Michrome Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 The 2 most over guys on Smackdown! are John Cena and Eddy Guerrero. Guerrero is a babyface that acts like a heel, and Cena is a heel that's so funny that the fans love him. My gosh, this sounds really familiar. Austin and Rock anyone? There was a time, a few years ago, where the WWE would take the hottest character and shoot him to the moon, and it would make him a superstar. Kurt Angle is not over as a babyface. Brock Lesnar isnt really over as a heel anymore. These guys are stale. Give me Cena-Angle (with switched heel and face roles) and Guerrero-Lesnar at Wrestlemania, those 2 matches will draw the best. The build to WM 21 between Cena and Guerrero could be what brings business back. Nobody wants to see Lesnar-Angle 325 at Wrestlemania XX. Please don't do it.
Guest Corino 1000 Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 I wish that would happen but Vince is to obbsesed with "Entertainment".

I don't know if they're the two most OVER superstars, Undertaker, Kurt Angle and Vince get pretty big reactions when they come out ('taker getting the most). But they certainly are the two top superstars with the brightest future, and there's no reason to make them some of the top dogs in the federation. It looks like they're building to that, but hopefully they won't stop here.
Jobber of the Week Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Am I the only one who wish they did more Los Guererros skits. I know at the time we were afraid of them overdoing them, but something about Eddy ripping someone off to the Adult Swim theme song makes me laugh hard.
Guest Nanks Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Ummm, didn't we just see Cena/Guerrero??
Michrome Posted November 1, 2003 Author Report Posted November 1, 2003 Not really, they did a parking lot brawl and that's it, and they had no depth to the feud. I think they cut it off without a blowoff cause they see money in it down the line.
Fökai Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 I understand if you're bitching about someone being under/overused... BUT... you're reaching for straws when you're complaining about a certain feud/program not happening.
Guest Anglesault Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 The 2 most over guys on Smackdown! are John Cena and Eddy Guerrero. Except for the guys that are more over.
SamoaRowe Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 Eddie Guerrero and John Cena are AMONG the most over performers on Smackdown. Angle, 'Taker, and even Brock Lesnar are probably about equal with them in overness. The difference is that we're not used to Cena and Guerrero main eventing.
Michrome Posted November 1, 2003 Author Report Posted November 1, 2003 The difference is that these guys are over without a push to the top, video packages, main events, big feuds, and all of the glitz and hype that the "real" main eventers get. If Eddy got half the push Taker does, he'd be that much more over.
RavishingRickRudo Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 Yeah, they've really held back that Cena feller.
Guest Anglesault Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 The difference is that these guys are over without a push to the top, video packages, main events, big feuds, and all of the glitz and hype that the "real" main eventers get. And the "main eventers" (Brock, Angle) are more over despite constantly being booked as the second tier ME and, in Angle's case, periodically being dropped to a stupid, bad comedy based midcard feud every several months.
RavishingRickRudo Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 When you think about it, Cena has used almost every formula to get over... - Customized Entrance (NAO) - Hand Gestures - Crowd Participation - He curses a lot - Lots of catch phrases You know, everything aside from actual ring work. So for you aspiring wrestlers out there, or those stuck in Terminal Velocity, take note.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 Actually, Cena's the only guy I can think of that has ever had a 'style' of wrestling invented out of the air by the office to put him over. You know what I'm talking about.

RavishingRickRudo Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 Does it rhyme with Sound and Mound? HHH's "smashmouth" style was before PnG..
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 Oh, that was cold, 'Sault. Actually, I wasn't thinking of 'ground and pound'. I would have thought that me saying 'style' would have given it away. You know, it has an acronym that also spells the slang word for a body part?
Lil' Bitch Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 Not really, they did a parking lot brawl and that's it They also fought on January 30th this year and on the SD after SummerSlam (El Paso show)

SinToxic Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 Cena is over thanks to the rap music that's so over in the U.S.. A wrestler nowadays is more over with a rapper/gangsta/dancer gimmick than with an occult/gothic gimmick and that's only because of the mainstream push and in may ways this overshadows some truth in wrestling. Cena (as well as Rikishi and Scotty) is so loved for his mic skills that people don't even notice how behind his wrestling game is. So yeah in few years he will be like The Rock, fighting the safe wrestling style that ensures longevity but doesnt ever make people say WOW!!!. For the time being I rather dream about Benoit's, Eddie's and Dragon's push, let Cena become so good as a wrestler that people who dislike rap would watch him for his in-ring skills alone.
AndrewTS Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 Push a wrestling angle with 2 wrestlers? Yeah, right.

Guest Megatron Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 I don't get SD! where I live, but I do like Cena whenever I see a SD! PPV. He is entertaining to me. I don't know how big he really is, but I think he's got a great look and he seems like he will be a future World winner. Even though I don't get to see him on a regular basis, I'd be all for him getting a mega-push instead of that little faggot, Orton. And as for Eddie, I see him getting treated in the same way as RVD and Booker T. All 3 are mega over. All 3 should have been World holders when lightening was striking. However in Eddie's case, the iron is still hot. But anyway, I don't see Eddie ever getting the big belt. Just like guys like Perfect or Dibiase should have won it years ago, they just never did because of a number of reasons (politics, Vince). While I think Eddie deserves it, I don't think it will happen. But I do see it happening with Cena within the next 2 years.
LooseCannon25 Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 I see Eddie making runs at the title but never winning it like Benoit, but Cena I DO see winning it within the next 2 or 3 years.
Guest Anglesault Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 I see Eddie making runs at the title but never winning it like Benoit, but Cena I DO see winning it within the next 2 or 3 years. I see Eddy winning, not Benoit though
2GOLD Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 I like Cena but he could improve his damn moveset though. Like eliminating that stupid 10 minute headlock he does because that is a very annoying move. But you look at Cena and he may be involved in some of the quickest feuds in the WWE. His Angle feud lasted a month Eddie feud, about a month A-Train, it'll last about a month Undertaker, it lasted about two months and he lost the PPV matches only to win the secondary SD! tag and single match to end the feud. Has Cena WON a non-tag match while in a feud other than that last Undertaker match?

Well, considering that 90% of the feuds in the 'E' are short-term feuds, this shouldn't be surprising at all Save for the CLASSIC RIVALRY THAT CAN NEVER DIE that is Torrie vs. Dawn
2GOLD Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 This is true, short feuds shouldn't be shocking. And they probably wouldn't be if Cena ever won a feud he was in. How can they keep trying to sell Cena when the guy never wins a feud? The gimmick is he talks trash, and then loses every feud? And this builds him up how? Cena won the Taker feud off PPV so most people probably don't even consider his win a big deal. Has Cena won a PPV match ever? I can't remember.
