The brand extension has enabled WWE to create two separate and distinct television shows that would provide the opportunity to develop and establish new WWE Superstars. The RAW and SmackDown! brands each have a touring company, thereby enabling us to increase the number of international live events yet lower the number of events at which each of our Superstars performs. Fewer events extend the careers of existing talent while provide more exposure to new talent. As well, there is the further opportunity to develop more pay-per-view events and distinctive consumer products.

The company is considering increasing the number of pay-per-view events to 14 in fiscal 2005."

Way to add more importance to individual PPV's, WWE. Oh yeah, having more PPVs will surely increase them buyrates.

Groan, sigh, vain mention of religious dieties, et cetera.

Hmmm... maybe they weren't too unhappy with the Smackdown! Tour of Asia and Australia after all.

Or maybe, Nathan Jones quitting inspired them so much they want to do it more often.

Great site and all of that. I found this on the WWE corporate website. The question was "What was the reason for the brand extension?" This is the official WWE answer:

"The brand extension has enabled WWE to create two separate and distinct television shows that would provide the opportunity to develop and establish new WWE Superstars. The RAW and SmackDown! brands each have a touring company, thereby enabling us to increase the number of international live events yet lower the number of events at which each of our Superstars performs. I would like for you to run this through your trusty BS to English translator if you will. The WWE really piled on thick on this one.

RD: Your request, my command:

"The brand extension has enabled WWE to create two separate and distinct television shows that would provide the opportunity to develop and establish exciting new storylines for every living McMahon. The RAW and SmackDown! brands each have a touring company, thereby enabling us to increase the number of international live events yet lower the number of events at which each of our Superstars performs, because God knows we couldn't do this if we hadn't split the brands, although, come to think of it, we'd been doing that for the 20 years prior to the brand extension. Fewer events extend the careers of existing talent while provide more exposure to the McMahons. As well, there is the further opportunity to develop more pay-per-view events and distinctive consumer products featuring the McMahons. The company is considering increasing the number of McMahons to 14 McMahons in fiscal McMahon 200McMahon."

RD: Hmmm...I'm not positive, but I think it may have something to do with the McMahons.

I think more than "where would they fit in," the better question is "what's the point?" Presumably, they're not going to add a 2nd ppv to any of the 4 months where they already have a ppv featuring both brands. So instead of 8 single-brand ppv months, they'll have 6, along with 2 multi-ppv months. What's the point?

As if we're not burned out enough from WWE.

This just means we'll be seeing Insurrextion and Rebellion worldwide, right?

Well we didn't get "Rebellion" here in the UK this year cause SKY had a falling out with WWE over the price of showing events. Which also lead to no showing of "Armageddon" this year either! So God only knows how they are going to introduce two extra PPV's.

At least it's not bad as when they wanted to launch weekly PPV's as well back in 1996/1997. I think they went on to become "Shotgun Saturday Night". What a success they were!

2 added PPVs plus a PPV price increase after Mania I bet.

Grand total of ordered PPVs in 2002-2003: 0

Grand total in 2004: 0

Because 34.95 is too god damn much to pay.

WOW, this really shows me that they pay NO attention to their product. They seriously live in fantasy world if they think people would be willing to order 14 ppv's in a year with the mediocre product that they are currently delivering.

And they REALLY need to cut their prices

Really. Just check the reviews, then pick up the DVD for 1/2 that price if it sounds good.

This isn't anything new. All along they have claimed that the brand split will bring them increased ppv buys and eventually in the long run increase the amount of ppv shows that they run. The whole idea was that since wrestling fans supported 24 ppv's a year when WCW and the WWF were competing (not counting ECW ppv's) that they could then produce those numbers themselves. This of course is predicated on the brand split working which it isn't.

I figured they would do a RAW and Smackdown PPV each month that theres not a CO-Brand PPV. That would be 20 PPVs a year.

The only way they could do that is if they sell both of em for $34.95 and they are 2 hours each (4 hours of PPV a month). It would be a better deal than what they have now.

They have totally lost it....

Hell you might as well wait for the DVD....at some retail stores they sell the PPV DVD's for 14.95 or 20 bucks.....and the picture looks alot better..

Jan - They won't put one here, too short of time to set up a ppv, besides the rumble brings in big buyrates.

Feb - Likely; set's up both shows for WM.

Mar - No, WM.

April - No, just did 2 ppvs and not enough time for post mania storylines

May - No, they should give at least 2 individual ppvs to help flow.

June - Possibly, this is bad blood time, angles tend to end or start around here; big time for both shows, summer begins, school is over.

July - Possibly, setting up summerslam. More likely than June.

Aug - no, Summerslam

Sept - possibly

Oct - possibly

Nov - no, Series

Dec - no, too close to feb

If they want 2 extra PPVs, why not ask Corny if he has the talent and have one(or both) dedicated to OVW guys, and put it out dirt cheap(I'm talking $10 or something). Either that or give the cruisers a PPV of their own. That might inspire me to actually go and get cable so i could see it.
