Why so many German suplexes?

Recommended Posts

Last night at the Royal Rumble, something became very clear to me: the repetitive nature of WWE. Wrestlers, especially Angle and Benoit, always do German suplexes. Why don't they do more Northern Lights or Tiger Bombs or overhead belly to belly suplexes? Speaking of neck problems in recent years, don't you think the preponderance of german suplexes is a main reason?

I'd think that they use it so much because it's comparatively safer.

My friends and I actually had a betting pool on how many germans Benoit would use last night. The number was nine, and we all went over. I bet 21.

Is it true that overhead belly to bellys were outlawed by WWE? What's so dangerous about them? And nobody has ever gotten hurt from the piledriver (Jerry Lawler/Bret Hart's version) either. I just don't get it...

When was the last time benoit used a Dragon Suplex?

i only remember three times he has done it in the WWE/F, at WM 2000 to Angle, at No Mercy 2000 to HHH(twice) and in a RAW in 2001 to Regal

Didn't he do it to HHH @ No Mercy 2000?

Man that match was weird. They busted out so much new shit.

He may have used it in a match with Eddie who's the only guy willing to take a few extra moves(Wildbomb for example) from Benoit.

Test uses the Half-Nelson Suplex from time to time

I haven't seen a Double Underhook, Full Nelson Suplex, Dragon Suplex, or a Fisherman's Suplex in forever.

Hell, I haven't seen Eddie use a brainbuster in forever too

Test doesn't bridge, its a Half Nelson sideslam more than a suplex, but I count it

Isn't a Dragon suplex the same thing as a full nelson suplex?

Yes.

Somebody needs to pump out a Tiger Suplex.

Ultimo Dragon unified the J Crown and wcw cruiserweight belts with that move.

Benoit also used the full nelson/dragonplex against Jericho in their famed 2/3 falls match at SummerSlam 2000.

But that was 7 years ago, I want to see one now.

Eddie and Chavo used watered down brainbusters.

Brock does a delayed fisherman's suplex.

Benoit once said many people were apprehensive about the dragon suplex in WCW if I remember right.

There's a very small difference between the Dragon and Full Nelson. Full Nelson they hold the bridge while still having it in Full Nelson mode, with the Dragon's I've seen after they suplex they let go enough to bridge using their knuckles on the mat. Its basically the same thing but I'm a knit-picker

Well the Germans were unique until that unoriginal "wrestler" Angle started using them, even using the special multiple Germans. Blame Angle and the fact that he can't come up with any of his own moves.

No, there the same move.

If they let go than they botched it, and couldn't hold the Full Nelson.

Is Benoit unoriginal for taking the crossface from Dean, headbut from Dynamite and Sharpshooter from Stu Hart?
