A Guy Who Injects Heroin Into Kids' Eyes Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 This game is like a heroin addiction. It frustratingly difficult at times, utterly ridiculous at others and I can't stop playing. All I can think about at work is this, at least until Monday when I get HCTP, and how to get the XP I need for my professions, and what professions I want. Right now I have a Wookie running around Tatooine on Shadowfire and a Human running around Naboo on Lowca
Anakin Flair Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 I owuld have bout it, but my internet connection doesn't make it worth the money. Nor do I feel like sheeling out money every month for a game that I wouldn't be playing all the time due to school, work, etc.
Guest Ahhee Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 I beta tested this game and played (reluctantly) for 2 months after launch. Do yourself a favor and cancel your subscription at least until the space expansion comes out. I wanted this to be the best game ever and even though it was released way unfinished I still subscribed on good faith that unresolved problems from Beta 3 would be handled within a month or two from release. Sadly this isn't the case and it seems in the classic sense of MMO games when the developers fix one thing, they break two others. Let me tell you how fun it was to zone in somewhere from a shuttleport, waiting for your comp to load the graphics, then coming in at the clone facility to see "AT-ST has shot you for 1100 pts of damage." Stupid me for taking the shuttle when overt? Sure, it only took me one try to figure that out .. (hot water burn baby) but what I'm really getting at in all the PvP I ever did I only ONCE died to an actual player and I died a lot. 99% of the time I was PK'd it was by an AT-ST, dark trooper pet or a freaking Rancor-type pet named (CHARLEY) PvE wasn't as bad but my profession, Bounty Hunter was too buggy for a release. My usual play time consisted of, jetting to a BH mission terminal. Getting a mission, running across town to the informant, running back to the shuttle .. oh shit I just missed the shuttle, let me sit here 10 minutes for the next one. Shuttle to where my target is, run 5 mins to the target to find out he is unattackable and I have no choice but to cancel the mission and start the whole cycle over, meanwhile I'm out 500+ creds (on the easiest missions) and 15-30 mins. Sooo, if you were thinking of going for BH, don't do it anytime soon, the previous example was the tip of the iceberg. Most elite professions are broken and will continue to be for some time. I really really wish this game would've been done right. There really are a lot of great features that set it apart from other MMO's. The skill trees are excellent as well as the apprenticeship system. Theme park quests, while very basic 'run here and kill/fetch' are fun if for no other reason than you are taking missions from C3PO or Princess Leia. Group sizes of up to 20 is nice and once it's properly tuned and balanced, I'm sure pvp will be a blast. It can be fun already but it's too pet dominated for my liking. It'll be a good game, possibly even a great game in 6 - 9 months, but right now it sucks ass, just like Anarchy Online did when it first came out.
Blue Bacchus Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 There's an easier way of doing Bounty Hunter now. The SpyNet informants are usually right next to the terminals now. SWG is incredibly addictive. And to wait till Space comes out would be folly. You won't be able to afford a decent ship if you start with Space. Best to get in now and start that bank roll going. I play on Starsider and Test Center.
Guest Ahhee Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 I grinded out assloads of missions at Coronet having the informant and terminal within clicking distance of each other, it still doesn't make it any easier when your mark is still a white dot, or stuck inside world geometry when you get to it. I understand your point about not being able to afford a ship when space comes out. I just don't think it's worth my 14.99/mo to pay for the game in it's current state. Gauging how much progress the SWG team has made from Beta 3 to a week ago when my subscription ended I don't suspect this game will be worth a crap to me as a paying customer for some time.
Blue Bacchus Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 I fully understand your point but there are other combat professions you can choose from If you think BH is hard wait till Jedi I myself chose BH and that only lasted two weeks after grinding Investigation II. BH is the hardest profession.
Guest Ahhee Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 Tell me how camping those Holocrons go .. here's to hoping you don't get told to master Bio-Engineer or Image Designer.
Blue Bacchus Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 I fully believe that the Holocrons are red herrings. I'll unlock my FSCS on my own 12 years down the road
Lil' Bitch Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 My interest in this game died as soon as I found out you couldn't play as a Jawa.
Blue Bacchus Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 While it would be fun playing as a Jawa in a roleplaying sense you could never leave Tatooine. Being a Tusken Raider (or to the laypeople Sand Person) would be much more fun!
Guest Ahhee Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 Heh, I can't tell you how much fun it was to come flying around the corner deep in Fort Tusken dressed up in full Tusken Raider gear. There's always some poor doctor in the back that immediately pops up to their feet and thinks 'Damn him!'
Jobber of the Week Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 My interest in this game died as soon as I found out you couldn't play as a Jawa. You should be able to hire them to sell your shit ala UO. Was a beta for this game. Hated the experience, will never buy it.
dubq Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 So apparenly the game received a major overhaul last year with the release of the Starter Kit. I'm extremely bored with WoW and am looking to switch to SWG. Anyone else play the new version and can offer any recommendations?
GeneMean Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Download the trial version of SWG and try it out but you'll quickly see that they actually made the game WORSE than it's original release. WoW's much needed x-pack is hopefully due around Thanksgiving so if nothing else it'll give you something to do until then.
dubq Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Wow.. I downloaded the demo and while it's not too bad, I don't think I can warrant purchasing this game and spending much time on it. It is very slow and clunky and the interface is just... wierd.
