That happened, and went on as long as it did, for two reasons:

1) Too many people tried to connect to the MySQL Server (Where all your posts and shit are stored) at once.

2) It's still going on, because whoever said that everyone should keep hitting refresh over and over again is a moron, and hitting refresh over and over again basically creates a user-inflicted Denial of Service.

This was out of my hands, because Mike the Admin is the only one with proper access.

Go figure.

For the benefit of us non-techheads, please explain this

Too many connections leads to a clogging of the bandwith.

Not exactly.

Refreshing over and over again basically means a "fresh" connection to the server is attempting to be established. If the server is already down due to having too many connections, a bunch more NEW connections are not going to help.

When I get that small error at the very top of the screen, the one that's not in a box or anything, refreshing exactly four times has loaded the board up for me.

The other error that we get all of the time, the MySQL error that is in that little box on the screen, the only thing I've been able to see that allows that to go away is to just wait for about ten or so minutes, then try again.
