1234-5678 Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Ok, who has seen this, and what did they think of it? I for one, think it was Tarantino's best screenplay, since he didn't direct, and involved a kick ass performance from Christian Slater. Highlights include: The scene between Slater and Gary Oldman The scene between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper Comic relief from Brad Pitt and Bronson Pinchot Val Kilmer as Elvis (The Mentor) The scene between Patricia Arquette and James Gandolfini and solid performances from Tom Sizemore and Chris Penn
Guest Showstoppa Icon Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 i absolutely loved this movie. I baught it on DVD on a whim, and am glad i did. I thaught the story was so strong and there are a few scenes that i absolutely. The Hopper/Walken dialogue was amazing, and Brad Pitt as a stoner was priceless. Slater talking to his concience, who's elvis, is histerical.
Insane Bump Machine Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Great, great movie. My favourite scene has to be the one with Gandolfini and Arquette. That was just brutal and beautiful.
notJames Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Great film. Too bad the commentary by Slater and Arquette is a heaping plate of stupid.
SpikeFayeJettEdBebop Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Good....Ill pick this up this weekend.
NoCalMike Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 This movie is definately great and it has flown over many people's radars over the years since it is lesser known. Tarrantino sure wrote one hell of a script here~!
Brush with Greatness Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 Actually, as most people know Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Slater dies in Tarantino's original script. Tony Scott changed it. However, Tarantino actually approves of the current ending because of how Scott interpreted the script (as a fucked up love story) and how the movie actually plays out. A question though. In both my VHS version and DVD version it is labeled the "Unrated Directors Cut". Can anyone tell me the difference between the theatrical version and the directors cut? I'm guessing the Gandolfini-Arquette seen is more lethal in the directors cut but I'm not sure? And who would've guessed, a solid acting performance from an Arquette. But yeah, love the movie, LOVE the DVD. The isolated commentaries are awesome.
Downhome Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 I also believe it's Tarrantino's best script. Hell, it's one of my favorite screenplays of all time. The film, from start to finish, had me in it's grips. There are so many classic scenes, so many classic lines...it's a damn shame that it's not more well known and talked about.

The only differences in the "Unrated" version, as far as I can tell is, there are a few extra gun shots, and just a couple more lines inserted (ex. Sam Jackson's character in the conversation with Oldman "I eat the pussy, I eat the BUTT, I eat every motherfuckin thing". In the R version, he just says "I eat the pussy.")
