Alright we did an abbreviated version of this during the College Football thread. But I was watching the NFL classics on Super Bowl XXI and it seemed that well.......that would suck for any Bronco's fan. So it got me to thinking about sports heartbreak again. So please share your stories of when your team just couldn't get it done. Or was ambushed like the aformentioned Bronco's.

Of course you all know one of mine......and that's the Big XII championship game. But I have another.

When I was a little kid I loved the Buffalo Bills....but they lost 4 straight Super Bowls. The ones I watched though(i was only a kid..i watched casually) were the two straight to the Dallas Cowboys. I hated those god damn Cowboys(still do). I live in Oklahoma. We have OU but the 90's was a time when well.....OU sucked a huge one. So Oklahoma's closest NFL team was the Dallas Cowboys. Since we didn't have a college team to root for everyone here became huge Cowboys fans. The America's team crap didn't help much either. So everywhere I went there was Cowboy's shit. It's still like that today. Oklahoma doesn't have a pro team so we've latched onto the closest thing.

So anyways I hated these fuckers. So in my naive childishness that knew nothing about football I went "maybe the Bills will beat them!" so I latched onto the Bills and hoped for a victory. They were crushed 2 years in a row. I felt terrible. Damn them Cowboys..............

anyways share your stories.

Bills losing 4 straight.

Even if they only won one, Buffalo would be much better off than it is right now.

SuperBowl XXXV, watching the Ravens absolutley kill the Giants hurt..

Subway Series 2000, The fuckin Yankees beat my Mets after Armondo Blownitez blows game 1.

NLCS 1999, Seeing Bobby Valentine bringing Kenny "Mr. Couldn't pitch in the postseason if my life depended on it" Rogers who walks in the winning friggin run putting the Braves into the WS.

I thought this was like deja vu all over again

I stand by my answers in the original thread, though I can now add Minnesota's collapse against a 3-12 Cardinals team costing them a playoff birth and delivering it into the lap of the fucking FudgePack to the list

Seeing Franco and Benitez blow two saves in a week (both by Brian Jordan homers - one was a GS) against the Braves in late 2001 was pretty crappy.

Forgot about those

If I remember correctly they were still in the running for the Wild Card and that sent them into a tailspin didn't it?

Oh yeah and 1988 NLCS Dwight Gooden tips his pitch, and gives up that Home Run which turned the Series in the Dodgers favor.. All this after having gone like 11-1 against the Dodgers in the regular season.

In 1994 the Knicks losing Game 6 and Game 7 against the Rockets in the 1994 NBA Finals and the Yankees being in first place and the baseball strike happenend. In 1995 Patrick Ewing missing the series winning LAY UP against the Pacers. In 1997 the whole Knicks and Heat fight incident. In 1997 the Giants losing to the Vikings in the NFL Playoffs after leading the whole game. In 2001 the Knicks losing to the Raptors in the NBA Playoffs. In 2001 Louis Gonzalez hitting a bloop single to beat the Yankees in the World Series (Still recovering from this one). In 2003 the Giants losing to the 49ers in the NFL Playoffs (I am still in disbelief over this one), the Giants losing to the Cowboys in the second game of the 2003 season I was so bad after this one and it drove me crazy that we lost that one and in 2003 the Yankees losing to the Marlins in the World Series. Oh I totally forgot about all of my Notre Dame and St. John's heart breaking moments. Notre Dame losing to Boston College in 1993 and 2002 and Notre Dame losing to Michigan in 1999 when they clearly got the first down to keep the game going. St. John's losing in the Elite 8 in 1999 when Scoonie Penn fouled Eric Barkley and no foul being called, losing to Gonzaga in 2000 and then losing to Boston College in the 2003 Big East Tournament as we where making a cinderella run until Grady Rennels forgot to get the rebound.

Thanks.

Yeah...on Sept. 23, the Mets were 3.5 back for the NL East crown. They finished 6 back.

Damn, I forgot about the '97 Vikings collapse too

Start: 8-2

Finish: 9-7, barely making into the playoffs

That game didn't even have to happen... but I wouldn't worry about it anyway, since the Giants got the last laugh in the '00 NFC title game... my ass still hurts on occasion from that one

Game 7 of the 2001 World Series.

The 2003 Series hurt because the Yankees sucked, but the ninth inning of Game seven in 01 was like a sucker punch.

Two stories....

Super Bowl (Rams vs Titans)... Tennessee drives to the Rams 10 yard line. Just two-three seconds left. Pass complete to Dyson.... we know what happened.

Chicago Bears becoming the second best team in NFC in 2001... gets killed by Philadelphia at home in old Soldier Field's finale.

While I hate GB with my football heart of hearts, I had to laugh at the fact that even in the Bears best season since their post-SB-win year, they still got swept in the regular season by the FudgePack

World Series 1993: Usually able to throw over 95 mph, Mitch Williams is brought into the game despite only throwing 78 mph. Enter Joe Carter, exit Phillies World Series hopes.

Monday Night Football 1996 or 97?: Eagles vs. the hated Dallas Cowboys. A field goal away from victory, Tommy Hutton bobbles the snap, and costs the Birds the game. I stopped watching football regularly for about 3 years after that one.

1998 - UCLA/Miami - the last second pass by McNown into the endzone flying just above Brad Melsby's hands and blowing UCLA's shot at the national championship game (and the way it looks now it's gonna be a long time before they get anywhere near that level again).

2000 - Tennessee/Jacksonville, AFC Championship game - Tennessee getting a safety, then Derrick Mason returning the ensuing kick for a touchdown to kill the Jags hopes of a Super Bowl.

2002 - Kings/Lakers, Game 4, Western Conference finals watching Horry's last-second three go in. If Sacramento wins they go up 3-1 and probably finish the Lakers off, but it wasn't destined to be.

And Cade McNown is still paying for it.
