BifEverchad 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 Tomorrow I have to do a 5-10 minute presentation on a topic of my choice for one of my classes at College. It doesnt have to be anything big, or elabroate, so thats why I've been putting it off and putting it off until today. I wanted to get some other things out of the way, so I could chill and do this the day before it's due. So anyways, I figure I want to do it on the WWE. Its something I know, something I'm familar with and something I can ramble on about moreso than any other topic I choose. The main thing with this is, I want to talk about the WWE in a way, so I can present it in a more respectable fashion. I know if I get up there, and talk about 'wrestling', most people are gonna yawn or grunt and say 'oh my..'. so I want to try and give it soem credibility with the average Joe and talk more about the overall scheme of things; the business, the revenues, the actual facts and figures, along with the history. I just don't wanna get up there and talk about 'wrestling', so people just think its a bunch of guys in tights, faking punching and kicking each other. So with that being said, I'm asking any of you guys to help me out as I prepare this. I'm looking for some distinct facts, and figures about the company that I can include in my speech. For example, - When was it started? - When did Vince take over as sole promotor? - When did the name get changed from WWWF to just, WWF. - When did the name get changed from WWF to, WWE and why? - Vince's assets, such as; Titan Towers (or whatever its called now, if not.), the company Jet, etc - How many PPV's hav they produced to date? - What's the net worth of the WWE? - Average revenue from merchandise per year? Also, there is a quote from "Beyond the Mat" that Barry Blaustein said regarding the value of the WWF, saying its worth more than the Mets, Rangers and the Knicks combined? Can anyone remember that? So, anything along those lines, or anything else would be great. I'm gonna start doing some small research now about this. But if anyone can lend a helping hand with any of this, I'd appreciate it. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 WWE sucks. It has very little redeeming value. Be ashamed of it. Base your presentation round that.
Guest Megatron Report post Posted November 11, 2003 You waited until the last minute to try and come up with that information? Good luck with some of it. You might be able to find the financial stuff in their quarterly statements.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 When did the name get changed from WWF to, WWE and why? May 2002- they were forced to by a British court cause of the World Wildlife Fund. - How many PPV's hav they produced to date? 1+1+2+3+4+4+5+4+5+5+10+12+12+12+12+12+12+12+10=a big number btw: that's not counting the WBF PPV or the Brit PPVs or the No Holds Barred PPV

LMAO...that's funny. As for all your corporate/financial information needed, go to http://corporate.wwe.com/. That's their stockholder/business site.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Report post Posted November 11, 2003 People will be bored with facts designed to legitimate your interest in pro wrestling. I say take one part of it and teach your class something you think they would never know about wrestling.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 Don't just talk about it as Pro. Wrestling. Don't get up there and start talking about when it started, or other stuff that other people who aren't fans will hear it and go "this is bull shit". Don't present it as if you actually think they give a fuck what you are talking about, because odds are, they don't give a shit. If my mind was made up to talk about Pro. Wrestling, I'd still go through with it though, but I'd look at it from a different angle. Try to look at it through the eyes of the non-fans. Look at it understanding why SOME of those people used to be a fan, but gave up on the industry. Try to look at it, as you did, before YOU were a fan. Take bits and pieces of that, and work from there. Think of the reasons why they DON'T give a shit, and try to find a way to say what you want to say, in a way that they'll find interesting. How does that sound? If you really want to start off on a good foot, just start your speech by admiting what they all believe about the industry... ...yes everyone, Pro. Wrestling is fake. It's fake, but it's all too real.

You want to ramble on about something you want to make "respectable"? Do yourself a favour and just stick to ONE wrestler per se. 5-10 minutes isn't worth the effort you're going to put into the research.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 12, 2003 As a former Speech and Debate SUPERSTAR...I used to do Impromptu quite frequently. The best thing to do is simply go over the company history and touch about the social impact that it's has had.
