VINCE TELLS SMACKDOWN TALENT HE DOESN'T WANT THEM TALKING TO THE INTERNET

Vince McMahon held his weekly backstage meeting with the Smackdown crew yesterday, and much like the Raw meeting on Monday, one of his main topics was talent talking with the "Internet critics" and the "dirtsheets". Vince said it disgusted him that it was going on, and said that if he finds out what wrestlers are talking to Internet sites and sheet writers, he would "fire them on the spot".

 

Brock Lesnar backed up Vince's comments, saying that recently he was doing an interview, and was asked questions about future booking plans that have been leaked out. Brock echoed Vince's sentiments, even allegedly saying "If I see anybody on the Internet, I'll kill them." I was told that there is a growing attitude that Brock thinks he is the "locker room leader" because of his relationship with Vince, even though he has much less experience than most of the roster.

 

The wrestlers were also critiqued during the meeting, with some feeling it is less about being critiqued and more about being "publicly humiliated". Even some members of management that didn't agree with the idea of criticizing wrestlers in front of the others at first are now doing so openly.

 

Needless to say, a lot of the talent is not looking forward to these meetings being a weekly occurrence.

 

 

 

At this week’s talent meeting before Raw, Vince McMahon was very animated about both in his feelings concerning people, like myself, who cover the professional wrestling business, as well as the disdain he feels for those of his employees who talk to the wrestling press (which, it should be mentioned, he has instructed his PR department to cut off all ties with already). In the speech, during which I was told he referred to wrestling reporters as “parasites”, he expressed confusion as to why his employees would talk to the wrestling press. He was said to be really upset that all of the details from the previous pre-television meetings that the company has had recently have been reported. I am not sure of his exact wording, but he definitely implied that if said wrestlers were found to be leaks, they would be ex-WWE wrestlers post haste. Again, as we have talked about in the past, this is the very reason why we are always forced to quote “unnamed sources” in WWE news stories. A source going on the record will get more heat than you can imagine.

 

To hammer home his point about not leaking information, he said things like “it ruins the illusion” and “spoils the product for the fans.” I can tell you this Vince, many of your employees speak to the press because they are frustrated by the direction of your company and your inability to make obvious changes when they are staring you in the face. As frustrated as you are, many of them feel the same way when they see the same mistakes being repeated over and over again.

 

From what I heard, the people you would expect to back management on this subject (read those being pushed well) were said to be in vocal agreement of Vince.

 

At the Raw meeting, last week’s Mark Henry vs. Chris Jericho match was the “teaching bout” shown to the masses. Management put over the story they told in the match to the wrestlers. A number of people at the meeting told me it was an odd choice since there were a lot of missed spots in the bout. Those spots were not acknowledged by management.

 

The talk in the locker room continues to be that Chris Benoit is being brought over to Raw because he can work great matches and will be an opponent who can make HHH look good. My take is that if HHH works as hard against Benoit as he did against Shawn Michaels, he will hold up his end of the bargain and won’t need to be carried at all.

You know what also happens when you mistreat talent? They quit. Do you really think the WW'E' will be able to eventually hold 2 shows a week that will entertain anybody when they have a roster of HHH, Randy Orton, Stone Cold(talking and drinking beer), Batista, Dudleys, Brock, Big Show, other large hosses not deserving of having their names remembered.

 

Benoit, Jericho, Matt Hardy, Guerreros, other real wrestlers start leaving and the WW'E' will die.

Forget the fact that we have a perfectly decent RVD/Orton match that told a perfectly decent story.....we're using Mark Fucking Henry as an example. And the match was not only terribly boring but like this article said, there were several blown spots. I just can't understand why they have used this match to teach the other wrestlers....

Funny you should say that, because while flipping through the channels today (and stumbling upon this show, "Passions"), I saw the most insane thing I've ever seen on a television program:

 

A monkey, under influence from some weird witch-like woman, setting fire to some woman covered in bedsheets. The woman then gets up, and tries to put out the fire to no avail, while the witch-like old bat yells "Burn, Bethie, burn!" over and over again.

 

I then flipped the channel to Hollywood Squares.

Agreed. But the match was CERTAINLY better than Jericho/Henry in absolutely any way. I don't see in what context Jericho/Henry can even be considered equal to the RVD/Orton match.
