So, the torch is saying there is a chance the day after Mania that Eddie and Benoit could be the world champions of each brand?

  ;)

Not sure how I feel about that rumor.

Benoit is safe. He's not going to threaten HHH's spot and he's going to make him look good in better matches than anyone else can give him. This is also the reason for the renewed Shawn push.

Eddy as World champ would have worked last fall, but I don't think it would now. He's been in the midcard so long and he'd have a Jericho-like run with the title.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the biggest threats to the top spots are either in midcard tag matches or totally left off of this proposed card. From a work standpoint, it looks like the best show they could give at this point, but from a business standpoint, they need to bank on top babyfaces who are fresh, proven they can get over and have charisma. Benoit and Guerrero do fall in that category, but not as much as Cena and Jericho.

That card is fine the way it is. I, for one, hope they go with it just like that, if they can't do Austin/Hogan.

In all seriousness, if HBK was to win the title at the rumble and go on to main event WM 20, it would pull a bigger buyrate than HHH in the main event at WM 20. Besides seeing Rock vs HHH would be fine and make sense as in Rock saves Foley from a Evolution beating and sets up an angle with Rock vs HHH.

That proposed card makes a lot of sense. The way they are building HHH vs HBK seems to indicate an HBK victory. The Dudleys called Foley a coward a couple weeks back, possibly foreshadowing them teaming at Mania(plus Foley and Dudleys are all NYC guys). That lineup is a good way to bring Edge back as well. I could see Foley costing Orton the IC Title to RVD or Booker T.

If that lineup sticks, Mania 20 is the end of one era and the beginning of another, the way it should be. By having Austin vs McMahon(No doubt some gimmick would be added), Taker vs Kane(and I'd expect a heavy duty gimmick, probably the Hell in the Cell, to be added to this one), and Rock vs HHH, it blows off the last 10 years and put the 3 big feuds of the last ten years in the past.

Then you have Goldberg vs Lesnar, which is one of the only original dream matches for Goldberg(really, the only 2 were Austin and Lesnar), putting Lesnar over huge, which builds to the future and sends Bill on his way.

Then you have the 2 World Title matches, with, get this, the 4 BEST workers in the company.

I like the idea of a cruiserweight battle royal with pinfalls because it gets a lot of those guys on the show and when it gets down to 3-5 guys, it could get great.

Basically, Mania 20 is intended be the end of the old guard and the beginning of a new guard, the beginning of the Cena, Orton, Benoit, Guerrero, Lesnar, Jericho, Edge, Batista, Matt Morgan, and Sean O Haire ERA with HHH. Angle, HBK, Taker, and Big Show as holdovers from both eras. Kane could really be on both lists.

People predicted 2004 a few years back as a changing of the guard and since spots are finally starting to open up(and more will with the questionable health of HHH, HBK, Angle, and Taker), it is looking like the prominent year in which guys besides Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle will be elevated to top tier status.

You just got me really excited to see a card that probably won't happen.

Is the world really screaming for the Sean O'Haire era?

Matt Morgan?

That looks like a very promising card. I only hope most of it comes to fruition.

I forgot to mention yesterday that although HHH vs. Rock and HBK vs. Benoit are pencilled in for WM XX, they might be switched around, giving us HHH vs. Benoit and Rock vs. HBK. This is all dependent on whether or not the Rock is okay with wrestling HHH at 'Mania.

If that's true, then The Rock HAD BETTER wrestle Triple H at Wrestlemania 20. Rock needs to remember that HHH OWES HIM A WRESTLEMANIA JOB!

Funny, I got my Torch today and saw nothing like this in the newsletter, about any type of proposed card.

In fact, Wade Keller has been talking about Benoit vs HHH at Mania and Rock and Foley still teaming against Orton and Batista or Flair.

So where exactly is the Torch presenting this information?

Am I missing something?

Same here - I posed this WWE information on another board and its been shot down as it is not in the Torch nor WO newsletter.

*Laughs at the notion of WM 20 being the beginning of anything*

Beginning of the end?

Who knows, Mania 10 was the end of Yokozuna vs. Luger on top and the beginning of Bret vs. Owen on top. Wrestling works in mysterious ways.

You know how there are wrestlers who you can never TRULY hate, no matter how much they deteriorate? (Curt Hennig and Davey Boy Smith are two examples in my case.) I guess one could say that about a whole organization too, as I got started on wrestling through the WWF(and I still call it the WWF a lot nowadays despite the name change). There will always be SOME sentimental value there regardless of the state of the product.
