ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2003 OK...as most (if not all) of us know, this year's Royal Rumble match is in Philadelphia. This will be the first Royal Rumble from Philly. I've been wondering though, will this make Philly one of the few cities that hosted all five of the Big Five (Rumble, WrestleMania, KOTR, SumSlam and SurvSeries?) I know it hosted the first three (Rumble this year, WM15, and the 95 KotR)...but I'm not sure if it hosted a Summerslam or Survivor Series... Can someone tell me if I'm right or wrong, please? ISportsFan 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2003 Chicago (or Rosemont for most of them) has had the following WWF/WWE PPVs: The Wrestling Classic (the first ever wrestling PPV) 1/3 of WrestleMania 2, as stated earlier Survivor Series 1989 SummerSlam 1994 (only one in Chicago, at United Center) WrestleMania 13 Backlash 2001 (note: both WrestleManias held in Chicago numbered without Roman numerals) The third biggest market in the US has had PPVs on average once every 3 years and 2 months. An area that has completely lucked out in the way of WWF/E PPV's in the last 7 or 8 years is North/South Carolina. Before '96, Vince and Co. NEVER had a PPV in the Carolinas - come to think of it, he'd never really even done TV PERIOD in the Carolinas. Starting in '96, there's been . . . . IYH: Beware of Dog I/II '96 (Florence, SC/Charleston, SC) Unforgiven '98 (Greensboro, NC) King of the Ring '99 (Greensboro, NC) Unforgiven '99 (Charlotte, NC) SummerSlam 2000 (Raleigh, NC) Survivor Series 2001 (Greensboro, NC) Judgment Day 2002 (Charlotte, NC) NOTE: That's a PPV EVERY YEAR in North Carolina from 1998-2002 - FIVE YEARS! Plus, 1999 saw TWO PPV's in North Carolina. Greensboro has had three PPV's and two of them have been "Big Five" PPV's Pretty impressive, if you ask me. I don't know why Vince all of the sudden got a hard-on for doing PPV in the Carolinas (other than the fact that he was born in North Cackilacky , and the crowds are usually pretty hot) I guarantee you . . once Charlotte, NC has finished the new downtown arena, they'll get one of the big PPV's, probably Royal Rumble or SummerSlam. "Even the laid-back California crowd at the Arco Arena couldn't stop the vicious battle between Taker and Stone Cold!" Substitute "vicious" for whatever word they used.
