Noob was in MKTE, but nobody seems to have cared about that.

Never even heard of that. Was that the MK DA upgrade for GBA?

What the hell is up with the blades in Baraka's arms in those pictures? Those can't possibly retract.

Looks like good rain/lighting effects in that stage, though.

Yeah, MKTE is an upgrade to MKDA. Actually more of an alternate version. It's the half of the game they cut from the first MKDA to fit on GBA, plus a few extra stages and a few new characters(Sareena, Sektor and Noob).

I'm sure it beats that awful MK Advance.

Ok someone over at MK Online claims they got the new PSM in today. None of this is confirmed, but according to them...

Nightwolf is indeed in.

The bald guy with the pony tail is an alternate outfit for Sub-Zero

Sindel and Kenshi are shown.

There's a pic of someone who looks like Kitana, but they're not sure.

The girl in white with the hat is a new character named Ashrah.

Hotaru is a new character who "resembles Quan Chi"

Konquest mode is back and radically changed. You now pick a character and play as them through an epic adventure where they age and learn new moves and get new outfits. It involves tons of MK characters, past and present.

The story takes place right after MKDA and the new villain is The Dragon King, who was first built up in DA.

The core gameplay is the same as it was in DA.

Every character has two Fatalities and a Hari kari move. You can kill YOURSELF!

Two mini-games are in. One is a MK version of chess and the other is a puzzle game they compare to Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. It even has kiddy anime style versions of the characters like Puzzle fighter. Sounds crazy.

I hope this guy isn't BSing, as this is all cool. Sindel!

MKO just confirmed all this stuff. It's true.

Also in the article there is a drawing of Bo' Rai Cho fighting Smoke(as a human).

Here's the official news item from MKO:

Forum/chat member Hydro was able to get us a copy of the PSM feature article on Mortal Kombat: Deception, and it was worth the wait! The issue is chock-full of information on the different play modes. Rather than quote the article, we're going to summarize what we have learned.

Konquest mode has returned in a much expanded form. Unlike MK: Deadly Alliance's Konquest, the new version is much more akin to something out of Grand Theft Auto. You still have to attend the dojo to learn from characters like Bo'Rai Cho, but there are also random encounters and events in the village that can be the clue to secret techniques and other rewards. (You can even beat up hapless villagers for the heck of it). As in MK:DA, the goal of Konquest is to learn the combos and strategies of the game. Best of all, Konquest acts as a create-a-character mode, where you build up your generic monk character through the Konquest, and when done, can use him in the other game modes, including online play.

As far as characters go... Nightwolf is indeed confirmed to return in the game. Noob Saibot is also poised to return. One surprise, though, comes in the form of Sindel, who, like Nightwolf, is making her first appearance in MK since Mortal Kombat Trilogy. New characters include an armored warrior named Hotaru, and the mysterious white-clad woman in the trailer, called Ashrah. The unknown warrior referred to in the last news article is in fact Sub-Zero's alt costume; not much is revealed about him either. Moreover, it is revealed that the boss in this game is the Dragon King, whose unseen presence figured prominently in the events of MK: Deadly Alliance. Speaking of said events, it is also confirmed that the game takes place in the aftermath of Deadly Alliance.

The gameplay also has been tightened up since the last MK. As before, each character has three fighting stances, though they are barely touched upon in the article. However, the characters are now quicker and easier to move around. In addition to their armed fighting styles, the arenas now have weapons available that can be picked up, and they are more powerful than the characters' standard weapons. Also, stages have what are known as "Death Traps" (aka, stage fatalities), which are red areas in which a stage fatality can be performed. It doesn't say explicitly, yet it sounds as if Death Traps can be used in mid-battle. Other, more minor traps can be present, such as flames and the like. The levels are often huge, taking up multiple levels. An example of one arena was shown in the form of the Netherbelly, which is presumably the interior of the Nethership from MK: Deadly Alliance. This is the arena featuring the swinging corpses, and concept art shows Kenshi being grabbed if he gets too close to a wall with people looking through a window. Each character, according to Boon, will have two or more fatalities, and there are even rumours of "hara kiri" moves, which bring to mind the Suicidality rumours of yore.

Side games? They show that as well. These side games are different from the Test Your Might/Sight of old. The first is a strategy board game akin to chess or Archon, with the kombatants as pieces on a chessboard. Attempting to capture a piece requires the opponents to duke the characters out a la standard arcade mode. The other game, Puzzle Kombat, is similar to Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, where small deformed characters have it out in the middle of a Tetris-style puzzle game.

Due to copyright reasons, we are not able to provide scans of this article. You can find the PSM article in newsstands near you very soon!

Our thanks to Hydro and Dragula21 for the heads-up on the article!

The hell?!

MK Advance is the worst MK game ever.

I thought that, if you don't pull that "compared to other games on that system" stuff, that the Gameboy MK 1 would be.

It's so exciting that we've got all this news in just a few days time. We already know over 10 of the characters! Info came out sooo slow with MKDA.

I can't wait until E3, where it will be up and playable. MKO is going there and will cover it like they did with DA in 2002. I really want more details on the story.

I don't say MK1 on Gameboy because there's actually good versions of MK1. MKA on GBA is the only version of MKA and so it's the worst overall game in the series.

It's just a half-assed version of the MK3 craplogy, though. Not really an original game.

It's like a hybrid of UMK3 and MKT. It has the roster of the 16 bit UMK3s, the story retcons from MKT and some original stuff like Rain & Ermac's new Friendship and a bunch of new or modified Fatalities. Plus it's got a new name. New name = new game.

Maximum Carnage would be better if it wasn't so GOD DAMN LONG. The game itself looks fantastic while you are playing it, and the first few levels of bashing are great fun, but after a while it gets very tiresome, very fast. However, Captain America is in there, so you just can't hate it.

