Styles 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 TNA shot an angle today on the John Boy & Billy radio show. Jimmy Hart was a guest on the show, hyping the upcoming Hulk Hogan/Jeff Jarrett TNA match. Jarrett showed up as a "surprise" and started arguing with Hart and Jeff Pillars. He ended up attacking Pillars. Cameras taped all of this so it should air on TNA TV, probably this Wednesday. eirejmcmahon 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 That's a little disingenuous Bryan, I think it's a mistep to try and replicate the recent stunt with Hogan on such a small scale (attacking the host on some radio show that I doubt anyone's actually heard of) and then to promote it as a "Huge Altercation". eirejmcmahon 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 According to Meltzer they've (NWATNA) been sponsoring the program in question for some time now. I have to hold my hands up and admit that I don't listen to the radio much so could someone tell me if this is a big show ? Are the hosts famous ? Any idea what the listenership figures are ? The JJ/Hogan feud already feels like the wheels are spinning and to replicate the initial angle so soon.....

That's what wrestling's about - giving the illusion that what you're seeing is real and bigger than it really is. I've heard of the show, and I don't get it where I live. I'm very sure that the people that live in the city the show is in are familliar with the show, so don't look down on it just because you haven't heard of it. Styles 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 For MONTHS we complained (and rightly so) that TNA did NO advertising. This is advertising. Silly Brian, don't try using logic. Don't you understand TNA can do no right, unless Raven get's a 1 hour soliloqy and Cm Punk is given the world title? How dare Jarrett try to develop even localized mainstream interest in TNA and, *gasp* actually make it out to be a big deal! What an egomaniac! He just wants TNA to suceed so he can increase his salary and hold down Julio Dinero. FUCK JARRETT!

Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Just to throw out some details on this radio show. The John Boy and Billy Big Show is a radio show that's big in the South. They cater mostly to the "redneck" crowd with numerous Nascar Drivers and Wrestlers as their guests. They're not strangers to NWA:TNA, as I know Don West appears on their shows on some Wednesdays to talk about the upcoming PPV. Jimmy Hart v Mancow churned out untold millions of dollars, no doubt. -=Mike ...IS Russo still writing?
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted November 18, 2003 For MONTHS we complained (and rightly so) that TNA did NO advertising. This is advertising. This is similar to WCW having Jimmy Hart challenging radio DJ's to matches during 2000. It's ridiculued because it NEVER works. Ever. By "advertising", we mean HYPE your show on a SHOW that your fans WATCH. A radio comedy show is NOT the way to do it. Heck, WWE has guys on Howard Stern. Have they tried to start an angle ON the show? NOBODY cares. They never will. -=Mike

He just wants TNA to suceed so he can increase his salary and hold down Julio Dinero. FUCK JARRETT! The problem is that it's Jeff Jarrett, and if you're trying to get mainstream fans to watch, these are the same fans that will forever see him as Honky Tonk Man II. He has said so on many occasions, and I'm sure you knew that by speaking in such an educated fashion about it. AS a long time listener of Stern, he has said many times that the WWE has tried to do things with him, and he's come very close to doing it.

Until an angle actually starts on the Stern show, you might have a point. If they do it, it'll show the WWE is just as moronic as WCW and TNA. I always thought Stern didn't really give two darns about wrestling. He just had the WWE guys on because they were names --- or in Playboy. -=Mike
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted November 19, 2003 And what angle is he promoting again? The one angle they have with a name that people DO know? And it makes them more bush-league than they ALREADY look. This has NEVER worked. Ever. And money is on it not working THIS time, either. Doing something with 20 million people listening is a good idea... They'll probably get a number of extra buys from it... That's what all those shows do - they don't care about the guests, just ratings. Like the other guy said - they're furthering the angle on the radio, not booking it on the radio. Why would doing something with Stern be moronic? Do you have any idea how many listeners he has? Do you have any idea how many listeners Opie and Anthony had when they were in big time with the WWF in the late 90's?
