You want to see Jaba the Hut walk? Ewoks in every scene and everybodies gun being replaced by a walkie talkie?

You be quiet! <attempts to shoot raza with his walkie talkie>

I am sure someone can tell me this, but what were the diferences between the two versions?

Greedo Shoots First

The entire Jabba sequence with it's gratuitous Bob Fett appearance and not to mention crappy dialogue that makes Jabba look like an idiot

New alternate ending song for ROTJ

The new CGI version of the Sarlac Pit (complete with a ton of new CGI tentecles)

To me its sad when someone has to ask about the difference in the Original and Special Editions. But JasonX summed it all up. Basically anything that looks like CGI and wouldn't be around in 1977 to 1983, was probably added in the films. Don't worry, when GL comes around to releasing the Trilogy on DVD this year, we'll be seeing the Ultimate Editions not the SE or the Originals.

I knew about most of the changes, but I don't get why people bash the Special Edition ones.

It's just about the same movie, just made to look better. I see nothing wrong with that.

Greedo shooting first was the worst idea since Mabel winning KOTR. How could anybody miss at that range?

It's because Lucas went back and made masturbatory changes to films that were universally considered perfect and brilliant. None of the added special effects gelled well with the original footage, and if anything they were intrusive and distracting. They took you out of the experience. I personally know of no one who prefers the SE's to the originals.

I will come out and say that I enjoyed the ESB Special Edition better than the original.

*ducks flying objects*

Wait, let me explain. ESB had the least amount of "bonus" footage added to it. Sure, there's a Wampa here and a better shot of Cloud City there, but most of the changes were to remaster the film and clean up some of the FX.

Anyways, I was just at a comicon in Austin, and $10 is the going rate for a Laserdisc-to-DVD copy of the Criterion releases.

ANH, I didn't like the whole "Greedo shoots first" thing but aside from that there really isn't anything that takes away the full mystique of the movie. I can see where the Jabba scene hate comes from though. But considering it was originally shot with a fat Irishman as Jabba, there wasn't much they could do.

ROTJ was the weakest of the three movies, and the SE seemed to gear it even more to kiddies than it already was. I didn't enjoy it.

Still, I own the tapes, and I gotta tell ya, it makes for a great autographing item at conventions.

The Special Editions were only to make more money....and maybe promote the BAD prequels.

One of the main reasons for the Special Editions were to re-establish the Star Wars brand in the public's eyes on the 20th Anniversery of the first film so that the country would be Star Wars crazy again and ready for the prequels.

Shadow of the Empire (the officially recongnized as cannon SW novel that takes place inbetween ESB and ROTJ) was another prequel related project in the fact that the whole promotional blitz for Shadows was done as a test-run for the Episode 1 media blitz...

I watched Attack of the Clones on HBO the other day, and I can't believe how awful the dialogue is. I don't remember it being so bad, it just shows that Lucas can't write worth shit.

Portman is a good actress, but it wouldn't show it in this movie.

ESB was my leastfavorite of the original trilogy. I didn't mind the special edition fixes.

I like the Special Editions. Greedo shooting first is dumb, but it is so minor compared to fixing up the matte problems, no longer being able to see through the speeders, and most important of all getting rid of that goddamned Ewok song at the end of the original ROTJ.

So is Christensen believe it or not. Unfortunately this role might very well kill his career before he really gets going. Most of the others have been around long enough to getaway, but the only one who actually delivers a good performance is Ewan McGregor. Temuera Morrison does okay, but even Christopher Lee and Sam Jackson have problems.

meh, the ewok song like it or not fit the mood of the celebration going on well....the song that replaced it just feels out of place
