Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 I would be VERY surprised if they included the Fingerpoke of Doom and cited it as one of the milestones on the way to WCW's collapse. Even though it was. It would make a pretty cool Easter Egg. Heck, the match is as long as an Easter Egg normally would be.
JustJoe2k5 Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 That would suck for that to be an easter egg, it was like two seconds. The clip is included in the nWo DVD during one of the promo easter eggs.
The Czech Republic Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 They'd be remiss in leaving off clips of "Powers To Be" (yes, the Powers TO Be) "R & B."
Guest Choken One Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 They HAVE to put Bagwell/Booker Tacoma match on this fucker
Guest Choken One Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 Anyone remember that whole Jeremy Borash time period?
The Czech Republic Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 I remember that little pud doing play-by-play on Nitro a few weeks.
cabbageboy Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 1999 was a good year wrestling wise up until roughly when DDP won the title. After Spring Stampede the company just had no clue what they were doing, and to be honest didn't even try. It's shocking to believe the same company put out the stuff from the Summer of 1999 that put out Spring Stampede 99. I will actually say that Hogan/Sting wasn't the fall of WCW, nor was the whole Hogan/Nash incident. True, these were awful and politics ridden matches/incidents but by and large WCW's ratings and buyrates weren't going down the toilet. No, I will narrow it down to when they changed the Nitro set design in April 1999. DDP had just won the title and a lot of people were just bewildered as to why they would go in this direction. So they have him vs. Sting in the first hour of Nitro, and Sting beats him clean for the title. Everyone was like "Thank god they got it off DDP." And then the SAME SHOW they book a 4 way where DDP spent the whole match dicking around in the crowd protesting and then he snuck in to pin Nash to win the title back. From there we got DDP vs. Nash and then the whole hummer angle, etc. If you wanna know who to blame....blame DDP.
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 At the time, when they changed their set and logo I was like "Ok, this is the end". However, much like how HHH/Angle/Steph was the beginning of the end for the WWE, Sting/Hogan was the end for WCW. Both represented a fundamental issue that either company couldn't fix and it spelled disaster. Often the end is right near the peak. It just takes a while for the effects to be seen.
Tim Cooke Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Cruiserweights never drew in WCW. They were something WWF didn't have but they never drew. Tim
razazteca Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Cruiserweights never drew in WCW. They were something WWF didn't have but they never drew. Tim .....And La Parka was never over.
AndrewTS Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The reason that the Fingerpoke of Doom is considered the beginning of the end is that that was the night Skeevonee made his "Yeah, that'll put butts in seats" comment after revealing that Foley was going to be winning the title. Then, a ton of people watching flipped to Raw. The ratings began to tip in Raw's favor soon after. Of course, that's just when they started to lose the ratings war, not when they really started to go down the crapper. The DDP title reign theory is an interesting one that I haven't heard brought up before.
razazteca Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 When did Russo & Ferrero become active "talents" on Nitro? I think this would be one major factor in the downfall of WCW. Oklahoma, The Seinfeld GM character, Russo as Mr. NY all made me say WTF!?@#*
Guest Choken One Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 That was WELL after the downfall began... WCW was already dying before Russo came in... The biggest reason I think the company kept tanking was Russo insistance on putting Jeff Jarrett at the top of the show.
razazteca Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I would have to agree with the give Jeff Jarrett the title every week to break the Flair record in the shortest possible time. Jeff as a Horseman never worked out, and neither did the Jeff as a member of nWo platium so yeah Jeff Jarrett as the main man did not work. The whole Flair vs Shane Douglas angle was BS.
DangerousDamon Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The idea of changing the Nitro set as a reason for the downfall of WCW makes no FUCKING SENSE TO ME AT ALL.
Guest Choken One Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The end of WCW was pretty much Jeff Jarrett Vs Dustin Rhodes... Interesting I should note because in about 10 weeks that will be TNA'S main event... Maybe it's a fucking omen.
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 ... It wasn't a very good set.
Guest Choken One Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Are talking about the Futuristic Set? God that fucking sucked but I don't see how that Caused the downfall... OMG! THE SMACKDOWN FIST is the the REAL cause of WWE's current slump!
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The change in set and logo reflected WCW's mentality at the time. They changed the way they looked, but not the way they acted. It was still the same show. With the WWE in the mid-late 90's, when they changed their logo and set, they changed their mentality and direction as well.
razazteca Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The PPV sets are the TRUE CAUSE of the WWE financial problems.
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The WWE hasn't had a good PPV set since WM 19... Meanwhile, PRIDE has the best sets to match their great product. ... just sayin
razazteca Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The PRIDE set does rule with the ramp and the elevator. It make sense not like a giant chair that probably cost $392,084 and was only used once.
Guest Anglesault Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 They'd be remiss in leaving off clips of "Powers To Be" (yes, the Powers TO Be) I ripped clumps of hair out every time someone said that line.
Guest Choken One Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I thought it was called The Powers that be...
Slickster Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The PRIDE set does rule with the ramp and the elevator. It make sense not like a giant chair that probably cost $392,084 and was only used once. Twice, actually... KOR 01 and 02.
Guest Anglesault Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I thought it was called The Powers that be... In theory, yes. In practice, well, not quite.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I just picked up the NWO DVD today, and I realized it summed up what will be on the Rise and Fall of WCW DVD. Some guy is going to say that WCW was garbage until WWF guys came in and made it cool. They didn't like it in WCW, though, cause Vince was too awesome. Then, Vince made a bunch of new superstars, and WCW died since they had a bunch of old geysers. WCW will always be second best. "They SUCCUMBED to Ted Turner's billions."
