jacobs in the finals.
