Somebody at WLS-TV must be a Wayne's World fan

Recommended Posts

Here's a weird little occurrence from this afternoon. As I have for some 11 years, today I watched Jeopardy! at 3:30 pm on channel 7 out of Chicago. During the commercial break, I saw a commercial for Empire carpeting, you know "588-2300, Empire." Being a staple of local Chicago television, it's on like all the time. No big deal. This commercial was followed by one for Chia Pet. This is a little out of the ordinary, because I don't see them advertise often. THEN I see a commercial for the Clapper! Then it hits me. These three commercials were updated versions of the same three from the opening scene in Wayne's World when Benjamin is in bed channel-surfing. Just a weird coincidence I'd bring up.

(Oh and on Jeopardy!, I got Final Jeopardy right (the Rubik's cube was displayed at Hungary's exhibit at the Knoxville World's Fair), and did some otherwise general spanking of everyone on TV, save for a stupid category on Internet abbreviations, which has no place on Jeopardy. (In excess of 4000 posts and I still don't know the lingo.) I shouldn't be faced with the prospect of earning $800 for knowing what JSYK stands for. )

I bet Giangreco had something to do with the "Wayne's World sequence" of commercials. Him, or Ron Majors.

Hey Czech, is that Menard's guy still popping out terrible commercials?

I heard Mark Giangreco's son is going to be a huge hockey star; he was supposedly kicking ass at New Trier a year or two ago.

You'd better believe Menard Man is still around. For a while I think his heart stopped working so they replaced Menard Man with some butch-looking woman, but then, ostensibly because of fan backlash, Menard Man made his triumphant return to shilling vinyl siding and Venetian blinds for prices higher than those at my friendly neighborhood Home Depot.

I haven't seen Eagleman around though...I think Peter Francis Geraci may've taken Eagleman's spot. Unless he's national. I wouldn't know.

If there were ever a high school to be kicking ass in hockey, it's New Trier.

I remember that chick from Menard's. I believe that she's actually Menard Man's daughter. Fuck them anyway. I prefer Home Depot as well.

Eagleman is gone?!? That can't be! Those commercials were so terrible that they were brilliant, especially the Mancow commercial.

Geraci OWNS you. You need bankruptcy, you call Geraci. I moved from Joliet to West Virginia in January and haven't seen an Eagleman commercial, so he's not national. Maybe their just putting together a string of like 40 terrible commercials to release around Super Bowl time.

Man, I've been in Dallas for four fucking years now. I miss Eagleman! Also, I remember when they got rid of Menards Man, but I'm not sure if the corny getaway went away with him.

"Save big money at Menards!!"

Oh the catchphrase was/is still there, unless it's the holidays, when it becomes "Warm seasons greetings to you all from Menard's,"to make it look like they care. Yeah right.

I haven't seen Victory Auto Wreckers around either, but they're like the distand third in Chicago commercials behind Empire and Eagleman.

Did you have a girl at your house with you? Cause you could be playing Rob Lowe's character in the film.

You've just stepped into the Twilight Zone.

Victory Auto Wreckers...710 East Green in Bensenville, right?

Yeah...hey did you hear that if the O'Hare expansion was to go through, Bensenville would cease to exist? WHAT A LOSS!!!!

Alot of Des Plaines would be wiped out as well, right? But, the lack of Bensenville and Victory Auto Wreckers will be a sad, sad day in the Chicago area.

To get Eagleman, you've gotta watch UPN-50 (WPWR) or WYCC-20, or even perhaps WYJS-62. You know, the stations where they can actually afford commercials.

And Peter Francis Geraci is your hero and mine for his (bankruptcy) (info) (tapes) NOW.

Des Plaines would be saved, because they'd be expanding to the west, taking out a smidgen of Elk Grove Village and all of Bensenville. Des Plaines must stay! Mayor Daley can get rid of Meigs Field, but he can't eliminate the country's first McDonald's franchise, or the Choo-Choo Diner, where the train brings you your food.

Des Plaines Fun Fact: At one part of Mannheim Road and Lee Street, I believe, the road designated "U.S. 12-45" exists in two separate places at once. Weird.

I like the Lincoln auto insurance commercials, but Eagleman was classic he "lays" an egg, Eagle Woman was good too, especially when Eaglewoman laid egg but look like she farted with the smoke coming out in front shemale face. :D
