HA! i mean seriously, the only preview I've seen is her running down the side of a building (ooookay?) and the group fighting either licker looking things or dudes in black outfits...

Okay, so oddly you're seeing different trailers than me, because I've seen a ton of them where they're locking some gates as the hoards of zombies move towards them.

Heh, I love how they made Toronto City Hall the Umbrella Lab. :P

well that makes me feel better because at first I'm thinking, how can this be Resident Evil without zombies? that's what made the games great...

It seems to me that the use of game character names will be more a coincidence than anything else

I didn't like the first one at all (even though it led to a great inside joke with my friends and I about equating RE with shit) so I won't see this one, I imagine

The return of Ripper~!

Alas, I believe Ripper is gone... thankfully we now have BL to take the role of "token black TSMer"

He told me one time that he goes through periods of not posting here that last for months -- he's done this before -- and he told me a little while back that he was going to go on one of his prolonged "breaks" in the near future.

Which means he's probably getting some poon.

Either that or he's in jail...

Saw it today. It's not to bad, better than the original. I'm not gonna reveal anything, but it's a good popcorn movie.

That means it's shit.

Oh, actually saw a positive review of it...

Bottom Line

Although definitely much more video game than movie, Resident Evil: Apocalypse puts you right in the middle of the action, nonetheless--in which you imagine yourself as Alice, blowing away zombies and biochemical mutants, all while dexterously maneuvering your thumbs on your PlayStation controller.

I love it when reviewers talk about a video game they have no clue about. I wasn't aware that RE was a Contra-esque blast 'em up....

The movie feels like it is three hours long and not in a good way. It's filled with action that is so mindless that I was shaking my head at how stupid it was. Not to mention Anderson apparently has plans to make MK3 with one "special" scene near the end.

Is it good? No, no it's not.

Is it bad? Not really, other than the non-existant plot.

It's just kinda there.

It's probably less than part 1 since there is way too much of an attempt at comedy and the horror element is basically scrapped. It still tries to get you with the shock scenes but it's beyond obvious where the scenes are.

If you want horror, wait. If you want comedy, wait for Shaun of the Dead. If you want mindless action that makes you just stare at the screen at the absurdity of it all, then go see RE2.

First of all, to preface my thoughts, I liked RE1. So I can go for mindless movies. But this was just pointless. 2Gold pretty much summed up my feelings (not offensively bad, but not decent either).

Positives from the movie:

1. A death yanked straight from Firefly made me smile (the final death).

2. Um...topless Milla ? But after showing furburger in RE1 that loses effect.

3. Zombie Hookers rule

That is pretty much all I will remember from this movie by tomorrow morning. Well that and the terrible acting by the girl who played Jill.

I want to see it soon, although I don't know when. RE was pretty good, but not great. The thing is though, both RE and Final fantasy movies had little to do with the games and had a lot to be desired. Which begs the question: how can you screw up a series as easy to write as these games?Neither of them were Shakespeare, but I mean, come on. Evil child computers? Ghost planets?

*shrugs* i didn't have a problem with the Final Fantasy movie....none at all...guess if I wanted the game, I'd go play the game...other than small things such as Gil, Cid and Chocobos, none of the other FF games have anything in common storyline-wise so what exactly were you looking for? The FF movie felt like the first portion of say FF7 (basically the whole plotline with Cloud running around in the city before moving out into the rest of the world) so it worked for me...

Well, considering The Spirits Within just had the Final Fantasy moniker thrown on for marketing purposes, I don't see why people are in a fuss over it. Pretty good movie, in my eyes.

Exactly. Though I hated the movie and found it really preachy, I still never understood people complaining about it not being in line with a game. None of the Final Fantasy games had anything to do with eachother aside from their names [execpt X & X2 of course..] so this was just the same thing.. but it was a movie and not a game.

It was better than the first one, and most Anderson movies actually. This much more tolerable than WS' usual pretentious hackery.

