Schwarzenegger Launches 'Armageddon Cuts' Campaign

Recommended Posts

FRESNO, Calif.  — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (search) told California voters Tuesday that they face "Armageddon cuts" in public services unless they approve his plan to borrow $15 billion to get the state out of debt.

Even as polls suggest voters are skeptical of Schwarzenegger's plan, he appeared optimistic that the state will eventually support him if faced with definite cuts and possibly higher taxes.

"I call them Armageddon cuts," he told a crowd of about 150 invited guests at a Fresno (search) ceramics plant. "We have the $15 billion economic recovery bond. We consolidate the inherited debt and refinance it, which is exactly what a financial adviser would say ... Then we are out of the hole. We are on our way to recovery."

Schwarzenegger stressed the bipartisan nature of the campaign, as Democratic state Controller Steve Westly joined him to call the bond measure "the most important vote most of you will cast in your lifetime." The measure goes before voters on March 2.

The bonds (search) would pay off short-term notes that come due in June, when Westly says the state would run out of money.

"In this next budget, there are going to be cuts across the board, including in education," Westly said. "What we are trying to avoid here is a jolt on top of that."

With the vote just six weeks away, Schwarzenegger is expected to make at least two campaign stops a week throughout the state to sell the bond measure. He is also raising money for a television ad campaign.

TOOL OF THE DEVIL 2004 LOL~!

I love how California refuses to do anything to dig themselves out of debt and when someone comes up with a plan, they complain and bicker without realizing that if the state goes bankrupt they lose the programs anyway.

Then again, I don't live in the state so I guess the citizens have a better plan.

He's using some of the EXACT SAME GODDAMN TRICKS that Gray Davis used! It's just easier to swallow because it's being delivered in a near-patented voice and personality you recognize from Hollywood. The real incredibly sad part was that I honestly believed Warren Buffett would be the man to save California's finances. Buffett got pimpslapped for suggesting the reversal of Prop 13 and it's been downhill ever since.

BTW:

Arnold Before: We gotta cut spending! It's spending that's causing this! You guys have a spending addiction! You need to go to an addiction place!

Arnold After: Well. Uh. Yeah, I guess we gotta do more than cut spending.

Arnold Before: Put me in office and our money nightmare will be over!

Arnold After: Approve my bond and our money nightmare will be over!

Arnold Before: I can do all of this AND lower the car tax!

Arnold After: This would have been easier except I lowered the car tax.
