Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 From the preview on WWE.com it doesn't sound as though the Show/Cena match is for the title. Besides they never said it was on Smackdown either. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM IRAQ Dec. 25, 2003 World Wrestling Entertainment in proud to present a special edition of SmackDown! from Iraq on Christmas night. Join the Superstars of SmackDown! as they have the honor of competing in front of America’s troops in what should be an evening filled with action, excitement and emotion. In a blockbuster match, John Cena and the Big Show finally get the chance to meet in the ring after weeks of jawing back and forth, including a memorable battle rap two weeks ago. It may take an army to keep these two from destroying each other – luckily there will be one present! Also, last week on SmackDown!, Hardcore Holly not only was reinstated by the WWE Board of Directors, but thanks to perhaps the fight of his life, he earned a future shot at the WWE Championship and Brock Lesnar. He has vowed to take Lesnar’s Championship and break his neck, when will he have the opportunity? SmackDown! could provide the answer. " All of this and more on a special SmackDown! from Iraq, Thursday at 8/7 CT on UPN!
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 No offense... But this show will get a very poor rating. I don't know what "new fans" it's going to attract/appeal to. It's a very nice gesture and a good PR move, but isn't it a Christmas Smackdown? How many "fans" will see it? I know I won't be watching Bradshaw on Christmas Night, I'll be with my family & friends. Personally, I find the decision to tape a Christmas Night show very STUPID on WWE's part. If they wanted to make it special, air it in the middle of say, the WM-hype chase, so more people would see it.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 Half the show will just be random soldiers giving shout-outs and the wrestlers mugging the camera to "show their support"... it's going to be torture... if they didn't have Eddie vs. Benoit, I'd avoid it like the plague... bastards. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 The other 1/2 will be highlights of the INTENSE~! CROWD-PLEASING FEUD between Baldcore Holly and the Great White Gorilla. Mean Gene can do it, and Bob Costas, can make his return. I predict Brock attacks Hardcore backstage and stuffs him in in a trashcan, then beats the trashcan on the walls. Then McMahon laughs and says "Ho, ho ho...Brock...I guess you Decked the Halls with Holly! Fa la la la la..." and expects everyone to laugh and the ratings to rise and it's 1998 all over. Next week they don't, and Benoit loses to Matt Morgan to push new talent into a new era of WWE!

Also, it'll atract new fans (or at least re-ettract old fans) by giving mainstream publicity and appealing to patriotic hicks. Well, in Vince's mind anyway. I think the mainstream's given up on him right now. Anyway, it'll get a crap rating, but might generate some good publicity and Vince needs that more than a good rating right now. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 Vince should donate money to someone if he wants good publicity...not make Eddie, Benoit, WGTT, etc. travel to a shithole country less than a week before Christmas to put on a meaningless show. Name-calling doesn't give your point validity. He used 9/11 to get heat on his character. He used the Gulf War to get a heel over. Those are actions to be proud of... MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 There's gonna be no way of finding out if these are real until the 25th, or at least until the feed comes through. I'm guessing there's not that many smarks in the military. The feed will be late wednesday night, early Christmas morning, so I'll sit up Christmas eve waiting for Santa while watching Smackdown and give the report as soon as I can. Slickster 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 And if they do show Austin, they must be the dumbest company on the planet. Even if they don't, they still get the award... Not for the Austin thing, at least. Like it or not, Austin's character is still uber-over, especially with many fans who were in their early-mid-20s when Attitude began and are now casual fans of the product. In my opinion, they comprise many of the current Austin fans (many of whom probably marked the fuck out at having him there more than anything). Austin is still the one WWE superstar whom EVERYBODY knows. If you told some non-fan that you saw Charlie Haas and John Cena wrestle, they probably would'nt know them; mention Austin, and they're interested. Bottom line, though he's retired, Austin is still the best choice if you want to pop a crowd or get instant name recognition/attention from the media. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 Hey Rock, you hear what this guy is sayin? Yeah, is Austin really more popular than both of us? No way bruther, ain't no way that Texan is bigger and better and badder than HOLLYWOOD dude! Yeah, I don't recall Austin getting the press I do... And I don't see Austin making billions of dollars at the box office like us... YEAH, exactly. More recognizable than the Rock, HA, don't make me laugh... I could pop that crowd 10 times higher than old Baldy could, bruther.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2003 class act from WWE and Steve Austin : drink alcohol in a muslim country. and the US troops wonder why the irakians don't love them............. Iraqis were very heavy drinkers until Saddam dreamed up the "no public consumption" law in the mid-90s. It's not like the country has a big history of being alcohol-free or something.
