snuffbox Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Anyone here go to this thing before? Plan to this year? I think Ill be going if the lineups as good as I think it could be. The initial artist announcement for this summer's Bonnaroo Music Festival will be this Friday, February 13th. This announcement will include an initial lineup of artists as well as ticket on-sale information for the festival being held June 11-13, 2004. -bonnaroo.com Anybody have any personal choices for bands if this kinda thing interests you? me.. Eagles Moody Blues Buffalo Springfield Dickey Betts Eagle Eye Cherry Umphreys McGee Big Wu America Simon & Garfunkle Arlo Guthrie Moe.
Mole Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I really really really hope to go, but that all depends on my money situation. The Eagles won't be there; but that would be SO good if they were. String Cheese Dark Star Ben Harper Moe The Dead They will probably be there, and I'd love it so much if Strangefolk was there. I doubt they will though.
snuffbox Posted February 12, 2004 Author Report Posted February 12, 2004 Good choices Mole. With Dark Star and the Dead...itd be like seeing a Grateful Dead show two days in a row. Yea, I doubt the Eagles will end up playing, but its a better chance than my other choice of Buffalo Springfield. At least the Eagles have been touring lately; Buffalo Springfield hasnt played together since 69 and would require the oft-rumored Stills/Young/etc reunion rumors to finally actually happen.
C Dubya 04 Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I've seen Strangefolk a few times and really enjoyed them. Didn't know they were still around though. I'd be pushing for anything involving Warren Haynes so Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule, Phil Lesh & Friends and The Dead would all be great. Also I'm down with all the bands mentioned, but would add The Disco Biscuits, Jack Johnson, Widespread, Leftover Salmon and P Funk (for the fun of it).
Jingus Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I've wanted to go to this thing for the past couple of years now, living in Nashville just a stone's throw away and all, but have just never gotten around to it. A warning to straight-edge types: from what some people have told me, this event tends to be so drug-laden it makes Woodstock look like a rehab clinic.
snuffbox Posted February 12, 2004 Author Report Posted February 12, 2004 I would like to add the following two artists to my wishlist... Brian Wilson Rebecca Moore
C Dubya 04 Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 http://www.bonnaroo.com/swf-txt/base.html List of artists is up. Gov't Mule & the Dead. YESSSSS Primus, Trey, MMW, Soulive, Leftover Salmon, moe & Galatic. Looks like it will be great times.
snuffbox Posted February 13, 2004 Author Report Posted February 13, 2004 Great lineup...Dylan, Dead, Dave, Trey, Willie, Primus, Byrne, Wilco, SCI, Ani, Chris Robinson, Umphreys...wow, Ill be there
Mole Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 Yes, that is a great list. I haven't heard of half of the bands though. Ugh, I don't really like Dave though. MSNBC's headlines on the bottom of the channel said that Dylan, Nelson and Dave are headlining the festival. I'd think that The Dead is headlining it along with Trey. But those three are the more "mainstream" so they get the credit. I am surprised that Maroon5 will be there. Time to start saving up some money.

MSNBC's headlines on the bottom of the channel said that Dylan, Nelson and Dave are headlining the festival. I'd think that The Dead is headlining it along with Trey. Which dont you know?...I might be able to explain a lil Its a crazy lineup...They listed Dylan/Dave/Willie as headliners, you list Trey/Dead, and I would also add Primus and David Byrne. Thats in a 3 day event - 2 headliners each night, and theres like 60 other bands. By the way, Bonnaroo.com seems to be listing The Dead as the main headliner, ahead of Dylan and Dave Matthews.
Mole Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 Yeah I know Bonnaroo is listing them as headliners, but MSNBC listed Willie, Dylan and Dave as headliners.
snuffbox Posted February 21, 2004 Author Report Posted February 21, 2004 I bought my ticket this morning.
Henry Spencer Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Hmm. Half of these bands are brilliant, and half are god awful.
snuffbox Posted February 22, 2004 Author Report Posted February 22, 2004 Hmm. Half of these bands are brilliant, and half are god awful. Which are the 'god awful' bands?
Mole Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 Hmm. Half of these bands are brilliant, and half are god awful. Which are the 'god awful' bands? Dave.
Henry Spencer Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 The Good: Bob Dylan Willie Nelson David Byrne Wilco Primus Yo La Tengo My Morning Jacket Neko Case Grandaddy The rest looks to be sub-hippie shit.
The Amazing Rando Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 this event tends to be so drug-laden it makes Woodstock look like a rehab clinic. sorry to bring this back from the dead...but as my friend just now put it... "i'm gonna go down there and trip my balls off the whole time" ...he's such a fucking moron. Not for this, really...more overall.
Mole Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 There is a lot of drugs down there, but I want to go for the music.
snuffbox Posted March 7, 2004 Author Report Posted March 7, 2004 I dont think tripping around 90,000 people would be a very good idea....
Mole Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Some people love it, I have no idea why. I tripped once and hated it, so I will never again. One of my favorite things about going to shows is just seeing the people all fucked up.
snuffbox Posted March 9, 2004 Author Report Posted March 9, 2004 Ive purchased my ticket... Heres what Im most looking forward too- The Dead Dylan Primus Dave Matthews Trey Wilco David Byrne SCI Ani Moe. Govt Mule Damien Rice Leftover Salmon Chris Robinson Cut Chemist Umphreys Maroon 5 I guess there will be more bands added....
C Dubya 04 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 The Mule is the best thing going right now in music and put on one hell of a good show. With Warren in the Dead now, I think that they'll bring it too. Leftover Salmon is a very fun live act. I've seen them a couple of times and really had a blast. "Wake and Bake" & "Pasta on the Mountain" are two of my favorite live songs.
Mole Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Snuff, we gotta meet up while we are down there. I haven't gotten my ticket yet, but I will by mid-April. I'm looking forward too: Trey String Cheese The Dead Bob Dylan Willie Nelson moe Gov't Mule Primus I'll go see Dave and Ani, even though I don't really like them. And, is Maroon 5 the same Maroon 5 we hear on the radio all the time? If so, they don't seem like a band that would be at a Jam Band festival.
snuffbox Posted March 12, 2004 Author Report Posted March 12, 2004 And, is Maroon 5 the same Maroon 5 we hear on the radio all the time? If so, they don't seem like a band that would be at a Jam Band festival. Yes they are. Kings of Leon are there as well....much more alt-rock than jamband. Mole, if we can meet up amidst the 90000 other peoples, that would be cool.
Mole Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 I am sure we can figure something out Snuff. I still have to get my ticket, ha.
Mole Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Ten bucks says when I go to get mine, it sold out an hour before hand. I hope someone from my town will sell there ticket at the last minute for like $70.
BX Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 70$?!?!? Do you realize I paid $185 for my ticket? And besides, you can only buy tickets at the offical website.
snuffbox Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 I paid 185 as well... Ebay 'n shit will probably be even more expensive/not guranteed... and I think this thing sells out every year... Mole, you might wanna just buy from bonnaroo.com while you can.
Mole Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Yeah I know. A few years ago, tickets were going for $1000 on eBay.
