haVoc 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 DARK MATCHES (1) Mideon pinned Billy Peters (?). His first name was Billy, he was billed from right across the bridge in St. Petersburg, so that got him a fair pop and a "Let's Go St. Pete" chant. Nice welcome pop for Mideon, who now has his head shaved. Mideon gets the win after a curtain call type move, but he goes a step ahead and lifts him up so Billy falls on his stomach. (2) Mike Barton (isn't that Bart Gunn?) & Jim Steele beat Brent Dail (?) & Carl Colon. Two decent size guys (Barton & Steel) vs. two cruiserweights. The bigger dudes get the win after a tilt-a-whirl type crucifix powerbomb and flying elbow off the top rope combo. (3) Garrison Cade & Mark Jindrak beat Val Venis & Lance Storm (w/ 2 ladies). The heel turn is official now, as Jindrak & Cade got the win after Jindrak sat on Storm while he was going for a sunset flip and held Cade's arms for leverage (he was outside the ring) to get the pin. SUNDAY NIGHT HEAT (1) No. 1 Contender for the Women's Title Match: Victoria pinned Ivory. Good match---both got a decent pop. Ivory missed a cross body from the top rope, then Victoria hit the Widow's Peak for the win. Molly Holly watched most of the match from the Titantron area. After the match was over, she went into the ring to shake hands with Victoria, but clocked her with the belt when she wasn't looking. She was also minus Stevie Richards. Face turn for Vicki? (2) Hurricane & Rosey pinned The Shane Twins. Shane Twins are local wrestlers for IPW, NWA Florida, etc. You may have seen them in the Sonny's BBQ commericals, too. The superheroes get the win after Hurricane climbs on Rosey's shoulders (ala Snuka did to Andre the Giant) and hits one of the twins with the big splash. (3) Steven Richards pinned Test. Clean win, too. I believe it was a roll up, but it almost looked like a botched spot by the ref, as it didn't seem like he counted to three. Is Test in the doghouse, or is Stevie and Vicki in for a decent face push? AFTER RAW ENDED Eric Bischoff's music hit, and he gloated about how Mick Foley was a coward. Randy Orton came down, and Bischoff kissed his ass. RVD's music hits. "Mick Foley may not be a coward, but I'm not." With that, RVD runs to the ring and starts attacking the I-C champ. Evolution comes down and beats down RVD. HBK comes down, and the two babyfaces clear the ring of Evil-loution. Jerry Brisco's kid is in the front row (while I wouldn't know him if I saw him at the mall or Burger King, he had a green jacket that said Brisco on the back and was high school age; I've heard Jerry on local D.J. Bubba the Love Sponge talk about his son's high school wrestling team, which I think won state a year or two ago). Anyway, RVD took Brisco's kid into the ring. Flair got in the ring, and HBK and RVD were urging Brisco to take on Flair, and Flair, ever the heel, eagerly awaited the challenge. All the guys were having fun with this, it was great to watch. They broke character without breaking character, if that makes any sense. Orton was on the outside cheering Flair on, pounding the apron. Brisco's kid did an amatuer takedown, and HBK acted as the ref, and Brisco pinned Flair 1-2-3! Triple H shook the ropes, acted pissed, shook his head, and Shawn gave him an almost purposeful barely touching weak looking superkick to Triple H. Oh, Bischoff for some reason hit HBK from behind, then bumped into RVD, and got superkicked by Shawn. Triple H helped him out of the ring. Funny ending for us lucky fans in Tampa. Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted December 16, 2003 Bart Gunn owns. That is all.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 Was it really Bart Gunn? If so then why did we have both Mideon and Bart Gunn in one night??
Guest Goodear Report post Posted December 16, 2003 Haven't Barton and Steele (aka 'Jungle' Jim of WCW Jobber Fame) made like tremendous leaps working in Japan for quite some time now? Because if so, I'm thinking they would be a great addition to the weak WWE tag ranks.

Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted December 16, 2003 $5 says Gunn and Steele are signed. $100 says I'm ecstatic. I think RAW is a fairly solid Tag Division right now. I'd dig these guys on RAW.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 I would die laughing if they brought Jungle Jim Steele back and let him keep the Thesz Press. That move is about as weak as the Worm in regards to finishers.

I'd actually send them to Smackdown to fill out the face side of the equation since Los Guerreros cannot be long for this world as a unit and I don't really have an interest in Rikishi and Scotty II Hotty as anything more than a midcard attraction. Silence 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 "Mick Foley may not be a coward, but I'm not." That ranks with the late Owen Hart's "He kicked my leg out of my leg" error after he turned on Bret after their match with the Quebecers.

