Flair to RVD: How about a Figure Four?

Recommended Posts

from a 411 column about the Figure Four:

The most hilarious moment involving the move has to be back when Ric Flair was a face and co-owner of the WWE, talking with Rob Van Dam before an important match. Flair asks RVD “Have you ever thought of adding a figure-four as a finisher?” Rob’s answer, after a long pause: “No.” The look on Flair’s face was priceless.

Does anyone know what episode that was? Thanks in advance.

it was leading to the Rumble 2002, but this was in December.

In the main event later (RVD vs. Jericho), RVD applied a Figure 4, while Flair did the same to Vince. It was pretty cool.

RVD and Jericho should've feuded for the belt until the Rumble

Of course they should have, but WWE was in panic mode and went the easy route of dumping titles, rather than actually putting some planning together that could have built it to something meaningful.

Aww yes. The Jericho/RVD feud that looked like it was going to take off then RVD got dropped for the Rock and then Triple H came back and burried RVD in the rumble. Good times...

And I think this was the Raw

December 17, 2001: Hardcore Champion, The Undertaker, defeated Jeff Hardy...World Tag Team Champions, The Dudley Boyz, defeated Scotty Too Hotty and Albert...European Champion, Christian, defeated Tazz...Lance Storm defeated The Rock via Count-Out...Kurt Angle and Test defeated Edge and Rikishi...Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo defeated The Big Show and Tajiri...Rob Van Dam defeated WWE/WCW World Champion, Chris Jericho, via Disqualification.

Didn't they have a very small feud during the Invasion? I remember on one of the PPV's the crowd was torn between and two the mix of "Y2J" and "RVD" chants were loud.

I don't actually think so. RVD first arrived and basically made Jericho his bitch in numerous matches over the hardcore title. Wasn't really a feud though. Then they had a brief world title semi feud mentioned above. They also fought at KOTR 2002 and then for the IC a few times since (ending with Raw recently) but I don't think they've ever had a real extended feud.

Even though Jericho actually has won a world title I'd say RVD has mostly stomped him.

Wasn't that the period when Lance Storm wanted a contract, and got beaten by a few people before beating The Rock. I know is was a count out, but The Big Show beat Storm in VERY short time before that particular match.

slightly off topic but with very much the same objective - anybody know the epidosde of RAW (and location of a *.mpg) where Goldust informed Big Show that he was his father as Darth Vader?

It's time....to play....SEMANTICS!!!

It wasn't the WWE at the time! And the other day, I saw one that said "WWE Champion Billy Graham" or some stupid shit like that. FUCK I hate that.

They have never really feuded. They did some build up for Unforgiven 2001, but it was more Y2J/Steph than Y2J/RVD.

They should make a DVD of Booker and Goldust during spring/summer of 2002. Comedic gold.

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

RVD and Jericho were going to feud at the beggining of 2002, but then they realized the all-mighty Triple Jesus would come back at the rumble and dumped RVD.
