HILLARY RIPS BUSH: WARNS OF 'IRREPARABLE HARM' TO NATION

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton blasts President Bush and his "radical" administration on Saturday for attempting to dismantle the "central pillars of progress in our country during the 20th century."

Clinton makes the comments to Saturday editions of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE, sources tell DRUDGE.

The former first lady says she has become convinced the Republican administration wants "to undo the New Deal," the Roosevelt-era policies that ushered in Social Security and a host of other governmental assistance programs.

She said that Bush, who campaigned as a "compassionate conservative" in 2000, had taken a "hard-right turn to pursue an extremist agenda" after moving into the White House.

"I don't know where it came from, but the fact is that this President Bush has not only been radical and extreme in terms of Democratic presidents but in terms of Republican presidents, including his own father," she says.

She believes Bush is beatable next year because his administration is "making America less free, fair, strong, smart than it deserves to be in a dangerous world."

"We have to change direction before irreparable harm is done," she adds.

"This administration is in danger of being the first in American history to leave our nation worse off than when they found it."

Well, this would be more newsworthy, if every opposing candidate weren't saying the same thing...

How did we get so polarized all of a sudden?

she aint running in 2004......just let it go for gawd sakes. (and if she does happen too, I will apologize for being wrong).

She'd be a better candidate than anyone I see in the field. /shrug

I didn't mean it as a criticsm- I don't care if she runs or not, I don't mind her or anything (in fact, as I said above, I like her more than what I've seen of the Dem candidates so far). We'll see what happens, I guess.

If she doesn't run now and the Dems lose in '04, then it's a given she's running in '08, though. And I'd be INCREDIBLY surprised if she loses.

This thread is about to turn into a huge clusterfuck. Someone will come and rip on Hillary for ripping on Bush, then someone will rip on that person for ripping on Hillary for ripping on Bush...

Ugh...

Agreed. Don't know why this post was even made- wow, a Democratic Senator ripped on the Republician President. In other news, the sun rose this morning.

She's not running.

Hillary doesn't look like she's ran anywhere in years.

Fat jokes? Are you fucking kidding me?

I'm surprised Hillary doesn't run.

I mean really, what if Lieberman (somehow) wins the primary and then the election?

Then Hillary can't be the first Jewish president! Can she settle for just being the first woman?

Or did the Hillster stop pretending to be part Jewish sometime between the point where she declared herself a lifelong Yankee fan and a lifelong Met fan(while living in Arkansas mind you) during her Senatorial campaign?

I can't keep track anymore.

I think she pretty much forfeighted that once she made anti-semetic comments and voiced support for Arafat...

I'm gonna call BS on this one. Hillary is quite possibly one of the worst candidates that can be put up by the Democrats because she stands for everything that the Democrats want to get rid of; no platform, only bashing Bush, carries tons of baggage and enemies from her husband's administration with only a fraction of his charisma, and the polarizing effect she has on her party (There are many dems out there who do NOT like her at all) and outside of it (There are NO Republicans who like her at all). She couldn't take a swing vote if she wanted because she's way too busy either 1) Bashing Bush or 2) Bashing Bush while never putting forth an actual alternative.

You have a better chance with Dean or Kerry or hell, even Kucinich than Hillary Clinton. If the Democrats are smart they'll NEVER let Hillary come in because that means the Republicans will get either Condoleeza Rice or Colin Powell to run to counteract the whole "She's a woman running for president" thing, and you DON'T DON'T DON'T want that.

Just some friendly advice there. :)

The only way that Hillary could win a national election is if Bill has a public affair a week before the voting takes place.

Well, the replies to this thread certainly were predictable.

"Welcome to Current Events," indeed.

I would say this gets the award for "Most enlightening post" on this thread.

Hillary won't win. It's a virtual certainty. Not in 2004, not in 2008.

Despite the fact that Democrats SAY that they love her (although I have absolutely no idea why) and would vote for her, enough Americans dislike her that she can't win the White House.

Plus she's a woman. We're still quite a bit away, culturally, from being acceptable to the idea of a woman president. That won't change in 5 years.

In our defense, we've never had the chance to vote for a woman President.

Well, outside of Dukakis.

Sweating?

The woman has said about fifteen trillion times that she's not running.

Now we should believe her?

Damn that vast right-wing conspiracy (which, ironically enough, was CORRECT --- people do seem to ignore that while bashing her for making that idiotic comment) keeping that rumor afloat.

Did this stupid bitch actually say that? If so, that's as moronic as any of Bush's lamebrained utterings.

Of course, I've becoming convinced that Hillary wants to take us as far left as she thinks the Republicans are right. Although I, unlike her, recognize that most are near the middle of the political spectrum.

It's a good thing she isn't running in 2004. She hasn't a better chance than 2008. She probably doesn't have a chance in 08.

Although it would be interesting to see:

Son of a former president vs. wife of a former president?

Who is more unpopular within even their own party?

You know, is it really *required* in this case that the incumbent president run again? Can't we just pick another Republican more intelligent, qualified, charismatic, and open to compromise?
