R. Kelly Career Thrives Despite Kid Porn Charge

Ron Isley says that his relationship with musical collaborator-friend R. Kelly "isn't strained at all," and that "Robert is like a son to me. At all times I've given him advice," declares the veteran crooner.

Kelly is due back in court in his home town of Chicago on Dec. 1, to be tried on 21 counts of child pornography charges stemming from an alleged videotaped sexual encounter with a girl who was identified as being 14 years old at the time the tape was made. In Miami, Kelly is facing an additional 12 child pornography charges stemming from photos found on a camera belonging to Kelly during a search of his Florida home.

Kelly maintains his innocence and that he is not the man depicted in the videotapes. The Florida case is still being investigated.

However, Kelly's career has yet to be affected by his legal woes.

His "Chocolate Factory" CD debuted at No.1 on the Billboard charts, selling more than half a million copies in its first week. Back in May, his handprint on the Isley Brothers, "Body Kiss," gave them their first No. 1 album in over 30 years.

Kelly's even been touring to promote his latest CD. Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan allowed him to hit the road and do a month's worth of concert dates. Next week his collaboration with Michael Jackson, "One More Chance," hits radio stations and he's even working with American Idol Ruben Studdard on Studdard's debut CD, due out later this year.

However, Kelly's musical future beyond Dec. 1 is uncertain to say the least, as he faces up to 15 years in prison if he's found guilty.

He can get jail time and the fucker would still have a top selling album.

It's only a matter of time until R. Kelly: Live from *insert name of prison* is a #1 album.

Like Dave Chapelle said, R. Kelly's music is scandal proof. I don't think there's many fans of his type of stuff around here, but yeah, he's really really good, enough to survive something like that. Not quite Prince, but demiPrince maybe.

Yeah because then we can get stupid "Free R. Kelly" shirts in the same vain as "Free Yayo" shirts. I wanna find some way to get a "Fry Yayo" shirt in the same vain as kkktookmybabyaway's avatar.

First time I saw a "Free Yayo" shirt, I thought the guy was offering free cocaine. Turns out I was wrong. And R Kelly is no more "overly saccharine bullshit" than John Mayer.

What do you expect when MTV and BET puts his videos in heavy rotation? The new sound of R. Kelly has the beats that nobody can resist.

I liked him in his "Your Body's Callin" days. Once he sold out by doing a song for fuckin "Space Jam" of all things, I stopped even trying to listen.

That's funny since his older stuff is way better than his current work. I'll always be a fan of R. Kelly and it doesn't really surprise me that his sales are doing just as well.

He's probably the only man who could go to prison on a "kid porn" (though 14 is towing the line to me, I think of kid porn as under-12) and become more popular

Any normal joe gets send to prison on kiddy porn and it's guaranteed shower sodomy for life

Yeah—that must've been why you left him in that desert to die, you rotten son of a bitch.

Very true. I don't think I'm the only one who feels that "Feelin' On Yo' Booty" is not half the man "Half On a Baby" is.

EDIT: I put a hidden treat in that last sentence for all the good people out there.

EDIT: Okay, I didn't see it at first, but I realized it when I read the whole thing over to laugh at how funny I am.

EDIT: The third time I read it.

EDIT: Okay, the seventh.