However, it was a big stupid action movie with way too much frame-fucking for my tastes. Seeing Nemesis plodding around decimating stuff with his rocket launcher and using the gatling gun was good for some laughs.

I didn't think the movie was that bad, but sadly after they killed off my favorite character the black guyso early in the movie, the best part of the film came at the VERY end.

Hopefully, there's a good transition from Movie 1 to Movie 2...

At least Mike Epps lives

I actually enjoyed it, a lot more than the first one, which wasn't great but not that bad. At least this one didn't have Michelle "I'm such a fucking tough chick" Rodriguez in it, and the one girl who took up that role was the anorexic Lara Croft-wannabe who played Jill Valentine. She was really fucking hot though.

I'd also like to point out that it actually did feel similar to the RE games, and the action was detracted at some parts with the use of SHAKY CAM~! (like in Bourne Supremacy). It gets to be a bit of a headache when that happens.

That would be Michael Bay's favorite film-making technique, "frame-****ing." Lots of hacks (Pitof, Anderson, and now Witt) seem to like to add it to their repertoires.

So would Paul Greengrass (director of Bourne Supremacy) count as a "hack" as well, despite making an excellent movie?

No, and I never called him one either. If he overused it and seemed to have little talent for actually telling a story, I'd say so. Did you think I was implying he was? I wasn't. Geez, why so defensive?

However, like so many film-making techniques, often it is overused or inappropriately used.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how truly awful this thing was. If you like horror, go somewhere else, even the jump scare, the easiest thing to do in the history of horror movies becomes sickeningly predictable by the 2nd "we just got something to go our way, now let's pause and sigh with joy, oh no, a zombie just popped out and is rubbing his face against my shoulder YEARGH".

If you like a good action sequence, then you're out of luck as well. I can safely say I couldn't tell what the fuck was going on in 90% of the fight sequences because of the shakey cam. It was most used in the big showdown with Nemesis and Jovovich and I'll assume that's because Nemesis was the least mobile character since Michael Keaton's original Batman.

If you like plot, well you can go fuck yourself and die, cause you ain't getting any plot in this beast.

But! If you like forced "badasses" who try in vain to come off like complete asskickers and only succeed in coming off like your Grandma when she's fallen down the stairs and is irritated as a result, then you're in for a treat. Really awful oneliners too, including the 2 lines that were quite possibly the cause of the biggest "awkward silence" in a movie theater ever. The Russian guy killing the dogs gave us both. "Stay!" which was...painful. But he topped it with "I've got this BITCH". Haha, you see they're dogs. You make me laugh funny Russian man.

Mike Epps, God bless him, is still getting by with playing the same character in every movie.

There were 2 decent scenes though. The sequence where Jovovich is running down the hall as a helicopter trys to blow her away is decent, as is the follow up where she drops her gun and catches it in mid flight to blow away her captors. It's right out of RE: Code Veronica but still.

And finally, Nemesis stepping in front of Milla as the helicopter is getting closer, giving her the "What the hell are you doing, let me try" look and blasting it out of the sky with a rocket launcher, only for it to land on him. That got a laugh out of me.

Basically, just don't ever go to the movies again.

Whoa, sorry didn't mean to come across as defensive. It was just that I was citing Bourne Supremacy as the example for SHAKY-CAM~! (or frame-fucking as you called it) and then you went on to mention Michael Bay inventing that technique and the hacks that followed in his place.

Agreed. Just like bullet-time and the effects commonly known as the "Matrix effects" (the slow motion 360 degree rotating camera).

At least there's one camera trick that isn't used too often: Forrest Force, as invented by Sam Raimi (ride a motorcycle through the woods with a camera strapped to a 10-foot steel pole).

And break the jaw of your lead actor with it.

Bless Sam, only he would come up with camera techniques that threaten his actors in favor of a better shot in a movie.

Did anyone else get the Mortal Kombat vibe in the near to final scene?
