Macross features the love of music and romance set in a war enviroment while Gundam has political BS with some morals its a tough call to make.

I must have the Macross Plus Movie but it is hard to find in stores :(

Not to mention Gundams lack the elegance and fluidity of a macross fighter.

Give DC hubs a try for the movie.

I actually always considered this a plus for Gundam- with its mobile suits that screamed more weapons of war than elegant robots, it always really helped Gundam's theme of "war is bad".

Of course, the mobile suits became MORE elegant with each show, but them's the breaks I suppose.

Gundams appear fat and chunky to me, plus I'm not really a fan of robots with lazer swords. To me Macross planes with machine guns and missiles add a bit more realism to the war theme.

Lets try and keep this thread alive people.

I've been trying very hard to download Boogiepop phantom. Anybody seen the series to give any comments on it?

The other show I've been watching is "Rurouni Kenshin", but that's just 'cause I adore one of the bad guys.  Eh.

Makoto Shishio? Yes he is indeed badass.

I haven't seen it, but the series is well spread on Emule and probably other P2P networks as well.

Eh, Saito Hajime is the best character in Kenshin. Without a doubt.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

The way he kills the blind guy at the end of the Kyoto arc, just awesome.

My favorite characters are Sano and Soujiro.

Soujiro's fight has easily some of the best episodes the in the kyoto arc.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

You can really feel Soujiro’s genuine confusion when he hears of kenshin’s ideals. When he says “you were never there to protect me” to Kenshin, I couldn’t help but feel for him.

Oh man, I'm up to episode 16 now in X, and the more I watch of this show the more I like it. This show connects with my emotions better than any anime I can think of- and the visuals have gotten even prettier, if that's possible.

I'm really surprised how underrated this series seems to be, because I'm honestly loving X right now. Anyone who considers themselves an anime fan should check this out.

Its also known as Samurai X?

Yes, Samurai X is the (stupid) english title of Rurouni Kenshin. There's the original TV series, two OVA's and a movie that is more like a long episode of the series. The OVA's (esp. Trust & Betrayal) are very different in tone though, much more serious and more brutal. But beautifully animated, among the best hand-drawn animation I have ever seen.

Trust and Betrayal and both moving and visually stunning OVA's and I highly recommend them. The reflection OVA's on the other hand didnt go down with me that well. Anybody who wants to know the true ending to kenshin should try and track down the Jinchu arc of the manga (which is managed to obtain).

Are there a lot of episodes on Kazaa? What about the OVAs? Eh, even if they're not, I may as well buy the episodes. $30 per DVD at Suncoast...

I'm totally lost about this series so far, 'cause I started at episode 57.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Nothin' like seeing Shishio's death before I know who the hell he is, man. Eh. Despite a lack of knowledge about the show, I really got into what I saw. Guess that's a good sign.

I've only seen Macross via Robotech, is the storyline pretty much the same, despite the re editing? By the way, I've always been a sucker for Gundam, although War In the Pocket didn't work for me. Gundam X is indeed very cool.

I don't know if you thought I meant Gundam X, but in case you did, I'm talking about X, a totally seperate series.

Just for the hell of it- I saw a few Gundam X episodes and they pretty much turned me off on the series. Didn't really like it. But hey, to each their own (I loved War in the Pocket- thought it was very moving).

When Harmony Gold released Robotech, they actually merged 3 different anime series together: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross and two unrelated series Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada. The different series were changed to make one ultimate story so there are many changes in both story and names. For example Hirkaru Ichijo was changed to Rick Hunter in Robotech. So if you want to watch true macross watch SDF macros (and all its sequels). Robotech is not half as good as macross.

Argh Jesus. Speaking of macross I bought a region 2 dvd of macross 2...AND IT WAS A DUB! And when I mean dub it has no Japanese track on it, or any subtitles. Its supposed to be a dvd not a fucking VHS. And I cant return it either since the store I bought it from is quite far away.

*grumbles* that was 20 bucks well spent.

Anyone here have any anime soundtracks they like? I picked up the X soundtrack at Suncoast yesterday, been playing it and my FF8 soundtrack I found almost nonstop. Really good music.

I don't have any soundtracks but here are some songs with weird descriptions that I like:

The starting of Gundam Wing Endless Waltz?--Awesome song

Macross Pluss-- Well this is loaded with great music. Yoko Kanno rules the earth and than some

Starting of Bubblegum Crisis - The first song of the OVA - Touch Me Hurricane? Also the song that has the lyrics "you a lonely boy, don't you know a lonely girl?"

Starting of Evangelion and also the ending song of "Fly me to the moon" by Frank Sinatra

Starting of Cowboy Bebop-- Once again, Yoko Kanno

There's a song in Blood Reign: Curse of the Yoma midway through the movie that just reeks of awesomeness.

Starting of Astroboy--I like both the English and Japanese version here.

Kind of embarassed to admit I watched this but Sailor Moon has its share of good music

The starting of Speed Racer

There are others but that's all for now. My memory sucks.

If you're talking about the original Japanese version, I of course agree with you and urge you not to be embarassed. The show is of very high quality and, while not for everyone, is certainly not something to be embarassed about.

If you're talking about the American version.....I'll say nothing, simply because a person can only take so many four-page-long arguements a day. :P

Started watching X TV with episode 0, has everything been spoiled now?

Pretty much the first half of it has, I believe (I've never seen Episode 0, just guessing based on what I've heard). Which is unfortunate, because the first half is much more enjoyable when you have NO idea what's going on- part of the appeal of the show is that it lets you figure everything out on your own rather than holding your hand through it, and that appeal is obviously gone now.

I actually like the Bebop soundtracks more than I like the show now. Remarkably cool stuff. Also, once agayne, Weiß has some beautifully sung songs on theirs. Eh.
