RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Cena pumping up his shoes on the top rope was the highlight of the show. And maybe Billy Gunn.... he's such a bad actor, that it makes his current character kinda funny.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2004 Another terrific recap . . . although I really appreciated the Cena/Rhyno match for what is was . . . a warmup for Cena. It had a real mid 1980s feel to it along with the postmatch antics. Yes, I know that the kendo stick and table weren't very prominent in the 1980s. But it reminded me of a matchup you'd see on Superstars. It seemed to be exactly the kind of match Daddy would want. Slow paced, not too many dangerous bumps, a good buildup throughout the match although I hated Cena using fists w/ the stips. Heyman was gold. Plus, I'm a Rhyno mark. Pretty weak for a Smackdown Main Event, but they probably want to see if Cena can carry the show.
Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2004 Cena has a great ability to sell (bonus: his facial expressions), and the Reebok-pump-up on the top rope was gold. He's getting mid-97 Austinesque pops.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2004 I actually liked the show. While bait and switch segments are annoying, I wasn't really looking forward to watching Rikishi and Scotty fight the Bashams anyway. The wrestling wasn't that bad to me. The Rikishi/Scotty match was mercifully short, the Bashams vs WGTT and the FBI match went about as long as they could without the crowd shitting on it completely. That, and the Rhyno/Cena match delighted me. It told a different story than most matches these days and Cena really came off strong from it. I thought the show did a lot of good for progressing the Eddie/Kurt/Chavo situation and the bad feelings between Cena and Heyman can only be a good thing. IMO, it was one of the better Smackdowns of recent memory (at least from a storytelling perspective).
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2004 I thought Cena's selling was good except for when he did the FU - which pretty much well destroyed anything he was building up in the match. Also, his post match over-acting was annoying.
