Is it possible (just for one night) to have RAW and Smackdown go head to head on a Monday Night? Both shows are on different stations, the question is if the WWE can convince UPN to have the Smackdown show on Monday for a one night shot.

I think it would be an idea worth exploring, and who knows, could help the WWE is the long run by further distinguishing both brands and creating real competition between the bookers. Something has to change at this point because the ratings have been stagnant for almost 2 years now.

The concept might spark interest - so rather than doing a 3.5, they might (collectively) get a 4.5 or something. It would have to be hyped for a while, though. Sure, that's not productive, but it's something fresh; which, in the long run, might be beneficial.

Uhmm.....

and they'd want to hurt their own ratings WHY?

There was a time where WWE was getting 6.0 and the WCW 4.0 rating every week. The WWE was making the most $ when it had a real threat. Create that threat again and you never know. I sincerely believe if the product is good, there is enough wrestling fans out there to support it. Think long-term more than short-term. 2 brands (feds) going against each other means 24 PPVs every year. Like I said, try it once and see what happens. It's worth the risk considering that ratings haven't picked up since 2002.

It would interesting to see one brand go the Sports Entertainment route and the other go the Wrestling route. But that's doubtful.

It wouldn't work. Like Pappa said, " There was a time where WWE was getting 6.0 and the WCW 4.0 rating every week."

When WWE purchased WCW, they thought that they could get a 10.0 rating, thinking that they could pull in the WCW audience. Instead, they wound up pulling 3's, because WCW's audience consisted of many people who flipped between the two shows, therefore counting as both their audiences.

A ratings war will never happen unless some other promoter/network team together to put togethern an alternate Monday night show to go against Raw.

It also didn't help that they treated the WCW guys like total jobbers (and, really, many today aren't much higher in the food chain), completely turning off many WCW fans who may have wanted to stick around.

It would be nice for RAW and SD to be live on the same night, just not on at the same time.

Having the shows on the same night would drive me nuts. It's like when I watch back to back NBA games...I go on overload.

I like head-to-head, because you can switch depending on your interest level.

The lack of competition is what's killing the WWE right now. This much I'm sure of. There's really nothing on the television to compare it to. That's why I'm hoping NWA-TNA gets a show on a major network. Give the fans a choice.

I don't think it's too bad of an idea. I mean, it could be well hyped, create a buzz amongst fans, it might just get a fair few people watching the show. It might even cause the creative teams, and wrestlers, to work harder and put all their effort into creating the best show possible.

WWE needs Competition in my opinion. It's made them work harder to put on a great show, not always successful I'll admit. However, even if it is only competition between it's own brands it's a least worth given a try as an experiment surely?

Having Smackdown and Raw on two different networks at the same time just would not work.

What if one of them starts winning? If Smackdown lost viewers to Raw (or vice versa), the ratings drop, and the network is forced charge less to advertisers when that's on the air. That makes the show less attractive, so the network is less likely to renew it.

WWE has no choice but to get people to watch as much WWE programming as possible, whenever it's on.

I don't think competition is really the same unless it's another wrestling show. It's just led to the best outcome.

If I don't like RAW I change the channel to something else. If the WWE hasn't been competing with anyone, where did the 3.0 of fans that were watching in it's peak go? They didn't just all die, they didn't turn off their tv's for good, they watched something else.

And Raw vs. Smackdown would be a one-shot deal (or, once a year), to have that every week would just be stupid.

Yes, because they really want to lose money and ratings by forcing fans to choose between brands owned by the same company.

I think I read that Vince discouraged any competition between the two brands.

Realize I'm 2 days late with this comment, but then how do you explain HHH's "Paper champion" comment a while back?
