Greatest Sports Rivalry That can

Recommended Posts

Alabama/Auburn. I swear, if there was a chance of this game actually happening for the national championship, this entire state would probably get blown up.

GODDAMNED RIGHT.

If you live in Alabama, growing up, you had to pick your team and fucking stick with it. No liking both. It was like, required to get into pre-school. I was a alabama fan. If they ever meet for a national title, there will be deaths in the state for wearing the wrong colors in the wrong neighborhood like it was gang country.

Would the eight people who live there have time to escape? :P

It's a possibility that Auburn/Alabama could play in the National Championship. If I remember right, Oklahoma/Nebraska played in the Orange Bowl back in 1978. That didn't really have any national championship implications, but it is similiar.

Here's a rivalry that I personally find interesting.

The Bengals/Browns/Steelers triangle.

If you ask someone in Cincinnati who their biggest rival is, they'll say the Browns. Ask someone in Cleveland and they'll say the Steelers. Which is not to say Cincy likes the Steelers or the Brownies like the Bengals, but it isn't a rivalry.

I think the NFL missed a great opportunity to start a new rivalry between the Bengals and the Colts by putting Baltimore in the AFC North and Indy in the AFC South.

Yeah, especially since I think of Indianapolis as more of a "northern" city than Baltimore. Not that Baltimore is all that "southern" but I'm pretty sure its further south than Indianapolis.

Then again that would put all the AFC North teams REALLY REALLY close together, and maybe they thought that travel imbalance would give those teams an unfair advantage. Who knows...

Yeah, but isn't the travel thing part of why they have divisions that are geographic? Besides, nobody has a problem with Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota and Detroit in the same division. In fact, I think it is one of the best division, rivalry-wise, in the NFL.

Buffalo should have gone into the North division like orginally planned and had Baltimore in the East. It would have created a natural geographic/ working class three way rivalry w/ Cleveland and Pittsburgh. The Bills would have lost a rivalry w/ Miami, but I think it's more based on the Bills going 0 for the 70s against the Fins than mutual hatred.
