Alec Baldwin... Idiot

Recommended Posts

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Hollywood star Alec Baldwin (news) has appealed to Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II asking him to condemn "shocking cruelty" to animals on factory farms that produce food products, activists said.

The 45-year-old star of such movies as "Hunt for Red October" (1990) and 1998's "Mercury Rising" wrote to the pontiff on Friday pointing out that Catholic teaching requires people to treat animals kindly.

"In a clear violation of this teaching, modern factory farms greedily produce the greatest possible amount of meat, milk, and eggs while using the least possible amount of space, time, and money," he wrote.

"I am writing to ask that you exercise your moral authority in a clear statement of condemnation of present factory-farming methods," Baldwin said in the letter written on behalf of the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

"Your words would do a world of good for God's animals, who are suffering so horribly on factory farms and in slaughterhouses," he said in the letter released by PETA.

Baldwin, who also sent the pontiff a DVD copy of a film he recently made for PETA asking him to watch it, has joined a list of celebrities who campaign on behalf of the prominent US animal rights group.

"Animals on these intensive-production 'farms' never breathe fresh air or feel the grass beneath their feet or the sun on their faces," he said.

"They are never shown any kindness at all, and any compassionate person can only be appalled at the conditions under which they live and die," the actor wrote.

Baldwin has also starred in hits such as this year's movie "The Cooler," "Pearl Harbor" (2001), "Great Balls of Fire!" (1989) and "Working Girl" (1988) with Melanie Griffith (news).

Howard Stern Agrees: "Milk Is Dangerous"

“I agree with you that milk is dangerous for adults. Also I agree with you that they have put so many hormones in the milk that, you know, people have been speculating: ‘Why are young girls getting their breasts at 11 years old now?’ ... And why are little kids so fat? You know, milk is used by cows to fatten up calves and turn them into cows. … Well, I don’t think dairy is a necessary thing ... especially a glass of milk. I think you can get calcium from other products.”

Pam Likes Her Men the Way She Likes Her Causes

“I’ve been an animal lover my whole life. And PETA deals with the issue in such a strong way. Believe me, the businesses they fight can be ruthless, so PETA has to stick its neck out to do battle. I guess you could say, I like my causes like I like my men—tough and in your face but with big hearts.”

Trista and Ryan Pledge to Love, Honor, and Respect Animals

America's favorite sweethearts have made a special vow to PETA. Trista and Ryan-who married December 10 in front of millions of fans on their hugely popular show, Trista & Ryan's Wedding-took time out of their busy prenuptial schedules to join PETA's campaign against Iams, the pet food company that conducts cruel and deadly experiments on dogs and cats.

The happy couple provided PETA with an exclusive photo of themselves with their pampered pooch, Natasha, for PETA's scrapbook of people who've vowed to boycott Iams. The scrapbook will be sent to Iams president Jeffrey Ansell as the latest salvo in PETA's international campaign against the company.

Why are Trista and Ryan and PETA fed up with Iams? A recent PETA undercover investigation revealed deplorable conditions at an Iams contract laboratory. At least 27 dogs were killed, while others died of illnesses that went untreated, despite assurances from Iams that no animal in any Iams test would ever be deliberately killed.

P!nk on Pissing Off the Powers That Be

“Every book report I did in school was about animal rights. I rescue dogs. I love animals. If I can use my celebrity to get more people involved, I will. I think it’s good to piss off the powers that be and make a point at the same time.”

(Melbourne, Australia, Herald Sun)

Bill Maher Gives Seabiscuit Two Thumbs Down

KING: Well, we had Seabiscuit.

MAHER: Larry, I’m a PETA board member. I don’t go to see movies where they

put a bit in a horse’s mouth and get on his back. Anyone who gets on a

horse’s back deserves to be thrown off.

KING: So if he were a trotter, you’d have gone?

MAHER: Horses were not meant to serve as gambling icons.

(On Larry King)

Discussing actor Christopher Reeves, who was paralyzed in a horse riding accident, Maher sermonized during a 1997 interview: "If you try to make a horse jump over something that it doesn't want to jump over, I think it really should throw you off its back."

And fuck you to Maher.

I must say, I really, really, really, really wish I was as rich & jaded as these assholes that I could waste my time advocating bullshit organizations like PETA.

One final Maher line before we document his ties to PETA: "To those people who say, 'My father is alive because of animal experimentation,' I say, 'Yeah, well, good for you. This dog died so your father could live.' Sorry, but I am just not behind that kind of trade-off."

I don't understand how anyone could actually say that...and mean it.

I can't believe Maher supports PETA...

Why? PI was always a liberal p.c. show, which had 4 liberals against 1 conservative.

Because even some/many of us liberals don't like PETA's tactics either. I found Maher's show to be interesting enough, even if I didn't like him personally.

It was a liberal Hannity & Colmes. By the time the show is over I wind up with the same empty feeling I have watching that program.

This is why I prefer Crossfire over on the Commie News Network LOLALTERNATE2003WHEREBIFFSTEALSTHESPORTSBOOK. Sometimes I agree with the left guy, sometimes the right guy.

That said, I really can't believe some of the things he said.

I hear ya.

I'm in shock over what he said about Chris Reeve. Just disgusting. Implying that Reeve deserved what happened because he rode a horse...

Hosting anti-meat activist Howard Lyman on "Politically Incorrect" last week, Bill Maher -- an animal-rights activist himself -- offered these remarks: "I have mentioned before on this show, when the subject of mad cow disease came up, that I do have a strong position on that. I'm for it." Echoing PETA's Ingrid Newkirk (who has said of hoof-and-mouth disease: "I openly hope it will come here") Maher continued: "I think it would be a good thing if a few cases came over here and people stopped eating meat... I think food is certainly as big a killer as the other big killer -- tobacco -- in America."

Lyman, a former rancher who now makes a living hawking a book promoting a mad cow scare, gleefully proclaimed: "Isn't it wonderful? We have chronic wasting disease in the deer and elk so that the hunters can go out and get mad cow disease from the deer and elk now. It's finally time for the deer and elk to get even with the hunters."

Christopher Reeve didn't deserve to be paralyzed, but he sure is a cock.

But Bill Maher is an even bigger cock.

I never got the whole "Christopher Reeve is an asshole" theory employed by the "Greatest Web Page In The Universe", among others.

This too surprises me, as he never really seemed like a hippie before. In fact, watching his standup, he seemed to knock women and immigrants a bunch, making PETA seem like a no-no for him. But he is a dumbass.

Shouldn't Alec apologize for making us watch his uber-crappy movies? That seems far more cruel and infinitely less humane.

"Milk: The Deadly Poison"? Sweet God. I'm sot sure I'd take Stern as an expert on anything but masturbation and lesbian cliches.

At least 27 dogs were killed by IAMS? So, that puts IAMS how far beneath PETA in terms of killed animals?

All right. PETA hitting the white trash skank road! YES!

Ditto --- but that's because he is just unfunny and his stuff sucks.

You all are saying you don't agree at all with any of these problems people have with food factories?

Not at all. But by associating with PETA, they lose all credibility.

Exactly.

There are much better groups out there than PETA.

But associating with PETA, I want most of them screwed harshly up the rear by a horse.

I'm pretty sure for Pam Anderson it wouldn't be the first time. And besides you don't want the horse to catch STDs do you?