I'm with Dama on this one, I'm going to go downtown tomorrow and pick up Deadly Alliance for the discounted price it's going for these days.

I wish the controls in Maximum Carnage were a bit tighter, like in Spiderman (Genesis), but it's still a pretty fun game. Pretty hard, though.

Yeah I didn't pick up DA b/c it was 15 bucks where i was. I'll find it cheaper.

Hey Sakura. I have a PS2, X-Box, Gamecube, and SNES.

I have MK I,II, and III. What else should I pick up?

As far as MK goes?

There's UMK3 on SNES and MKT on PSX. MKT is an upgrade to UMK3.

There's Special Forces and Mythologies on PSX, but both are not fighting games and are really bad.

MK4 is on PSX.

MKT also isn't very good. Well, the game itself I don't like (check my GameFAQs review), but I'm talking about how much of a pain in the ass it is to try to play. It freezes and glitches up a lot, the loading times get to be really annoying, if you play it on a PS2 the glitches are even worse. I don't think you can continue a game once you lose a kredit (the continue screen just runs out of time and the game ends).

I've tried 3 or 4 copies of them and they've all been horrendously buggy.

You're exaggerating 90% of the time it plays fine. Also, you can continue on PS2, you just can't let the timer run out. You can just turn the timer off though in the options. I play the game on MKT all the time and it's fine. The big problem is it locks up when you beat Kahn or finish a 8 person tournament. So no endings.

I just read your review. There's some mistakes. Like Sheeva's skeleton does have 4 arms when Sindel rips her skin off. Also the bashing of dial-a-combos is unfair. If you don't like dial-a-combos you can turn them off.

MKT is my favorite game in the series. Dial-a-combos are cool.

I'm with Sakura, MKT is under-rated and heaps of fun once you learn all the finishers and combos. I still remember Shang's killer combo off by heart.

Ah, the amount of souls I claimed using that one. No pun intended.

Cool. I'll try to get my hands on Trilogy and MK4.

What's the difference between Trilogy and UMK3?

Oh and I've really fallen out of the mix. MK is a different fighting game to play than the others. I'm used to speeding around the screen on Hyper Turbo in a Capcom game. Or smashing someone with huge moves in Soul Calibur.

This one is just different. And I've really fallen out of it b/c I was getting pounded on last night.

Everytime I make it to Endurance on MKI I get beat. Maybe it's b/c I have the difficulty on Medium and I haven't played an MK style game in about 6 years. Because I used to be really good at this game.

And then in MKII I was Reptile and I easily whomped ass throughout the tournament but Kintaro made me his bitch........a few thousand times(ok 4 times b/c you only get 4 continues) but still!

I remember having trouble with that as a kid though. But I never ever had trouble with MK3. I beat ass on it even as a little kid.

Oh and what was the story with Goro coming back in MK4?

On top of why can't I get my Friendship and Babality to work with Reptile? Is there anything special you have to do?

MKT is my favorite game in the series. Dial-a-combos are cool.

It won't let you continue though after you opt to continue. It just gets stuck at that screen.

Also, if they actually fixed that thing with Sheeva, I somehow missed it.

Dial-A-Combos aren't "cool" because you say so. Hated them then and always will. It also always seemed the only reason they added the Run button was to let you do them.

The Running isn't like dashing where you can use it for other purposes--it's clunky, unnatural, and difficult to use effectively. You can't, say, run then slide in with Subby. I haven't played them in a long time but I don't think you can backdash either. A Run BUTTON is a stupid idea, and another instance of MK having a button perform a function that easily could be performed with the control pad. Although I could at least see the purpose of a block button. Run button? None whatsoever. Just about every other fighting game with running does double-taps, but nooo, they had to be different.

Also, are you trying to say crashing even 10% of the time isn't significant? That's very significant.

What's the difference between Trilogy and UMK3?

Besides all of the bugs?

Well, seriously, the full list (I think):

-UMK3's hiddens are playable from the beginning, I think Human Smoke even gets his own slot.

-Noob Saibot and Rain are playable.

-Raiden is back, with his MKII sprite.

-Classic versions of Raiden, Kano, and Jax

-Johnny Cage returns, played by a new actor.

-Finishers for incomplete UMK3 fighters.

-Goro, Kintaro, Shao Kahn, and Motaro are playable.

-Aggression Meter (like the SNK Rage Gauge, kinda).

-Shao Kahn's Treasures can be picked from when you win (the fatalities demo is the best one)

-That Khameleon character (not a big deal)

Everytime I make it to Endurance on MKI I get beat. Maybe it's b/c I have the difficulty on Medium and I haven't played an MK style game in about 6 years. Because I used to be really good at this game.

Jump kick, jump kick, jump kick, sweep now and then, uppercut...that will work just about every time.

Once you get to Shang Tsung, you're set. If you can manage to avoid his Flaming Skulls, he's an utter puss, and he has almost no animation.

And then in MKII I was Reptile and I easily whomped ass throughout the tournament but Kintaro made me his bitch........a few thousand times(ok 4 times b/c you only get 4 continues) but still!

See the above "strategy" for MKI endurance matches.

There seems to be no way to block or get the hell out of the way when Kintaro does his freaking jump way up in the air and pound you into mush move. Jeez.........that was the one I always wanted to be. I was dissapointed that I could never be Kintaro. OR can you?

Oh and can anyone help me with my Babality/Friendship problem?

Kintaro has some cheap strats to beat him. For example, if you get him into the corner, you can just punch him repeatedly, and he'll block until he dies.

You can counter his jump attack by jumping backwards and throwing and air punch. Might take a little time to get used to.

Friendships/Babalities can only be done in the third round of the fight. You have to win without using punches up to that point. Kicks only.
