CM Punk v. Raven

Recommended Posts

I'd rather not see it for at least a while because I'm really liking this slow burn they're putting on the feud now. The fact that Raven chose a known drunk over his Straight-Edge follower is a GREAT touch, and I hope they play up that fact.

I really dont see them bringing up the straight-edge thing in TNA.

Yeah, might be too high-brow for Nashville or Memphis or wherever the hell they run from.

Jeff Jarrett:"What the hayell's Straight Edge? Does it refer to mah geetar bein' pointed own the handle?

The Straight Edge gig would get him over as a major heel. Remember when Jarrett (as a face) cut the promo on Raven running him down for being a drunk and a drug addict unworthy of holding a World Championship, and people cheered? There you go.

That said, I'm REALLY hoping that Tommy Dreamer gets released in the near future, or even Steven Richards. A revitalized ECW feud done in TNA with one of the two guys Raven helped make famous, with Raven as the face in it all, could lead to some great brawls and angles.

I think a throwback to ecw is the LAST thing TNA needs. It'll make them seem like a bush league company trying to recreate someone elses magic. They need to focus on making their own mark with new ideas and innovative angles. That being said, I would like a CM Punk Raven feud, but without Straight Edge being a part of it, because that's been done to death. Make it a "I idolized you and you shunned me, and know I know you're a peice of trash" feud. Or something. Maybe have punk turn into the new raven and have HIM make a gathering to take out raven.

I really wanted Raven to pick Julio to be his partner this week. The problem with Raven vs. Punk in TNA is that Julio is still floating around. Now...I like Julio...but he's out of place now. Although...I can see Punk destroying Julio en route to Raven at some point.

Unless Raven and Dutch really want to work everyone into just thinking that Punk and Raven are on a collision course...they sure are making it seem ineviteble the last couple weeks.

But...wouldn't anyone else like to see Punk do something different?

I sure would, because I'm curious to see if Punk can work a gimmick other than that. From the ROH and IWA footage I have, he's used the same character (though granted I don't have nearly enough of his IWA stuff to make a good judgment on that).

A different high-profile feud could either establish him as a long-term major player, or a one-dimensional fad that'll burn out eventually.

A cool twist, rather than the Straight Edge thing (which could possibly be used sparringly in relation to the angle) could be Punk idolizing Raven as had been said, and then turning on him. Then Punk can cut promo's about how Raven now has to battle "himself", talking about how he has become Raven's worst enemy by becoming just like Raven himself. Say that all that Punk once believed in went out the window when Raven took him in, but now it's time to fly the coop. Then let Punk go on a tear, taking out some expendable babyfaces in similar fashion as to how Raven has handled The New Church (bloody them, hang them, etc.). Imagine the philosophical promos they could cut on each other. A feud like that would be a winner, IMO.

Without Raven Julio is leaderless, so Punk takes up the mantle. Remember at the first anniversery show when punk cut a promo with Alexis and Julio saying there will always be a gathering? Just change the leader. Punk is in and Raven is out. This pisses raven off a bit, so after being screwed by Jarrett he trys to reform his crew, but they are over him, (maybe with a new member) and with Punk. This kickes off a feud with Raven saying "you betrayed me" and Punk saying "I'm a better leader than you ever were." Plus you have Julio stuck in the middle.

I'd also like to say that when I think of Raven and Punk...I think about what it means to HAVE MIC SKILLS.

Here's what I mean: Raven and Father Mitchell carried a whole long program based on their ability to cut promos. Raven feuded with Douglas/Mitchell/Slash/Sinn/Vampiro for MONTHS and it was always over.

Same goes for Punk's amazing promos in RoH during the Raven feud.

Compare that to the WWE, where you supposedly need mic skills to get pushed...but the writers write such shitty promos that it doesn't matter. It irritates me that RVD can't get pushed because he "can't talk" when the WWE never has feuds based on strong from the heart mic work anyway.

Okay, the whole jarrett thing is moot as we know he isnt going to job to raven for the title. In fact I don't see Raven working as champ. But the thing is, Raven loses, then has a semi breakdown, realizing he always has needed backup, but that's gone. So he tries to get it back by taking Punk out, but the gathering is more loyal to Punk than Raven. Thus Raven is alienated even more and is left with Jarrett to goad him, Punk to take on, plus guys like Aj and Daniels to go at it with. This also launches Punk into the stratusphere if done right.

No kidding, bps. Raven is also one of those guys who, when he hangs up the trunks, I'd LOVE to see in the booth. Imagine Raven as an objective commentator, putting matches over. That'd be a tremendous asset, and something better to look forward to than Jerry "Puppies" Lawler".

If that's the case, then why is it that the prediction about AJ losing the title to Jarrett after looking like a weak Champion for so long came true?

Believe me, Jarrett is probably thinking about killing Punk's and/or Raven's heat before a Punk/Raven feud is even started, and then the crowd won't care because of it and then Dutch will figure out a way to make the feud suck even more.

How the hell would you know that? Do you know JJ personally? Are you one of the elusive "insiders"? Give me a break. There is a difference between suspecting something and Knowing it. I just find it stupid people think they know everything that goes through bookers or wrestlers minds.

How did Styles get that belt in the first place again?

Because the crowd started turning on the babyface champ. Fans were leaving TNA towards the end of Jarrett's first reign, so they had no choice but to put the title on AJ or Raven.

And because they wanted to keep Jarrett a face, AJ turns heel the second he wins the title, keeping Jarrett's Nashville heat from diminishing.

Regardless of the consequences, AJ Styles can forever state that he was NWA World Champion. As far as CM Punk/Raven goes, I really like the sXe idea. That would definitly get CM Punk some major heat (which is a GOOD thing, remember?) and it would be hard to screw the feud up. With Raven's creative control, I think the feud would make TNA "must see" again.

It would? Havent we already seen the feud since March? Why is it must see because now TNA is doing it 8 months after everyone else?

A whole lot better? That means it'll likely get stale quicker. CM PUNK GETS THE RED SHIRT SECURITY TO ATTACK RAVEN! OMG~! RAVEN AND THE BLACK SHIRT SECURITY RETALIATE! WHATS THIS? IT'S JULIO BRINGING DOWN THE NEW YELLOW SHIRT SECURITY!
