The following is a good sentence from the hard rock section of allmusic.com's metal related list: "With some bands, it can be difficult to tell where the dividing line between hard rock and heavy metal falls, but the basic distinction is that ever since Black Sabbath, metal tends to be darker and more menacing, while hard rock (for the most part) has remained exuberant, chest-thumping party music."

The Metal Maniac Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 The worst part is, even with a convention of just 8 or 9 of us, we'd STILL never reach an agreement on anything, because I know that guys like Agent, NM and Thumbtack like totally different styles of metal then people like myself, and possibly Laz and Redbaron. I'm pretty sure you guys are both into at least some powery-type stuff, (I'm pretty sure you both like Maiden, but I don't know how far that goes) but I dunno all your favourite bands off the top of my head (Well, maybe Laz's). Though I do agree that Agent would have to be the head, on account of he's the only person who I've ever seen admit that while he doesn't like Maiden, even he agrees that they're very fucking talented. And if not for him, I would have never head "Scream of the Butterfly". I love you, man.

Corey_Lazarus Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 The origin of the term "heavy metal" actually comes from a review of Sabbath's first album, which said (I'm paraphrasing here) "the music sounds as if somebody took a bunch of heavy metal pots and pans and threw them down a flight of stairs while recording it." Funny how metal was once shunned, and now it's praised by millions the world over. And at the TSM Metal Summit, me and Agent should lead, since he represents the more brutal music, while I represent the more melodic music.
