Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 First, let's establish the premise You and every other two-bit anime elitist I've ever met Y'know, calling somenoe ELSE an elitist just because they disagreed with an opinion on a videogame is pretty ironic. -Duo Usually, I'd consider someone who sterotypes another person to be an elitist, but maybe that's just me. Do you even know what an elitist is? Your usage of the word in your post-sig indicates that, in fact, you apparently do not Let me reference two of your previous posts I don't like virtual flesh- I like FFX, and I like FFX-2. And once again, while I'm not denying there's marketing reasons to it, IT STILL MAKES SENSE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE STORY. It really, really seems like all of you played through FFX (or maybe didn't even do that), looked at pictures of what she looked like in FFX and what she looks like now in FFX-2, and then came up with their little conclusion. Without even playing FFX-2, mind you. As Sakura said, she's still very much the same character. If you, you know, PLAYED FFX-2 before coming to your retarded conclusions, you might understand that. But hey, why play it when we can irrationally bash it instead, right? -Duo Duo's sad because all the anime has deprived him of the ability to larf I can laugh just fine, but I don't see why there's any point to laughing when people are mocking something I enjoy. And Renegade, I disagree. They are mocking the game in general, not just the fact that there's fanservice there. I'm perfectly allowed to defend the fact that Yuna's change of clothes make perfect sense in the context of the story, because they do. It's not just a marketing techinque that makes absolutley no sense, as some are suggesting. -Duo - Responds to fairly mild wisecracks with hostility - Goes into in-depth explanation about how said wisecrack is TOTALLY wrong - In general, just being all around tightass - Later denies being elitist with regards to this behavior That's fairly elitist behavior if I ever did see it Litmus test time: "Dragon Ball Z is the greatest anime ever made" Respond
Anya 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 why must the english translations be so...corny? 'Potshot'? 'Bum Rush'? Um.... "Bum Rush" is probably a reference to FF VI. Sabin had a blitz called that.
Guest Kamui Report post Posted November 24, 2003 First, let's establish the premise. Let's do that. Do you even know what an elitist is? Your usage of the word in your post-sig indicates that, in fact, you apparently do not. I know what the word "elitist" means- you're just hung-up on the "anime elitist" context. I used it just fine in the post-sig. Let me reference two of your previous posts. Okay, but do you always have to announce what you're going to do before you do it? Just saying. - Responds to fairly mild wisecracks with hostility You call THAT hostility? Around these parts, I call that "fairly tame". Just trying to fit in with the general atmosphere, really. - Goes into in-depth explanation about how said wisecrack is TOTALLY wrong Oh, right, so having a point and defending it makes me an elitist. That's one really loose definition of "elitist" you have there- by that definition, about 75% of our population are elitists of some sort. - In general, just being all around tightass Again, defending something isn't being a tightass. I love how people make this point but it suddenly doesn't come into play when it's something THEY like that's being mocked. I simply took the point and said why it wasn't true. I don't care if they were kidding or not. Again, you're making a big deal out of nothing. - Later denies being elitist with regards to this behavior Now we're bordering on Salem Witch Trial-levels of idiocy. "Well, if they SAY they're not an elitist, then they must be an elitist!" What do you expect me to say? "Yes, I am an elitist."? I don't view myself as one, so I'm going to deny being an elitist. There you go. That's fairly elitist behavior if I ever did see it Then you obviously haven't been around any REAL anime elitists. Believe me, I have, and they aren't pretty. I look positivley TAME by comparison. Litmus test time: "Dragon Ball Z is the greatest anime ever made" Respond I'd tell them that I disagree, but hey, they can like whatever they want. I'd suggest that they check out some other specific animes that I feel has the best quality of DBZ (the fight scenes) and improves on the parts I personally feel are pretty bad (everything else), but if they disagree with me, that's just wonderful. I don't care. -Duo

Why aren't you getting on this lad's case for making a sarcastic remark, no worse than anything I said? Oh, right, because you have some problem with anime fans. My bad, I forgot. And just for the record, from my many days of lurking (I've been here almost since it was the Smarks board, just never found a purpose to post before I started reading this board), I've never had a problem with Yuna (or Sakura, for that matter). Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 Look, I'm a fan of a number of games/animes/series/etc from Japan, both well known and not so well known. Anime did not begin and end with Dragonball Z or Neon Genesis Evangelion, and just because Cowboy Bebop appeared on Cartoon Network doesn't make it any less of a good show than it was before. However, the problem with these forms of entertainment were not originally the entertainment itself, but idiots who participate in them. Cosplay, the idiots who become so obsessed with fan service that we get animes and games that actually REVOLVE ENTIRELY AROUND fan service, the young girls who become pseudo fag hags because cartoon guys doing it are so appealing (which is like the female equivelant of guys thinking everything they know about sex they can learn by watching porn,) the Japan worship by people who would probably be looked at as the ignorant foreigner if they actually did visit that country. It's just all so STUPID. Being associated with that kind of behavior is what makes it embarassing to be into that kind of thing. Now, although I can't complain about their posting in other forums, Yuna and Duo tend to be the most vocal examples of this kind of fandom here on our board. And again, I'm not saying they're bad posters, I'm just saying this "OHAYO GOZAIMAS, NIPPON ICHI!!! ^_______^" attitude is predictible and embarassing. Guest Kamui Report post Posted November 24, 2003 However, the problem with these forms of entertainment were not originally the entertainment itself, but idiots who participate in them. omg you gots a stick up yer ass~!! Cosplay, Never done it, but I fail to see why this is on the list. It's just something people do with their free time. It's not like they go out into random areas dressed like that- you see, there's these things called anime conventions where they set apart time for cosplayers to show off their outfits. It's like making fun of someone for going to a football game dressed in a football jersey. the idiots who become so obsessed with fan service that we get animes and games that actually REVOLVE ENTIRELY AROUND fan service, Okay, this one I agree with you on (although some of the shows that people claim revolve entirley around fan service don't ACTUALLY revolve entirley around fan service, but okay). the young girls who become pseudo fag hags because cartoon guys doing it are so appealing (which is like the female equivelant of guys thinking everything they know about sex they can learn by watching porn,) My girlfriend loves yaoi. Do I care? No. It's just another sexual fetish. Some people have them. Yay for them. Again, why should you care? the Japan worship by people who would probably be looked at as the ignorant foreigner if they actually did visit that country. Most people who actually "worship" (read: like) more than just the anime and games usually study, again, more than just the anime and games and have an idea of what goes on there besides that. If someone takes the time to take in all aspects of the culture and the language- which many, many people do- they won't get looked down upon as an ignorant foreigner just because it was anime that got them into it (and it's not like they have to say that anyway!). I agree with you if someone just watches anime and plays games and expects to get the entire Japanese picture by those two alone, but very few people do, and most of the people who do are idiots. It's just all so STUPID. Being associated with that kind of behavior is what makes it embarassing to be into that kind of thing. I fail to see what's stupid about prefering another culture over your own. I don't like American culture. I like Japanese culture. How does that make me stupid? Now, although I can't complain about their posting in other forums, Yuna and Duo tend to be the most vocal examples of this kind of fandom here on our board. And again, I'm not saying they're bad posters, I'm just saying this "OHAYO GOZAIMAS, NIPPON ICHI!!! ^_______^" attitude is predictible and embarassing. Why? Give some reasons other than "Well, I think it's stupid." Why is it stupid? -Duo
