Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Sorry Choken, but it's not just a rap DVD to hype the album. I got a preview sheet from Sony at work, and it says that the DVD will include highlights of his feuds with Brock and Undertaker, his battle raps with Angle and Show, the rap from Baghdad, unedited material, and 2 hours of DVD extras with matches, such as ones against Benoit, Eddie, Angle, Undertaker and Brock, plus more. Like I said in the other thread, I like the guy but I think it's way too soon for a DVD. Understandably though, they're getting the marketing machine behind him so I'd call that a good thing. Downhome 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 OMG it's NOT A WRESTLING DVD you stupid idiots, OMG~! I'll say it again, there are only two Cena "standout" matches that are even really DVD worthy in my opinion. At least Brock's matches meant something for the most part that were released on his DVD. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 *marks for the avatar* *has nothing to add to this thread* ... ummm... they did this with Jericho a year-and-change after he debuted - but that's when it was VHS-based; so it's the same thing... but on DVD. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Jericho had a VHS release? What exactly was on it? "Break Down the Walls." Just a fluff piece with interviews, segments, some mentions of how he'd wanted to come from WCW to WWF, etc. At the same time Kurt got one. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=video&n=507846 A review of it is near the bottom. It's an hour long, without any full matches.

SinToxic 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 I knew it, I knew that I would get sick of how WWE tries to sell Cena into being something special faster than I would get sick of Orton getting to spit on a legend ... who doesnt even gets to wipe it.
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Huh? You're sick of WWE's marketing of Cena?
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Guess what guys, they need to get behind their future stars NOW so the fans don't see them as chokers or also rans. This DVD is a decent enough way of telling people that Cena is here to stay and he's one of the elite. Having him win the US Title at NWO would be another. Fökai 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 NOOOO!!! Put our money behind two future question marks in Angle and Benoit! That's the ticket! ... Seriously, the WWE is doing the RIGHT thing by putting their stock into Cena's rising popularity. With the pops he's garnering without any previous hype (ex: Austin's 3:16 marketing machine), he's probably the saving grace of the company for the time being. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Yeah, you see a picture on his wall and he talks a lil bit about it IIRC. It has been, like, 3 years since I've watched it.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 God, do you people stop bitching about ANYTHING? The Jericho VHS is "crap" ??!?!? WHAT?!?!?! It's got his COMPLETE debut. It's got his title win (a lot of it) over Triple H from Raw, which is amazing. It's got a lot (all the spots) from his last man standing match with Triple H. It's got his IC title victories. It's a look at his house, his wrestling collection, all kinds of stuff. There's tons of his funny promos, on Angle, HHH, Steph, etc. It's a VERY solid video, even if its "fluff"...its a HELLUVA lot more wrestling historical stuff than fluff. For like $9.99. As for Cena, that's awesome he's getting a DVD. The other guys will get DVDs, so stop bitching. They need to take advantages of Cena's recent star power and try to market him NOW on DVD....guys like Jericho, Benoit, and Angle have been stars forever, and their drawing power has reained consistent. They need to get Cena there! Perhaps if we went to college and didn't spend 23 1/2 hours bitching about "WHY IS BENOIT ON RAW?" and "CENA GETS A DVD!!!!! WHERE'S MY BEST OF ANGLE DVD?!?! WAHHH!!" we'd understand the principles of marketing.

Markme123 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 This is going to bomb worse then the fucking Trish DVD. Are you serious? He is probably one of the top 3-4 wrestlers in th WWE (in terms of popularity) and you don't think his will sell? Also, don't complain about WWE not making new stars and then turn around and complain because it isn't the young guy you want who is getting pushed. Well, IMO is sounds hypocritical
Guest Jimbo Report post Posted January 29, 2004 And why should I buy this? Why do all these people keep getting DVD's? Why the fuck does the WWE keep wasting time making this crap for starts like Cena, who have hardly been a full time wrestler for a year, when they've got the whole WCW and most of the ECW library sitting around in the closet? Gahhh....*bangs head on wall*
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 DH called the Jericho tape crap, I didn't. However, it's only an hour and I wouldn't pay 10 bucks new for it. Maybe back when he debuted, though. No full matches. Plus I have the full matches highlighted on other tapes anyway, so naah. As for the Cena DVD--nothing I'd buy, but it's a smart idea by WWE. Although a wrestling DVD at this point in his career is pointless. However, for those who think it will bomb, two words: WWE Originals. Never underestimate who will buy worthless crap. Gahhh....*bangs head on wall* We've gotten a fair amount of older stuff in the new Foley and Flair DVDs. It's not going to hurt us if they put out a DVD of a young WWE-only guy, as long as they keep coming with the old stuff, which we ARE starting to get, and it's great. Guest hunger4unger Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Trish's DVD, whether it "bombed" or not (and I don't think it did) was good. Cena's DVD will no doubt include a "story" following his career including footage from UPW and no doubt OVW. It'll be 3 hours + including extras and with that in mind, value for money. I'm looking forward to it.

El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Also, don't complain about WWE not making new stars and then turn around and complain because it isn't the young guy you want who is getting pushed. When smarks say "make new stars" it usually translates to "Benoit". That's basically all they'll accept. This IS smart for them, like it or not. They guy is popular right now, so put stuff out for people to buy. It'll sell.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 It's pretty pathetic to make your entire case of Cena being undeserving of a DVD because he hasn't achieved **** matches to the tune of Benoit's level. Fact is, Cena is the hottest commodity in the WWE today. If you've watched a Confidential episode in the last four months, you would find that he's a promotional machine we haven't seen the likes of since Austin in 1998/1999 and Rocky in 2000. He DESERVES a DVD, simply because he is a rising star who could help bring the WWE back to 2000-esque levels of financial success.