ISportsFan 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 "Mick Foley may not be a coward, but I'm not." That ranks with the late Owen Hart's "He kicked my leg out of my leg" error after he turned on Bret after their match with the Quebecers. Except one moment was after the TV cameras were off and the other was supposed to jumpstart Owen as the company's top heel for the rest of 1994 on a major PPV. Guest bort Report post Posted December 17, 2003 If Barton and Steele came in they would be the best tag team in the WWE right away i think, Barton has gotten alot better in japan and steele is very solid, i do wonder how steele is in the ring since his knee surgery that kept him out almost 6 months, id like to see them brought in since it doenst seem NJ is doing anything with them
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2003 The problem is that they'd probably stick Barton back in the Bart Gunn gimmick and try to put him in something with Billy Gunn.
Guest bort Report post Posted December 17, 2003 Billy and Bart always were a good team but at this point Billy is done as a full time wrestler and if Barton was ever signed it would be wise to keep him away from billy.....i would play up his knockout power more than his gunn family past
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2003 The one post-WWF Bart Gunn/Mike Barton match I've seen was Barton/Saturn from an edition of TNA in April, and that match was VERY good. Stiff, methodical, and the psychology was solid.
LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2003 Mike Barton has gotten much much better in Japan......he's got alot of good guys teaching him psychology and ringwork over there......i'd be cool with these guys being signed......just make sure you keep "the Hammer" out of any toughman contests against professionals. iamsherm 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2003 From WWE.com ... Old friends visit at Tampa RAW by Phil Speer TAMPA, Fla – Dec. 15, 2003 -- Several faces familiar to longtime wrestling fans were on hand tonight. That is often the case when WWE visits Tampa because so many wrestlers, past and present, live in the area. Tonight, Mike Barton (aka Bart Gunn), Dennis Knight (Mideon), Norman Smiley and Brian Knobbs of the Nasty Boys were among those on hand – some just to visit, others to take part in tryout matches. Barton and Knight got in the ring for matches that took place before the RAW cameras started rolling. “It was awesome,” Knight said. “It’s one of those things where you never know if you’re ever going to get to do it again … Once you leave, you’re always thinking, ‘If I could just do it one more time, it would be awesome.’ And then to come out using my old music, it was awesome.” Knight competed with Ohio Valley Wrestling star Johnny Jeter. Many fans didn’t recognize Knight as he has lost 65-70 pounds and shaved his head. He has a new tattoo – a large eyeball on the back of his head. “I totally changed my look and my wrestling style and everything,” Knight said. Knight, who lives in St. Petersburg, said he’d also be at the SmackDown! taping tomorrow in Jacksonville. And so will Barton, who competed for several years in WWE as Bart Gunn, part of the Smokin’ Gunns with his “brother” Billy, with whom he said he still keeps in touch. The duo won the Tag Team Championship on three occasions. “I’ve got family who live in Florida, so I came on over to the show to visit everybody,” Barton said. “It’s always good when you come back and see some of the guys that you came up with. And there’s a lot of new guys here too – a lot of great talent. It’s good to meet all the new guys and to catch up with the old guys, and talk about some of the old times we used to have.” He ended up competing in a WWE ring for the first time in about four years. In the meantime, he’s been wrestling in Japan. He spent three years in All-Japan and then, in the beginning of this year, moved to New Japan. He returns there in late January. Smiley was hoping for some in-ring action tonight, but the schedule did not allow. So he’ll travel to SmackDown! tomorrow. Smiley competed on a few SmackDown! live events a few months ago. Once part of WCW, he has been wrestling in Japan, Mexico, Europe and for small promotions in the U.S. over the past few years. “A lot of the boys I know, so it’s very nice to be back,” Smiley said. Even some of the guys I don’t know, they used to watch the show, so they know me and I know them, so there’s a mutual professional respect there.” Also visiting today was Brian Knobbs, part of the duo the Nasty Boys, who were Tag Team Champions in WWE and WCW, and are still active in the small circuits today. Knobbs lives in Clearwater. “I came out to see a lot of my friends,” Knobbs said. “We all went down the highways a long time together.” If only for a nostalgiac trip, I wouldn't mind seeing Mideon and Bart Gunn return. Hell, with the Rumble coming up, they could always use them to bring back the "Royal Rumble Return" teasers for this year. Although, maybe it would be best to make those more tongue-in-cheek since, to me, Mideon and Bart Gunn are not on the same level as Goldust, Val Venis, or Curt Hennig. Guest bort Report post Posted December 17, 2003 They could team up the Smoking guns for a Short period of time if it lead to Mike Dumping Billy in favor of his newer better partner Steele
iamsherm 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2003 But when does that ever work? I've always seen that as the ultimate admission of failure (creatively) when two former tag team members get back together. I don't see Bart as anything more than Velocity main event material, personally, and the same thing goes for Mideon over on Heat.
Guest JMA Report post Posted December 17, 2003 I'd team up Knight and Barton. They're both good tag wrestlers. BTW, doesn't Barton have heat with JR for knocking the shit out of Steve Williams? Isn't that part of the reason he was let go?
