(AP) - Police considered Tuesday whether to pursue charges against singer Bobby Brown, after officers responded to a domestic abuse call by his wife Whitney Houston at their home in this Atlanta suburb. Officers arrived at the couple's home Sunday evening and found Houston with a cut upper lip and a bruised cheek, Fulton County Police spokesman Kurtis Young said. Houston told officers that Brown hit her in the face during an argument. Young said that by the time officers arrived at the home, Brown had left for the airport to catch a flight to California. Police said they were trying to reach Brown to get his side of the story. No one had been arrested in the incident. Brown was released after serving seven days in DeKalb County Jail in August for violating his probation for a 1996 drunken driving conviction. On Sunday, cops responded to a domestic dispute call from the couple's home in Alpharetta, a suburb of Atlanta, at the Country Club of the South subdivision around 8:30 p.m. There, they found the R&B diva with a cut lip and a bruised cheek. Houston told police Brown had slapped her face with his right hand after an argument escalated out of control. While the jury's still out on the cause of the dispute, on Wednesday a family spokesperson told E! Online, "Bobby Brown is very apologetic about what happened and hopes his wife forgives him." Officials have apparently had a hard time finding Brown to get his side of the story. Earlier reports stated that, by the time cops arrived at the house on Sunday, Brown had reportedly exercised his prerogative to hightail it out of there and had taken off for California (or at least that's where Houston allegedly told police he was headed). However, a source close to the couple later said the embattled entertainer had never left the Peach State. Houston has yet to press charges, but because the incident is under investigation as an alleged act of domestic violence, officials could file charges against Brown without Houston's cooperation. "The report has been filed and wheels of justice are in motion and it depends on where the investigation leads," Fulton County Police Department spokesperson Kurtis Young told the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. The troubled twosome married in 1992 and have been plagued with rumors of abuse and drug use ever since. In 2000, the onetime New Edition member served 26 days in a Florida jail from a drunken-driving incident in that state. That same year, Houston was busted for pot at Hawaii's Keahole-Kona International Airport but managed to board a plane and fly away before police could arrest her. She later pleaded no contest and the case was dismissed. More recently, Brown received a two-year probation and an eight-day jail term, after pleading guilty in January to drunken-driving charges that dated back to 1996. That bust came about as a result of being tagged in Atlanta last November for having a baggie of pot, speeding and having no driver's license and proof of insurance Then in August, he was busted mid-meal at a seafood restaurant in August for a probation violation for which he was briefly jailed and ordered anew to complete a stint in rehab. Then she married him and she got worse, started to get lazy not making no music. Now people don't care about her unless its something negative, its a shame. I used to feel sorry for Whitney to and I've blame Bobby for Whitney's downfall to a point. Because, even after all of the shit Bobby has done from the girls to the drugs she has stand by him. Brown, whose location was unclear until yesterday, was promptly charged with battery upon his surrender but was not held. The onetime King of New Jack Swing and his R&B diva wife left the Fulton County Magistrate Court together after their attorneys met with police and received a copy of the charge. Local reports said the couple hoped to work the matter out "privately." Private or not, Brown is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing January 7. If convicted, Brown could face up to a year in jail and a fine of $1,000. He's also being investigated for possible probation violation on a prior drunken driving conviction. Brown was ordered to be on his best behavior until February 17, 2005. A screw up (like hitting your wife in the face) could result in jail time. Cops responded to a domestic dispute call from the Houston-Brown household in suburban Atlanta on Sunday night where they found Houston with a cut upper lip and bruised cheek. She claimed the injuries were the result of a fight with Brown. However, the ex-New Edition member had already split by the time police arrived and was reportedly on his way to California. A family spokesperson later denied Brown had ever left the peach state. While Brown's whereabouts during the ensuing three days were unclear, the embattled entertainer did release a statement apologizing to Whitney and asking for her forgiveness. Those words were undoubtedly more welcome than the alleged threat he made to his wife Sunday when he told Houston he would "beat her ass." This is just the latest in a string of legal woes for Brown, who served 26 days in a Florida jail in 2000 from a drunken-driving incident in that state and more recently was a guest of Georgia's DeKalb County correctional facility in August, a slammer stint that stemmed from a probation violation linked to a 1996 drunken driving conviction. Before she dated bobby, she dated Daryll Strawberry. Before him, Eddie Murphy. Whitney is a druggie, has always been a druggie and is dates druggies. Her and bobby probably met at a drug party. Bobby didn't bring her down...time did. Eventually all that shit she was pumping in her system was going to catch up with her and eventually it did and now she is that skinney, sweating ranting loon that you see all the time.
